# Thai Box on Truck – Authentic Thai Food Truck in Vancouver
Thai Box on Truck is a popular food truck located at Cambie Street & W8th Avenue, Vancouver, offering authentic Thai cuisine. The food truck is always parked outside Joyce station in the late afternoon but only starts selling from 5 or 530 pm onwards. As I finished work early and usually passed by before 5 pm, I didn't get the chance to try the food until recently. There was a short line of people waiting for the food so I guessed this was popular in the neighborhood. I ordered the basil chicken ($16.95) medium spice. The portion was huge and smelled really good. There was no fried egg as shown on the picture. I was told the fried egg was an additional order for $2.50. My mistake as I just looked at the picture and didn't read the description. Quite misleading in that case. It was not spicy at all at medium spice. It was very salty. I was quite disappointed with the dish. Maybe other dishes like the curry and pad see siew would be better? That seemed to be what others were ordering. They do not offer beef as a protein option here. Only chicken, pork, tofu and shrimp. At that price point, I'll rather go to my Thai restaurant where I know the basil chicken dish (pad kra pow) will taste good.

Have been back for several more lunches and wow - Thai box on Truck really delivers! They are a little unpredictable with their schedule so don't bank on them being in the same space, or even there at all every Monday/Weds. When they are though, it is a special treat in my book, and the best Thai food money can buy for many blocks in any direction!! I've stuck with the Basil Chicken and would highly recommend it. A few times it has come out a bit spicier than I would have liked, but you can always request it to be less spicy. Thanks TBOT! :)

Thai Box on Truck is usually parked on Cambie. I work downtown and so there is no way for me to get a chance to try their food. To keep things simple they only offers 4 items on their menu: Pad Thai, Basil chicken, red curry and cashew chicken. Chicken dishes are $12 and prawn dishes $15. You can pick your spicy level 1 to 5. Thai Box on Truck came to the Fridays on Front event. So I ordered the Chicken Basil one star spicy meaning mild. This food truck was super busy that I waited 20 mins later after I have ordered to get my food. The basil chicken was super spicy even with level 1 spicy level. It was lacking. The portion size looked huge and there were quite a bit of chicken but the flavor wasn't there. I have had better basil chicken in the past. The dish didn't have a strong basil flavor to it. Was a bit disappointed. Don't order their thai coffee, it tasted very weird with too much evaporated milk and a bit too sweet. The evaporated milk over powered the coffee flavor. The food was somewhat disappointing.

Finally got the chance to try out this truck the other day when it was parked outside of Joyce skytrain station. I got a chicken pad thai ($13) but the cashier charged me $14, make sure to check just in case next time before you paid like I did. There was a hawker who cooked the noodles in a wok and the cashier would add the finishing garnishes such as bean sprouts, lime, shredded carrots and peanuts. For anyone who has allergies or is a vegan/vegetarian, I warn you to be careful because there is cross contamination on the wok. I have a strong shrimp allergy and when I ate my chicken pad thai I got a reaction right away. Onto the pad thai - it was a big portion and was still piping hot 20 minutes later when I ate it. There were lots of noodles, meats and veggies but I didn't like the fact that they added cabbage, the cabbage tasted weird and bitter. The tamarind pad thai sauce they also used was weirdly a bit too sweet which I wasn't a fan of. Also, because they fry it on a hot wok, you will find yourself encountering tiny little pieces of hard burnt black char that you will have to spit out which is very frustrating. I'm glad that I was able to try the truck so I no longer have the curiousity, I just am not a fan.

Having been to Thailand and trying the real Thai food, this truck does the best. I like to say that I'm particular about Pad Thai and Pad See Ew after experiencing the best in Thailand, and they do the job so well. Who cares about others nitpicking about small things but if you want real thai food, and all you care about the flavor, authenticity and good portion, this is a truck to go to. I used to be a Super Thai Food truck fan but their portions are smaller but they taste great as well. The Thai Box on Truck owner is so nice and his wife works hard in the kitchen. They deserve all the praise and support from the locals. Sometimes I'm reading other people's negative posting, I feel like they are missing the big picture. It's not easy to run the food truck business and I know they are doing their best in general. Remember, they don't change the flavor to match the western style. They make it authentic and everyone's tastes are subjective.

I wouldn't recommend this place. You're getting the wait time, portion size and price of a restaurant and the food quality of a food truck - worst of both worlds. There were somewhat large chunks of uncooked green onion in my food, and there was something definitely off with the peanuts off to the side - some of the pieces were black, and they tasted stale, not crunchy at all. I'm feeling a stomachache. Not worth the exorbitant price at all.

We were Extremely happy with this place! Visiting Vancouver from Ottawa we finished one of our epic sightseeing trips and then craved badly for Asian food. As we got off the sky train by the Joyce station, this truck was sitting there staring at us, and we went for it ~ And I'm so happy we did! Not only was the couple extremely friendly and personable, but yes indeed the food was Absolutely succulent and satisfying. This is the authentic real deal and if we happen to stumble across them again in our travels we'll gladly return. Try them out! Well done !

I ordered Cashew Chicken on Wed., May 19, 2021 at 5:38pm. I received my order at 6:12pm.....a wait time of 34 minutes for any food truck is not reasonable at all. The white rice was unbelievably mushy. It had been cooking in the rice cooker for far too long - with too much water. The Cashew Chicken contained 2 cashew nuts - yes 2, I couldn't believe it either. It also contained, one piece each of green and red peppers and lots and lots of sliced carrots!!! The quantity of chicken in the dish was definitely enough, but the overall taste was just "okay". Food truck owners...take note. If you put your heart and soul into your product, Vancouverites will taste your passion and you will succeed. A half-assed approach to the quality of your product will solicit responses like mine. You know when you're putting poor quality food on a plate. Why do that? Two cashew nuts in Cashew Chicken, for $13 bucks, c'mon, that's ridiculous. I will never return to Thai Box on Truck- it just wouldn't be fair to all the other food truck owners that slog away to make consistently fabulous quality product. Thai Box, you had one chance to hook me - you blew it.

note: They move the truck near the Lasalle College during lunch time and near Joyce station during dinner time. The thai food from here is very delicious and addictive to the extent that I always end up getting my food from here even when I wasn't planning to. It's too tempting! Everything here is good. Portion is big, lots of ingredients and price is reasonable. My favourite is Pad Thai with Prawn. You can get without prawn but I definitely recommend with prawns.They are big and fresh! I also like their Tom Kha Gai (sometimes available) Very addictive!
