An incredibly FREE and well-preserved slice of Toronto’s history! I recently visited this museum for the first time. Although it is located in my neigbourhood and I often walk past it, I never bothered going inside before. I am glad I did this time. There is no entrance fee and the museum is filled with information and artifacts explaining the history of what is now know as North York and Willowdale. A guide was available to thoroughly explain the history of the house, as well as the neighbourhood, in an entertaining manner. It is not a large facility, and it only took about 45 minutes to fully tour the museum. But it was 45 minutes well spent.

Smashing IT!

One of Toronto's many historical houses preserved perfectly for that travel back into time experience.

The Gibson House is snuggled into between the metropolis of hussle, hustle & bustle, and the ever so sky rocketing condos in the area.

Built in 1851 marvel through tge house on your own or through a guided tour with one of the many very knowledgeable historians that work very hard to keep the the magic alive with these precious preserved in time houses in Toronto.

Enjoy the grounds, enjoy the house, and most of keep our history alive!

I recently facilitated a workshop at Gibson House Museum in their lower-level meeting room. I was greeted at the door by Madeline and Sam who offered to help bring in my materials for the workshop – much appreciated as it was just after a snowstorm. The room was set up as requested, was clean, comfortable and even had a sink. Madeline checked in with me a few times to make sure I was happy with the room set up and to see if any other help was needed. At the end of the session Sam and Madeline offered their help taking the supplies back to my car. I had a great experience, and I look forward to hosting future workshops at the Gibson House Museum.

Visited Gibson House Museum in North York and loved it! It's a cozy old farmhouse that gives you a peek into life in the 19th century. The staff are friendly and share interesting stories about the Gibson family. We got to see the beautiful gardens, It was so fun and different! If you're in the area and like history or just want a peaceful spot away from the city, this place is definitely worth a visit.

FREE museum right off North York Centre Station, complete with free visitor parking and even a complimentary personal guided tour courtesy of the City of Toronto. The historical gem is the oldest standing home in North York, set in the ~1830s and offering an intimate look into the life of the Gibson family. What made this experience five stars is our remarkable tour guide, a history buff with an encyclopedic knowledge of Toronto and Canada. His passion and wealth of knowledge could keep anyone engaged for hours. Even if history isn't your thing, I assure you it's an experience worth having. You can also explore independently, but I recommend the guided tours. We initially were going to pop in for 15 minutes for a spontaneous visit and ended up staying for what seems to be 45~ mins, I lost track of time. Check out this and the other free museum across Toronto!

We spontaneously came here on a Sunday afternoon and glad we did! It was free admission and they have tour guides to show you around the home (also free). It was very informative and way more substantial than exploring on your own. It makes you appreciate the house and the story behind it. We enjoyed our guide's enthusiasm and openness to answering questions. In fact, he encouraged it. I look forward to visiting the other historical homes in Toronto.

My father is a history enthusiast and, whilst growing up, my parents took me to visit many of Toronto's historical houses that operate as museums. Now, as a fully fledged adult, I visited Gibson House, on a whim, one cold, windy afternoon in early April 2022. Located in Willowdale, steps from Mel Lastman Square/ North York Centre subway station, Gibson House is the nineteenth century farm house of the Scottish immigrant, surveyor, farmer and politico David Gibson and his family. I booked an $8 ticket online and took the guided, yet interactive tour, with one other member of the public. The experience starts with the viewing of a short film about what land acknowledgements truly mean in the larger context of a colonial history. The tour itself distances itself from any past romanticism of the early Canadian "settlers" and is clearly attempting to incorporate a 360° view of the time period, through the dismantling of a largely British and male-dominated POV. Per the City of Toronto, "Gibson House recognizes the complex settler colonial history and, beginning in 2022, will be working with Indigenous partners and staff to tell this story through an Indigenous lens." The house itself is simple. It has been stripped of a lot of the genteel decor pictured in older reviews. There is some much needed repair to be done but I am certain that current budgets do not allow for it. The Gibson House is clearly in the midst of transition to become a museum that reflects a more encompassing history. I hope that this objective is fully realized and that the house can be preserved and utilized as a vehicle for this objective. My tour guide was friendly and informative. I got a lot out of my visit and I will continue to pursue my ongoing reeducation in the history of this land. I was very lucky that the other person on the tour with me was a professional historian in his own right and so I really received a 2-for-1 tour experience. Do not book a tour of Gibson House expecting period costumes and romanticized notions of a gentler time. Go and learn something unexpected while having your eyes widened and mind opened at the same time.

Entry was free. We arrived at 12:00pm on a Thursday and they had about 4 free parking spots on their driveway. It felt like we stepped back in time and enjoyed exploring the 2 floor house.

Thanks for Doors Open, I have a chance to visit Gibson House Museum without paying an admission but without any tours available during that 2 days. The "House" itself was built in 1851 is really well maintained and decorated with furniture and details of the time period. Walking through the rooms give visitors ideas of how the life over 150 years ago! There is limited free parking on the site. Finding the actual museum though is a little tricky as it is not really located directly on Yonge Street and surrounded by condominiums.

I really was impressed with the Gibson House WHAT IT IS The Gibson house is basically the house where the Gibson family resided. They lived in the Willowdale area. They had 7 children. The Father was a Land surveyer and married his cousin (I think 2nd cousin) TOURS They run tours at regular intervals during the day and depending on how many visitors show up. We were lucky enough to have a tour to ourselves (my family). The tour is about 45 minutes depending on how many questions you have for the tour guide. KID ZONE While people wait for tours, there is a kid zone and a mini gallery where kids can learn play with puzzles, weave yarn, draw pictures etc. The gallery is meant for adults where you can learn a little bit about the history of the Gibson Family. WHAT I LIKED 1. They had a free tasting of minced meat tarts, ginger bread cookies and apple cider. They made them fresh at the location and baked them using the heat from their wood fire.(authentic!) 2. I learned that christmas trees originated from Germany and was brought to england by kind albert (who was german) and then was widespread around the world. 3. the house was magnificient and the tour guide was very knowledgeable.
