I really enjoyed the Thunderbird drink and husband enjoyed the beers on tap. Friendly servers. Handsome young server remembered us from our previous visit and was so sweet asking us about our day! There is a kitchen but we never had a chance to try their food. There is a second floor perch seating area that was very inviting. Lots of TV's to watch sports. A very reasonable, friendly and relaxed place to get happy!

Stopped in at the good ol' Beaver again, even though I'm a local. As good as ever. In this crazy over-inflated economy where people have all kinds of reasons not to spend money, it's nice that a place can stay down-to-earth and in-reach. And can someone figure out the "Reviews not currently recommended" feature on Yelp?? I just saw that of the 24 not-recommended reviews here there are MANY that are 5- and 4- stars where people say they had an excellent time. What up??

This is strictly a review on the food. It sucks, don't order any food from here. Even the fries don't taste good, how can you mess up fries? I ordered peperoni flatbread pizza for happy hour. The good thing was that it was cheap, the bad thing was everything. The bread got overloaded with an insane amount of cheese. When there is that much cheese on a bread it becomes so thick and disgusting. I also saw my other friends order things that I would not eat. The spaghetti was incredibly plain. The amount of effort in the food here is poor. Moral of the story: don't order food here, thank me later. Bar here is completely fine, drinks are fairly priced, a standard hostel bar.

Huge shout out to Jamie our server from Glasgow, Scotland who made mine and my friend's experience at The Beaver a 5-star experience. I helped my friend set up his place for NYE festivities and we had some time to kill before people started showing up, so we barhopped around Granville for about an hour. We came in, paid the $5 cover, and went upstairs to grab a seat. As we sat down, our friends called us telling us that they were already at the apartment. Since we had already paid our $5 cover, we were determined to make the most of it and so when Jamie came over to take our order we told him we needed to get out of here really quick and ordered 2 tequila shots, 2 beers and 2 gin and tonics. He said not to worry and within 3 minutes took our order, grabbed them from the bar, and was hustling up the stairs to drop them off to us. No joke, he was determined to make sure we got those drinks in a very short amount of time. We were impressed. Our visit was quick, efficient, and very fun. I'd definitely love to come back here though because since it's a hostel bar, the vibe is fun, the drinks are cheap, and there are always fun activities going on throughout the week. Plus, there are always fun international travellers hanging around looking to meet people.

This place looks so cool, it's has a dive bar vibe to it which I like. We got seated very quickly, then our waitress took us upstairs to a table and handed us the drink menu. We decide to get some pink lemonade which was recommended from our waitress. Pink Lemonade: 1/5 $8.25 (US DOLLARS $6.15) Made with Peach Vodka, Fresh Lime and Pink Lemonade. If you took one look at the pictures of the drinks that we order, you can tell that our drink was very watered down. It was so nasty that none of us could finish it. It tasted like water mix with vodka. Couldn't taste any lime, pink lemonade or the peach vodka. It was not worth $8.25 ($6.15 US DOLLARS)! The drinks are crazy cheap here, but there's a good reason. The drinks aren't very good, none of us enjoy any of the drinks we order. If it's too good to be true then most likely it is. Most of their beer on tap, cocktails, sangria and house spirits can be purchased by a glass (2 oz or 3.5 oz) or a pitcher (6 oz or 14oz) Service Our waitress completely forgot about us! We stay less then 30 minutes and just left... Cool bar, but sucky service and weak drinks!

The Beaver is the kind of establishment where total random strangers become family at the end of the night. This is how I remember bars in Sydney, Australia and what do you know.. The Beaver is an Aussie bar! How Aussie? Very Aussie! Everyone who stays at Samesun Backpacker is either Aussie or Aussie so it's only natural to attach an Aussie bar to the hostel. Every host, bartender and server are beyond exceptional with the level of service. The moment you walk in, you're treated like a member of the family and not just some schmuck off the street to take money from. The rest of Vancouver should come here and take notes because THIS IS HOW YOU SHOULD TREAT A CUSTOMER! I'd give this place 10-stars if possible.. they just need a dancefloor and this place would be perfect!

The Beaver is an groovy little restaurant underneath one of the biggest international backpackers in vancouver. This means that the food has a slight international flavour and the atmosphere of the restaurant is continually changing. It's a great place to mingle and meet new people from around the world. The food has an apparent international flavour which has something for all diets, vegetarians included. Burger patties are made in house which give them a unique homestyle flavour. A selection of great salads (which you can add extras too), massive helping of nachos with salsa made in house for those a little peckish and delicious BBQ lamb sandwich to make your mouth water. Not for those on a budget the cheap $5 dinner specials that change daily. All of this is of course matched with a fully loaded bar with a great selection of local and imported beers (cheap pitches on house beer is great value), spirits and wine. Friendly bar staff and hostess's have great knowledge of their craft and always have a great suggestion of a drink to accompany your meal. Check out the nightly drink specials, something for eveyone.

I was staying at the Samesun hostel attached to this bar, so I figured I should check it out. But the service is horrendous. I don't know if this is typical for Australian bars but it was completely unexpected.
