K, K Place, I really wanted to like you but, in the end, you were just (O)K. 

We'd read some things about how K Place was doing an AYCE Korean BBQ option. It's so rare in London that we thought we should definitely give it a try. We made a reservation for Friday night easily and they were flexible when we were running late. 

When we arrived, we headed down the stairs to the basement where the restaurant was. It isn't a huge place, with seating for about 30-40. Not all of the tables have grills, but the vast majority do. We were seated near the entrance and heard another group come in for karaoke and were directed out of the restaurant, so if you're looking for dinner and karaoke all in one - K Place could be a great option!

After having a look at the menu, we decided to go with Set B Buffet, which was described as 10 course buffet with unlimited meats (£28.99). They also have a Set C with unlimited meats and seafood for £33.99. Soon after ordering, the dishes started to arrive. Banchan arrived first with 4 dishes: kimchi, radish kimchi, beansprouts, and cucumbers(?!). Odd. The cucumbers weren't the usual pickled cucumbers (oijangajji) but just some slices of raw cucumber. Maybe they had just run out of their pickles for the day? But we would have preferred them not providing this super random banchan. All the banchan were OK, but a bit bland. 

Next came the egg roll, dakdoritang (chicken and potato spicy stew) and mackerel. Everything was fine, though the dakdoritang was a bit bland as was the egg roll. The mackerel was overcooked. The kimchi pancake was standard, not the best I've ever had but not the worst - pretty middle of the road. The steamed mussels was probably the highlight. Fresh and sweet, cooked well in their own juices and a sprinkling of green onion. 

We then received a platter of 9 different meats - it was easy to tell that these weren't the highest quality. Yes, I know I'm at an AYCE place but I've had great quality AYCE meat at Korean BBQ places (Looking at you, LA). Spicy pork, (fatty) chicken, pork belly, rib eye, chuck, etc. all super unmemorable and pretty bland. At least the service was good and our server came over to turn over the meats and cut them for us. They gave us a small platter of some vegetables to grill as well as lettuce to wrap the meat in. There was also a huge container of ssamjang, which I always slather into my lettuce wraps so that was a plus as well. We could have ordered more meat since we weren't stuffed but found it all just mediocre and decided that we didn't want the extra calories for such blah food. 

Sigh, I had high hopes but I think I'll just wait until I'm back in LA to have the real deal. Additionally, at this price point, I expected a bit more. Maybe due to it being in the City, they charge more? The hunt for good AYCE Korean BBQ in London continues.

I had never tried Korean barbecue before so I was excited to give this place a go. It's on the tastecard which is how I found it so you can get some money off your bill and if you select the 10 course set menu you really get enough food to be stuffed by the end.

As I found out, when you go for Korean barbecue you have the actual barbecue in the middle of your table so you can cook your own meat and veggies just like you want them. But before you get to that there is an array of delicious starters and sides that are put in your table, meats, fish, seafood, vegetables, rice and soups. 

Once you go through most of those, you meats of choice are brought out and the barbecue is turned heated up. You can then start cooking your steaks using the special wooden cutlery and cut them up with a pair or scissors. This way you can be sure you have everything as soon as it's done and nothing gets cold.

We decided to go with the set menu that offers 3 types of meat per person but if you really want to push your limits or have not eater for days there's an unlimited meat option too. If you pick that one, I salute you. 

Anyway, I definitely enjoyed everything I tried and look forward to going back soon. I recommend going there with a group as that would be great fun and you can order a greater variety of foods. Either way it's worth putting it in your schedule.

Basic Korean Restaurant. 

I don't understand why the Ratings for this place are so High? I came in thinking this was a value leading  restaurant. Maybe for lunch  it is, not for dinner. 

Dinner value proposition 1/5 expensive compared to North American Standards
Taste 3/5 nothing amazing  
Service 1.5/5 - complained about my salmon being raw the server said it was meant to me a little under on the medium rare side. Mine was just rare. (What happened to the customer is always right?) Waters were never refilled. 
Food quality 1/5 - was served a raw piece of salmon.

This is a really lovely place!!
I was little bit worried because there are not many reviews. It was a perfect choice for us. The service was super nice and food was goood!
I ordered set menu A and i do recommend this one. U can try lots of different menus. Maybe the meat might not be the best quality. Here meats are thin. But i loved it. Cheaper than central restaurants and better service.

Naru has been my long running fave Korean restaurant in central London for quite a number of years - whilst it's still good in a great location, I've found a new place to direct ppl for awesome Korean food.

We had a really early reservation because we had tickets to the RWC later that evening - got there right at opening around 5:30.  This place looks like a proper Korean BBQ place because they have the vents that suck the BBQ smoke from the table.  

We were tempted at the Buffet menus but given that it was quite early we decided on getting the kimchi jeon, spicy pork and fried chicken.  First they came out with banchan & kimchi - very few places in London offer this so a major plus as it reminds me of places in NY.  The kimchi jeon was really good - at first looked a bit small as only two pieces came out but there was a bit of a confusion between the lunch menu so we got the other half later on!  

