A Charming Spot with Potential!

This quaint restaurant, tucked behind an old church (now a community center), offers a unique dining experience with a focus on quality ingredients, thoughtful cuisine, excellent service, and a warm, inviting atmosphere.

I reserved a bar seat for one, but the staff kindly offered me an available table instead. However, I opted to stay at the bar, enjoying the view of the kitchen. The bar seating includes under-table hooks for bags, a thoughtful touch.

The seasonal menu is priced at $85CAD, includes two starters, one main, and one dessert. Add-ons oysters (+4$) and wine pairing (+56$ for four half glasses) are also available.

The starters featured a good portion and impressive variety of fresh greens, including Brussels sprouts, shallots, radicchio, and spinach. The quality and freshness of the ingredients were evident and much appreciated.

For the main, I had the Guinea Hen with Raspberry sauce. The dish was beautifully executed, the meat was tender and juicy, the skin perfectly crispy, and the flavors were well-balanced. The red wine pairing complemented the raspberry sauce nicely, enhancing the dish's complexity.

Unfortunately, the starters were overly salty. When I informed my server, they adjusted the seasoning for my main course, which turned out perfectly. Despite the kitchen tasting each dish before serving, the saltiness accumulates as customers finish their plates, making it difficult to enjoy consecutive dishes. I could hardly enjoy my second starter after finishing the first.

Dessert was an interesting combination of cheese and sweet potato, but the unexpected spiciness of the sweet potato was surprising. While I can tolerate spice, the level is certain too intense for many others. The menu or server should have mentioned this detail beforehand.

Service was attentive after the initial delay, water wasn’t served, and no one approached me for the first ten minutes. Additionally, the restroom door was left open for some time, which detracted slightly from the otherwise cozy ambiance.

The location may be tricky to find, it's directly behind the church facade.

Overall, while there were minor missteps, the quality ingredients, innovative dishes, and accommodating service made for a pleasant evening. I look forward to returning to explore a different seasonal menu.

There is a reason this restaurant is so highly rated. It’s not because the portions are huge or the menu is robust… it’s because of the experience and the taste of the food. Each plate on the tasting menu was presented with care and prepared to perfection. Delicious breads to enjoy throughout the meal. We were so impressed with everything about our evening at Candide. The quality of food, knowledge of the staff, wine selection, and setting were all perfect.

What an amazing restaurant. Tasting menu has a lot of quality and seasonal ingredients. The highlights of the meal for me were the crab and carrot dish as well as the mushroom oat porridge. I visited Montreal during the snow crab season, so the crab was out of this world. The porridge was savory and hearty. Service was attentive and friendly. The waitresses were so nice and sweet. One of the waitresses was also in charge of making cocktails, and the drink that I got was delicious. The restaurant is in the back of an old church and has a very unique vibe.

Vilken uppfriskande överraskning! Jag var där på egen hand och åt i baren mot köket. Platsen ser ut som en blandning mellan en bistrot och en camping för foodies (det finns blommor överallt och de använder träkol för de flesta av sina rätter). Deras koncept är ganska unikt eftersom de endast serverar lokalt producerade ingredienser. Sedan de öppnade hade de några av de mest positiva och några av de mest negativa recensionerna där ute så jag var väldigt nyfiken på att prova det själv. Tja, allt jag kan säga är att detta skulle bli min go to place om jag fortfarande bodde i Montreal. Den fasta menyn är rolig och prisvärd. Personalen är superslapp och klart passionerad för vad de gör. Vinlistan har massor av riktigt intressanta viner från Quebec (ganska fantastiskt att se hur långt dessa har kommit de senaste 10 - 15 åren! ) Nu åkte jag såklart i slutet av sommaren där Montreals marknader är fulla av färska råvaror och jag frågade kocken och ägaren hur de klarar av att fungera under den långa och VÄLDIGT kalla vintern där uppe.... Han tog mig till deras källare och visade mig alla behållare som de förbereder för vintern och förklarade alla olika tekniker de använder för att bevara grönsaker och frukt. Jag längtar efter att besöka igen på vintern för att prova det själv! Jag hade någorlunda låga förväntningar går in (på grund av de tidigare recensionerna) men lämnade platsen med en stor "coup de coeur" ! ! Candide är ett perfekt exempel på vad som är unikt, roligt och uppfinningsrikt i Montreals matscen!

Trevlig restaurang belägen i en gammal kyrka hus strax utanför Notre - Dame. Inredningen är verkligen trevligt med en stor vibe. Maten var otrolig, gjord av färska ingredienser och mycket smakrik. Trevligt urval av viner och öl från provinsen. Bra Service. Rättvisa priser för kvalitet.

