Attended the Christmas market here yesterday in the secondary hall off the side entrance and the lighting was HORRIBLE.  I genuinely could not see what anyone was selling. At one point I had to take out my phone and use it as a flashlight to see one of the vendor's tables.  If I rented a venue and it was this dark, with no options for illumination, I would ask for a refund for venue location.  The upstairs was considerably worse than the main level. Everything was drenched in shadows at midday!

Worked here for a wedding a few weekends ago and had a great experience as a vendor! The space is quite unique (offering a number of different spaces guests can enjoy) and the staff were helpful.

There is an elevator for anyone needing special assistance that travels between three of the floors.

Attended the Jesse Gold event here and it was a fun night. The space is large and it was packed with people. That said, I was sweating the whole time and it felt like the AC wasn't really working (They need more of them or need to upgrade existing ones). Also, they only had two bars open: one with two bartenders and the other with just one, which really wasn't enough for the size of the crowd. They definitely need more bartenders for events like this. Other than that, everything else was great.

I have mixed feelings about this place. It's an old hall built in 1890 and they now host Candlelight Concerts. About the hall, it is VERY cold, we were freezing there despite wearing jackets. Plastic folding chairs they use for seating are of the cheapest kind and extremely uncomfortable, especially if you are a bit on the plus side. Now about the candlelight performance, well, for $55-$65 ticket price, you get an hour of listening to a mediocre quartet playing popular classics and watching dilettante "ballet dancers" who made the performance feel more like a farce. I am adding an extra star here as a credit to the musicians who continued playing despite the loud rock music coming from the bar next door. Tchaikovsky doesn't really go well when mixed with Megadeth... Will I ever go to Candlelight concerts? Certainly not, it is a rip off and a parody of the real ballet.

came here for a wrestling event and was blown away by this location, what was a running track, has now been turned into a multi-purpose venue, and really for a wrestling event, there is not a bad seat in the house. I say seat because that's the saying but it is standing room only. the event was really amazing to attend and I can't wait to come back, great neighborhood for food options if you come here as well. the only negative was because the building was so old, the entrance to the wrestling section is wide enough for one person so the line up to get in takes forever. parking options are on the streets, side streets, alley options, and some lots in the area. transit options are the 501 queen streetcar, and 63 ossington bus with a bit of a walk. cant wait to come back for an event, this is a really great venue that doesn't get used enough!

It has good history. Multi Purpose events space. Theatre Fairs Fashion and industry Weddings DIY events I first frequented the basement venue... side door. There were craft fairs and theatrical events down there. Upstairs... was a guest at a fantastic wedding. A Frank Sinatra band played and we danced up a storm. Happily married with 2 kids. Lots of room to roam where the side room is spacious and well windowed. Since then been to numerous arts, family and community events. Dovercourt and Queen.

I've often seen this grand looking spot from the outside but thanks to an Yelp Elite event, I was able to peer behind the glass and see if the Great Hall is truly great. Sitting in west Toronto, you wouldnt necessarily imagine a fairly large event space but the theatrical stage can be fitting for moderate sized events. The interior is what I would imagine most Victorian spaces would be... aged grandeur with character but it does has it failings. A few people have mentioned it already but DAAAAAMMMMN it gets hot in here. And I'm not talking about the event or food either... in the smaller rooms with maybe 40% filled, it was HOT. I cannot imagine how it would be with a truly filled out event. Aside from the uncomfortable heat, the crown mouldings, aged chandeliers, and polished touches does speak back to a regal Victorian atmosphere. I didnt notice the wobbly wood railings or floors that others noticed in years past. Perhaps they fixed it? Either way, it has 'character' so if you're looking for something unique and don't mind the insane heat, this might be a prime spot for your event.

Yesterday we checked out a musician performing at the great hall. The venue is really nice but I don't think this was the right venue for this sort of concert. However I have been to this hall for other events and can review the venue based on both experiences. This hall is great when both the bottom and top floor are open. The other time I was at this hall the top floor was open and seats were available for guests to view what was going on below. I believe I was here for a paint competition and I found the setting perfect for this event. I can also see how this hall would be perfect for a small wedding when decorated properly. All in all, I would rate this hall with a solid 4-stars.

Medium sized venue that's a bit run down. Terrible PA system and acoustics. I've heard there's no A/C so it'd be killer hot in here. Service was good, bar staff awesome.

My first foray into the Great Hall was for Canzine 2010 and I was immediately taken at the grandeur and feel of this charming venue. Your ascent up the entry staircase rewards you with a well-lit and airy event space decked out in Old Wood and natural light. It's not often that you see theatres with huge windows. The main hall seems to be about 2,500 square feet, with a stage at one end and a ring of balcony seating above. Just adjacent to the event space is the Conversation Room, which is much cosier and also has huge windows to let in a lot of light. I thought it was a pretty solid venue for Canzine, though I empathize with exhibitors who would have wanted more space. I'd love to see a concert or play here someday. For charm and character, this is definitely a top venue in the city, and in a cool neighbourhood too. Obligatory Title Pun: It's GRRRRRRRRREAT! Menu Readability: Nope. Need to mention: They are affiliated with the Crème Tangerine café next door. What this place teaches me about myself: I'm actually over Frosted Flakes. They're so 1988.

I've been here a few times in the past - all for the Art Battle events. I'm sure at one point this hall was...great....but not so much anymore. Kinda run down. And for some reason even if it is -20 outside it's like Satan's lair in here...HOT as HELL. There is a tiny bar in the back but I've never bothered to go - it looks crowded and from what I hear - over priced drinks. On the plus side the upstairs has seating so you can go up and chill for a bit.

It's difficult not to like this space. The sound was good. The vaulted ceiling seems heavenly and there is plenty of space to spread out. Toronto needs more venues that are low key like this. Smaller events with low cover charges need low overhead and this place must be doing something right to host some of the most eclectic events you could imagine. What makes events wonderful are the people who show up at them. When I visited the Great Hall, everyone seemed in a great mood and the majority couldn't stop moving to the music even though they were in conversation. Scenes like this are what make Toronto a fantastic city to go out in!