The spicy pork was good - I much prefer the one at Naru but still quite good.  We asked them to cook it in the kitchen as it's not worth the effort to bbq at the table for 1 portion.  

The Korean fried chicken was probably the best I've had in London so far.  We wanted half and half and they were quite nice to offer the sauce on the side.  It was deliciously fried - comparing this to On the bab last week, we like this one a lot more.  

One funny thing to highlight is the plain rice.  I grew up with a mom who was quite fussy about white rice and this place... they do it quite well.  Fluffy and a bit on the sticky side.  

Lastly, in a typical Korean restaurant fashion, we received fruit salad at the end of our meal.  

We will definitely be back!

So when approaching this place, my initial thought was - random. You have to go down some very old carpeted stairs, and as part of the decor there is a weird graffiti murial on the wall with the music blasting really loudly. But I guess its part of the charm.

We pre-booked the 10 course tasting menu for 2 through Groupon and were not disappointed! We started with a Kimchi pancake followed by vegetable dumplings, tofu soup, chicken and potatoes, and a salad which had a nice sesame seed type dressing. We were then served a plate of raw meat and it transpired that we had to cook the meat on the grill which was interesting. The waiter turned the grill on for us and then splashed some sesame oil in and off we went!

Don't get me wrong, it was an enjoyable experience, however I guess I'm just really lazy and prefer to have my food cooked to me! Also there was a worry of whether the chicken and the pork were done, and then when we checked, we had to try and cut the meat apart with a pair of chopsticks. #long

The food overall was tasty and you definitely get your money's worth! I did enjoy the experience but I came out smelling of cooking - not cool. The service wasn't bad - we told them we didn't eat beef so they were more than happy to substitute the beef for chicken which was nice of them. I'm still unsure as to if I want to go back - perhaps if they got better ventilation then maybe!

A new gem in the City, K Place fills the Korean barbecue sized hole in my life that I didn't know I had. 

We had the 10 course buffet with unlimited meat. Every course was flavourful and fresh. Kimchi pancakes, mussels, omelette rolls with barbeque sauce... but this was all just a prelude to the star of the night - unlimited pork and beef, a hot plate and condiments aplenty.

The meat seemed of reasonably high quality, and while delicious, we couldn't handle anything close to taking advantage of the unlimited offer, though we did our best.

While it probably won't be a regular haunt, I think I'll be heading back to K Place before long.

So don't be alarmed by the gloomy entrance - trudge onwards and walk down into the restaurant because I promise you'll have a great time. 

The waiters are extremely friendly and very patient to explain the food and how Korean bbq works.

I got the vegetarian ramen and it is really delicioys. Great spot to go as a group and vegetarian friendly so it gets 4 stars from me!

Visiting the UK briefly, read some reviews on AYCE kbbq places and came upon the K place. The restaurant look promising with the grills in the table. Placed our order for several kinds of meats, after a 25-30 min wait we were told our order was already being cooked by the chiefs instead of ourselves. No big deal since the group was hungry. 

Once we got our food it was plated smaller than expected for a group order, once again no big deal since we were hungry and thought more would be coming out. We were given some complimentary vegetables for the order mix up which was just some lettuce and raw mushrooms that we can't cook since the grill was off. After we finished the plates we were told that was it for our order. We left the restaurant looking for another to fill the hunger.

Overall kinda disappointing since I was expecting the self-cook kbbq experience, and were charged for the AYCE price.

Worst Korean place I have ever been to not only in London, but also in the world. If I could, I would like to give them zero star. 
I travel often and love to eat Asian food and K place was the first meal since I got here. Read few reviews and I was hoping to like it.... 

Severs are all young, which is fine, and seems like they have ZERO idea what they are doing. We asked to order beers and they came back saying that they don't have them anymore. Asked them what they have and she gave me confused face and telling me her guess. Not cool. Orders Steamed egg (no flavor whatsoever), Shrimp fried rice (Rice is wet, no flavor), salt & pepper pork belly and marinated pork neck for BBQ. Nothing stands out and meat quality is so poor. Servers barely come check on us, and worst thing comes... Romain lettuce we got was so old, turning brown all over, and gosh.... there were bugs in it and obviously none of the chefs or cook care enough to make sure they use fresh vegetable or even train their team how to wash vegetables properly. I work hospitality industry and I could not believe what they gave us is ok and charge us money. I told our servers about it and she gave me horrified face, however none of the managers or chefs hit our table to at least check on us or apologize to us. No discount. Paid full amount of money and it was not cheap meal for 2. Over 50 pounds. Horrible service, food is unbelievably terrible. 
Not only I will never come back here, but I will tell all of my friends that this place is a joke and it's better to give 50 pounds to homeless people or something because obviously you are like throwing your money away.
