The Scottish National Museum is an incredible place to visit in Edinburgh! The fact that it’s free makes it even more amazing. The museum covers a wide range of topics, including history, science, technology, and culture – there’s truly something for everyone. You could easily spend hours here, if not the entire day, exploring the fascinating exhibits.
There are plenty of interactive and fun activities for both kids and adults, making it a fantastic spot for families. The displays are beautifully arranged, and the variety ensures you’re never bored. Without a doubt, one of the best places to spend your time in Edinburgh! This museum is incredible. I’ve been here a number of times and always find a new part of the museum to enjoy. I would recommend setting aside 4-5 hours if you wish to explore the museum properly. There are some great interactive exhibitions which are perfect for families. The blend of modern architecture and the Victorian ironwork makes the building itself interesting to explore before you even consider the exhibits. There’s a wide range of cultural, historical and scientific exhibitions which means there’s a gallery that will appeal to everyone. There are paid and free exhibitions year round which makes the appeal great even for locals. The rooftop terrace has incredible views of the city, and really rounds out the experience. I can’t recommend this museum enough to both visitors and residents of the city….plus it’s free!

It is a huge and very impressive museum. The museum is completely free. Many interactive stands are very interesting for children. You need to plan at least 4-5 hours to just walk through the museum. You will definitely find something interesting for you, and you will get real pleasure. Do not forget to look at Edinburgh from the terrace on the roof of the museum

I took my daughter's (5 + 7) here on Saturday. We had a brilliant time and they loved seeing all the different exhibits. No admission although choice to make a donation to which I made. You also have the option to pay it cash or card. Lovely wee balcony cafe which was lovely and plenty for the kids to see and do

There is so much to do and so much to see. The sheer quantity of stuff is impressive. The museum has 2 sides, one to do with scotland and its history. I would recommend starting with the technology did as we did it in afternoon and it had a lot more people than in the morning. The museum is free, which is just incredible and promotes learning, which is always good.