Vi ville ha en speciell avsmakningsmeny måltid under vår Montreal semester, och denna plats var det perfekta valet. Vi valde att göra vinparningen och var väldigt glada att vi gjorde det! Sommelieren gav massor av information om de underbart parade vinerna. Rätterna var spektakulära; våra favoriter var ärtor i en musselbuljong med hummersås och en dessert av jordgubbar, rabarbergelato och lönnsmulor. Jag önskade att jag bodde närmare så att jag kunde gå varje säsong och uppleva deras menyer. Rekommenderas starkt!

Riktigt intressant meny med säsongens och närproducerade råvaror. Smarta kombinationer av texturer och smaker, trevlig presentation och mycket välkomnande och kompetent personal. Det finns ett vinparningsalternativ (jag föredrar att plocka mina egna viner).

Min fästmö och jag gick på hennes födelsedag. Kunde inte vara nöjdare med vår måltid och erfarenhet. Hovmästaren frågade om vi skulle trivas vid bordet bredvid hans station eller föredra något mer isolerat. (Kommer från NY, detta var mer än bekväm nog som matsalen var rymlig och inte alltför högt ändå. ) Så glad att vi satt där eftersom hovmästaren inte bara var värd, han är också ägare och kock bakom menyn. Han gjorde vår perfekta måltid en perfekt kväll. Han var intressant och intresserad. Mer än villiga att prata med oss men också tillräckligt medveten för att ge oss utrymme att njuta av vår måltid. Maten var fenomenal. Jag skriver inte recensioner ofta men detta var så speciellt, jag känner mig tvungen. Disken var intressant och jag tänkte aldrig, "Jag kunde göra detta hemma. " Vi hade flera bra måltider i Montreal och ser fram emot att komma tillbaka dit (Place Carmine var också bra och Mondavie var utsökt och mycket roligt! Men Candide är den jag kommer att tänka på i veckor. ) Åh, och servitrispersonalen var förstklassig. Sommelier var intressant och informativ.

Möjligen den godaste middagen jag ätit i mitt liv - och definitivt den godaste jag ätit på senare tid. Enastående servicepersonal, härlig atmosfär och fantastisk hovmästare/ägare. Utmärkt valuta för pengarna också! Om jag bodde i Montreal skulle jag komma hit om och om igen.

Hade en helt underbar upplevelse på restaurang Candide igår kväll! Maten var utsökt, full av underbara smaker och vackert presenterad. Vinparningarna var klockrena, expertbeskrivna och löpte från Quebec till norra Tyskland till en fransk bourgogne. Vår server och sommelieren var förtjusande och klart stolta över vad de erbjuder. Detta var vårt första besök men kommer definitivt inte att vara vår sista. Montreal har många fina matställen. Den här borde definitivt vara med på allas lista!

Vi har haft vårt besök i Candide och fann personalen att vara charmiga och väl - informerade. Avsmakningsmenyn erbjöd bra värde och hög kvalitet. Jag gillade den lokalt - anskaffade, gård - till - plattan etos av platsen och avkopplande, gemytlig atmosfär. Stämningen här är inte kvav, vilket är att uppskatta. Min enda kommentar, och jag mår lite dåligt av att säga detta eftersom hennes kommentar om vinerna var utmärkt och njutbar, är att några av sommelierens parningsval vi tyckte var lite lacklyster. Vi skulle faktiskt ha föredragit uteslutande lokala vinval, vilket tycktes oss mer i linje med stämningen och identiteten på restaurangen själv. Ändå har vi haft vårt besök en hel del och jag kan rekommendera att besöka för gourmands i Montreal.

Jag vet inte ens var jag ska börja. Maten var så läcker! Smakerna var så djärva och intressanta och presentationerna var så genomtänkta. Tjänsten var verkligen oklanderlig. Varje gång en maträtt togs till oss fick vi höra exakt vad som fanns i det och föreslog hur vi skulle närma oss att äta den. Vinparringen var overklig. Sommaren här var så investerad i berättelsen om varje vin och tog sig tid att verkligen måla oss en bild av var det var ifrån och varför det fungerar med varje maträtt. En av rätterna behövde ändras för min äppelallergi och så valde hon ett annat vin för mig så att det fortfarande parade väl. Uppmärksamheten på detaljer hos Candide är bara galen. Medan en så liten sak älskade jag borden hade alla sina egna lådor av bestick för varje platta. Jag kom hit för min födelsedag och de fick det att känna sig riktigt speciellt med ett ljus och en extra dessertbit. Jag skulle komma tillbaka till Montreal bara för att äta här igen. En av mina favoritmål någonsin!

En fantastisk kulinarisk upplevelse. Personalen är kunnig om varje aspekt av måltiden, bordservice fantastiskt och ägaren / kocken som var på värdtjänst natten vi var där vägleddes oss på vår resa genom måltiden. Detta är ett måste när du är i Montreal. Vi kommer tillbaka.

Min son och hans fru tog mig dit för min födelsedag. Inom 30 minuter var platsen helt full så jag är säker på att du behöver bokning om du vill komma in.
