The Fox Goes Free serves up some excellent pub fare, in a cosy atmosphere. For your viewing pleasure, there are plenty of screens playing sports games. My previous review provides more detail. However, I want to add the the Fox continues to serve great food with friendly, helpful service. Our server, Devon, made helpful suggestions, didn't hesitate to make informed recommendations, and handled a very busy evening with confidence and good cheer. Service was excellent, as was the food! The Stuffed Yorkshire Pudding is simply the best! I also enjoyed the adorable fox photos and art throughout the pub. The Fox is a sister pub to Magwyers (in Ajax), another well-reviewed pub. While Magwyers is very popular and often full, the Fox Goes Free seems to be a bit off the beaten track, located in that West Pickering Turning Into Scarborough area. There is plenty of parking both in front and behind the pub. Set back from the street, with a spacious, heated patio in the back, it has a welcoming, almost cottage-like atmosphere. Mix that with some tasty fare and great service for the Fox's winning combination!

Dined in on patio for lunch with my hubbie, baby and friends (plus a dog). I didn't know what to expect to get food from a pub to be honest but their food pleasantly surprised me. My husband and I shared fish and chips and chili. Both dishes were fresh and tasty! Our server was very friendly. My friends' dog and my baby enjoyed hanging around on their spacious patio too.

So much for redeeming themselves! I went here last night for dinner and had my heart set on having Bangers 'n Mash only to find out that they have, yet again, removed it from their menu! Upon expressing my displeasure to our server, she advised that they now only have it occasionally as a special but that she would check with the kitchen to see if they would be able to prepare it for me (even though it was not listed as the special that evening) and they obliged. Now I'm not exactly sure what's happened over the course of time but this was the worst Bangers 'n Mash I have ever had! There was far too much gravy on the bangers, none on the mash and only a pittance of baked beans. To top it off, the bangers themselves were horrible and had no flavour at all. Apparently I will be on the search for a new favourite place for Bangers 'n Mash. Even thought the service was very good and they did agree to make the dish despite it not being on the menu that evening, I have to leave them at a 2-star for now because this dish was a disaster. So sad.

Wanted to add some photos from the inside of the pub. Its my first time being inside, and for being a pub, had a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere. It was rather empty, but that's because we came around noon. Our server, though we didn't get her name was very friendly and accommodating.. I got the pub poutine and my boyfriend got the extra spicy wings. Even though mine was a appetizer, cause I wasn't that hunger, but the portion was huge! Might as well been a main course. Though I do think they skimmed on the cheese curds and the gravy was a little thin for me. My boyfriend enjoyed his wings, and he loves this place, so will definitely be back.

Visited with a group of 6. Friendly service. Four people ordered wings and fries and two ordered ranch wraps and fries. Food took a long time to come and the pub was not very busy. Two people sent their wings away as they couldn't eat them, others did not finish their orders. Ranch wraps did not have any ranch on them but had something spicy instead. Not what we thought we were ordering. Waitress did take one off the bill. Fries were cold and anything fried was not good. Tasted like their oil was old and definitely needed to be changed. Not planning to return.

The food is usually decent but the service is consistently brutal. Regardless of the time of day or size of table, the service is always poor. My last visit (table of 8) was a very poor one - undercooked food, no drink refills, poor service. While the staff are friendly and the food is decent, the service is enough of a reason to go elsewhere.

We have been going to the Fox forever! We love the cozy atmosphere and the welcoming staff. The food is always freshly made and delicious. Try the chicken quesadilla...fabulous! Their wings are also huge and sooo tasty! Beer is always cold and the game is always on (whatever the season).

I have been going to the Fox since it opened back around 1995. It is a quaint little cottage of sorts in my mind that has a truly Irish/English feel to it. The staff are simply amazing and the crowd that attends are very lively and friendly. The Guiness is one of the best in the GTA bar none. Only concern I have is the food used to be standard pub fare prepared with quality and quantity in mind. In the past three years they have tried to go upscale in the dishes they serve and have failed. For example, a salad now contains leaves you might find on a tree. I miss the menu of old and they should admit their mistake and return it to the pub of choice that it once was for me.
