Carlino was the perfect spot for our Sunday brunch. The bruschetta was uniquely delicious, and the spinach pasta with pesto, nuts, and veggies was bursting with flavor. I am genuinely perplexed by the high ratings and Michelin recognition. We spent $250, and neither the food nor the service came close to justifying the cost.

My husband booked this restaurant for my birthday dinner with seven friends and family. Given the reviews, the menu, and the location, I was excited—but the experience was deeply disappointing.

To start, we were seated right by the entrance, despite the restaurant being nearly empty on a Tuesday night. With only two or three other tables occupied, we expected attentive service, yet it was painfully slow. While our waitress was friendly, she made several frustrating mistakes—soft drinks arrived after some guests had finished eating, and despite knowing about my surprise birthday cake, she handed out dessert menus, forcing my family to remind her and completely ruining the moment.

Then came the food—an absolute letdown. Two main dishes (beef cheeks and duck) were unavailable, and no alternatives were offered. For a restaurant of this caliber, it’s unacceptable not to inform a large party in advance, especially when many of us had reviewed the menu beforehand. The remaining options were uninspired, and the execution was subpar.

The “pesto pasta” was misleading—it was simply green-colored pasta in butter sauce, with no actual pesto as expected. The menu should clarify that the pesto is in the pasta dough, not in the sauce.

The ragu was shockingly dry, lacking both sauce and meat, and the pasta was severely undercooked to the point of being inedible.

My veal-stuffed pasta was minuscule, with barely any filling.

My husband’s steak was one-third inedible fat that wasn’t rendered properly.

To top it off, they served a soup spoon with dessert. At this point, it felt like a joke.

Portions were exceptionally small, and while I understand fine dining focuses on quality over quantity, every dish should be well-executed. Instead, we left unsatisfied and had to stop at Mcdonalds on the way home.

This experience was far below the standard expected from a Michelin-rated restaurant. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend it and would not return.

I can see plain as day how this place would have a Michelin star. We went for the chef's choice meal and everything was absolutely delicious! When the foccacia appetizer (I asked for seconds) we had the lobster and squid ink pasta, the ragu and lamb chops.

The lamb chops absolutely blew me away, I never knew you could make meat taste so savory and delicious... and honestly I'm not much of a foodie!

The service was phenomenal as well, nothing short of what we would expect. And the venue was clean, perfectly lit and well decorated.

Great fine dining pick for any special occasion.

lunch dining experience was a wonderful 10/10. service was efficient, friendly, and welcoming. the whole vibe and atmosphere of this restaurant was amazing. i am so obsessed with the restaurant’s interior and the space.  and of course, the food was excellent. we particularly love the beef carpaccio and the foccacia. overall, awesome experience and glad we ended here for our random Valentines lunch date.  we’ll be back soon!

This place is mediocre at BEST. The food isn't terrible but nothing was particularly good either. Some items I'd say erred on the bad side of the spectrum.

There was barely any other tables in the restaurant on a Tuesday night and the service was incredibly slow. We waited for so long for our food and when it finally came, it was cold. My ragu was really dry and the pasta was so hard that some pieces felt under cooked. I ended up only eating half because I was hungry from the wait, and packed the rest home to cook it again.

The fries tasted stale with a chewy yet powdery texture. And homemade foccacia was just not good, fried cheese just tasted like a grease pool.

Service was just ok. Our server was nice, but for a restaurant with almost no customers, we didn't find her that attentive at all. We had a birthday cake, which restaurants normally bring out after mains get cleared off the table, but she gave us dessert menus instead and we had to ask for the cake, which ruins the surprise for the birthday girl. Also they gave us soup spoons to eat the cake, which was strange.

There was also a mandatory 20% service charge slapped on top since we had a party of 8, but it just leaves a bad taste when the food, service, speed of service was so bad overall.

Vid vår återkomst till Vancouver varje år har vi vår första middag på Carlino. Utrymmet är ganska vacker och välskött. Vi var mycket imponerade över att vår server, Sarah, kom ihåg våra namn från förra årets besök. Hon tränade en nyanställd, Marcus, och vi vet att han kommer att bli vältränad. Sarah har stor kunskap om menyn och styr dig mot alternativ utifrån vad du söker. Portionsstorlekarna är generösa så tänk på det när du beställer. Rubinöringen var två 8 oz portioner så IT räckte till två personer. Vi njöt också verkligen av salladen med pocherade päron.

Otrolig mat och allt var helt perfekt och bortom utsökt! Vi har haft allt till MAX! Servicen var SUPERB/atmosfären är förtjusande och atmosfären är lugn och ro! Vi har haft det oerhört och det var upptagen men maten var i tid och färsk och varm! Hela upplevelsen kunde inte vara bättre!

Vi stannade till vid Carlito’s för avhämtning på vår första kväll i Vancouver. Det är tvärs över gatan från vårt hotell, Paradoxen, och vi var för trötta från att resa för att gå ut för en sitt - ner måltid. Maten var klar snabbt och det var utsökt. Min fru hade gnocchin, som var rik men mumsig. Jag åt rigatoni med köttfärssås. Så bra! Jag önskar att jag hade lite nu. Vi åt också grillad sparris, som också var god. Och personalen var mycket trevlig. Önskar vi hade tid att sitta och njuta av atmosfären, men vi njöt verkligen av maten.

Det här stället är fantastiskt. Du välkomnas av en fantastisk och mysig interiör från första stunden inuti. Vår server, Sarah, var mycket glad och pratsam, och vi hade en utmärkt chatt med några användbara insikter. Måltiden — oh man — överträffade våra förväntningar. Pasta Bigoli al Nero rekommenderas starkt; det är nog min nya favoriträtt nu. Det finns också ett stort urval av drycker. Vi firade vår lilla årsdag här och fick särskild uppmärksamhet tillsammans med små, omtänksamma gåvor. Vi kommer definitivt tillbaka snart!

Underbar första restaurang i Vancouver. Jag var tvungen att gå upp extremt tidigt och resa hela dagen så jag var trött när jag kom. Varje enskild personal person var varm och vänlig som fick mig att slappna av och uppskatta kvällen. Barmannen Eduardo styrde mig till en stor drink på menyn. Laurent vet allt om vinerna och parade dem mycket väl med kockens valmeny. Vi bad om BC viner och alla av dem var superb. Francesca och Sarah var våra servrar och såg till att varje kurs var aktuell. Jag berättade för Julian, chefen vilket bra jobb de hade gjort för att utbilda personalen att vara kunnig och engagerande. All mat var fantastisk. Utstickarna var bläckfiskpastan, broccolini och endive och lammkotletterna. Så glad att vi kunde åka tillbaka dit på denna resa.

Carlino är en utmärkt italiensk / medelhavsrestaurang nära West End. Sara vår server och sommelier Lorenz var FANTASTISK, och personalen överlag var mycket stark. Julian chefen driver en solid verksamhet. Vi älskade upplevelsen totalt, och vi kommer att vara tillbaka när vi återvänder till staden!

Till skillnad från oss, vi bara slumpmässigt valde denna plats för sn tidig kvällsmåltid. Vilket bra val! Vi åt bara en pastarätt var, en med lammragu och en med pesto. Båda var utmärkta och hade en trevlig, komplex, tillfredsställande smak. Goid portionsstorlek också. Menyn är ganska begränsad men precis tillräckligt val för de flesta. Som med vissa andra högre italienska restauranger, vi hittade pastan lite för Al dente. En liten fråga. Servicen var också utmärkt, mycket vänlig. Skulle ha älskat att stanna längre men vi hade en tidsbegränsning.
