# The Golden Horn Turkish Bakery & Cafe – Authentic Turkish pastries, cozy waterfront café, Vancouver’s hidden gem

The Golden Horn Turkish Bakery & Cafe is a charming eatery located at 1055 Canada Place, Unit 40, Vancouver. This cozy café specializes in authentic Turkish pastries, particularly baklava, and offers a delightful selection of coffee and tea. Established to bring a taste of Turkey to Vancouver, it has quickly become a favorite among locals and tourists alike. The café's inviting atmosphere, combined with its prime location facing Burrard Inlet, provides a perfect backdrop for enjoying delicious treats. Walking along the waterfront after dinner. Didn't have dessert at the restaurant (Cactus Club - which was very good), because I thought I was full, then we came across The Golden Horn, and I quickly changed my mind. It's a small shop that specializes in Baklava and other Turkish pastries. (although when we got there, there was only Baklava in the case.). Decided a couple of Baklava pieces, one chocolate and the other hazelnut. I had never tried a chocolate Baklava, so I was very intrigued. The staff person was friendly and helpful. Even offered to give a bag to carry both the baklava and the leftover food from the restaurant. Took them back to our hotel across the street and ate them in the room. I was a little disappointed in the chocolate one. It was good, but a little dry for my tastes. The hazelnut was very good, but the layers came apart when eating it. (not fresh?). A good spot, but not some place that we would return to.

We came here for some light snacks and desserts with coffee and tea. It is a tiny place with just 3-4 tables inside and a couple of tables outside. It faces the burrard inlet so you can get a water view if sitting outside. There sell many types of baklava and we tried most of it. My favorite was still the traditional pistachio. The chocolate was quite sweet. I also had a chicken and cheese burek. That was pretty tasty. My friend liked the Turkish tea. Turkish coffee was also on the menu. I had the cappuccino which was really good. Smooth coffee. I just disliked the fact it was served in a paper cup despite us dining in. So we were also charged the cup fee. Again, the fee is not helping to save the environment by reducing waste when shop owners are serving drinks in paper/plastic cups.

I'm surprised that this place isn't rated higher because I thought it was fantastic. Although the look of the shop is pretty utilitarian and it's in a location where I'd kind of expect to find tourist traps, the food was legit. I got a Mediterranean borek, a slice of kadayif, and an ayran. The borek was surprisingly substantial - they used a lot of filling and it was quite dense. Super tasty, and I liked the contrast of the densely packed filling with the flaky pastry. Probably one of the best savoury pastries I've ever eaten! They have a few different vegetarian variations of borek and now I want to try them all. I also enjoyed the kadayif even more than I expected to. The shredded fillo was still flaky and fluffy which showed it must have been pretty fresh. It wasn't sickly sweet or sticky as Middle Eastern desserts of lower quality can often be. And the ayran was great! The cup it was served in didn't look big, but it was thick and strong, so it ended up being plenty. Again, there's not much atmosphere to speak of inside the shop, but the location is prime and you can get a great view of the harbour if you sit outside. The two guys working were really nice. And I also really appreciate that they have reusable tableware for dine-in, which I wasn't expecting given how small the place is.

Baked goods at this turkish bakery are fresh and so delicious. I even liked the presentation of food and drinks especially Turkish coffee. Definitely they need to have more seating . They also need one more person to serve the tables and clean after as one man was running the show. Its located at a very prime ocean facing property but too far from the ocean. You can enjoy the views of north vancouver on a sunny day along with tourist and others passing by. Both sweet and savoury items are available

Expired baklava and kadayif it has weird taste. I can give 0 points out of 100. I don't even have to be from Turkey to understand that it's so bad.

I truly don't understand the bad reviews for this place...I thought it was fantastic! I stumbled upon it while on a walk along the inlet, and I love baklava, so I had to pop in. I got a slice of kadayif (which I'd never had before), and a few different slices of different flavors of baklava. They were all delicious, and I even managed to stop myself from eating them all so I could share some with my family when I got home. The service was quick and friendly. Do yourself a favor and get a snack to go from here, and then find a bench and take in the view while you enjoy your Turkish treats.

I got a pistachio and pecan baklava to go from The Golden Horn and although they were not bad, I felt it was extremely pricey for just a few bites. Although granted macarons are priced quite similar but I didn't have the same satisfaction when I bit into these baklavas. Not bad but still on the lookout for some outstanding baklavas in Vancouver.

We found this cozy little spot to wait for our cruise boarding time and it was just perfect. A nice, quiet place to enjoy lunch away from the mayhem at the terminal. The food and coffee were just what we were looking for.
