new boulangerie alert, olivier's café just opened about three weeks ago on hornby street near the wedgewood hotel, and it's already proving to be popular hangout. an immigrant family business rooted in french tradition, this spot is the family's dream brought to life. the café's design is cozy and charming, blending warmth and personality with a clean, modern feel. the counter area features patterned black and white tiles, a sleek espresso machine setup, and small thoughtful details like neatly arranged pour over kettles and sauces. above, a display screen shares their story with a nostalgic "where we began" image, a lovely nod to their roots and family history. the seating area continues that sense of warmth, with soft sage green wall paneling, warm wood tables and bench seating, and framed prints and family photos that line the walls. natural light streams in through the large front windows, brightening the polished grey floors and creating an inviting space that works just as well for lingering with a pastry as it does for catching up with a friend or getting some work done. the baristas are friendly and approachable. i had the matcha with oat milk, and it was hand whisked. my matcha latte had more ice than expected, refreshing but the matcha was definitely on the weaker side. note: they've got a rewards program if you plan to come back...and chances are you will.
