Gorgeous pub in a lovely location, perfect for breaking our Journey from Plymouth to Scotland. Just off the motorway and a beautiful spot with lovely dog walks along the lake. The room was lovely, clean and well equipped. Fabulous home cooked food. To find such a lovely dog friendly place was a real surprise, this was our first stay here but it certainly won't be the last. It really made our journey up to our holiday a wonderful experience.

Stayed between Christmas and New year and it was a perfect location for us.
The staff are welcoming  and helpful.  The first evening there were some staffing issues and we had to wait a little longer and some ingreients were missing from the mixed grill.  A compromise was arranged and after that evening all ran as expected.
Breakfast was disappointing unless you wanted a full English or variations of a full English.  There were no cereals, fruit, fruit juices or even water.  One young lad had to go without as he didn't drink tea or coffee.  We did manage to get a poached egg in place of a fried egg though!
The room was clean but the bed was too soft for me but that's just me.

Came here with the family for Boxing Day lunch. Waited 1 hour 15 for the food. 40 minutes in we were informed there was no tuna sandwich which was changed to chicken. The chicken sandwich never arrived. The steak was requested rare and was received well done. Requested a refund for these two meals. Mac and cheese of the lowest quality for 13 quid and very small! Chicken kebab tasted of fish. Serious problems with the kitchen! Very disappointed!

Such welcoming, friendly staff! We came back for lunch with the kids and dog twice in a row! The food is delicious. The beer garden and castle play area is great for keeping the kiddies happy. Thankyou for your hospitality 😁

My favourite pub in Pooley - the staff are always super pleasant and friendly and make you feel very welcome. Food is superb (try the pizzas), the beer is top notch, and very reasonably priced (less than a fiver for a pint of Cumberland ale - expect to pay more than that in the Lakes). The garden is a real sun trap too and it's very easy to while away a sunny afternoon there. Highly recommended!
