# Butterchick – Indian restaurant in Toronto specializing in butter chicken and Indian cuisine

I GOT FOOD POISONING. I got their signature dish butter chicken meal, RICE WAS STALE. And THERE WAS A SMALL ROCK in the rice. When i called to complain, the waitress mocked me in their language but i understand hindi. And today when i meet the owner he hands me $20 bill to shut up. This place is all about worst customer service and worst food you will ever get in Toronto. If only there was an option to give a negative star i would give that. Insanely shady place, with the food which gives you food poisoning. Definitely going to health and safety.

Picked up some food via ritual and all in all it was pretty disappointing. I got there and lined up in front of the ritual sign which is supposed to allow you to skip the lines and just quickly pick up your food. Unfortunately this place was wildly disorganized and seemingly understaffed so I ended up waiting while the one person manning the cash took all the orders of the people standing in line, so I kind of missed the ritual perk of not having to wait. Finally the girl asked what I was waiting for and I told her, the order was ready in the window, minus the piece of naan I had ordered. She told the person cooking to prepare the naan and I saw her place this floppy looking piece of flat bread on a grill top and spritz it with water while it cooked, not a good sign. After about 5 minutes of waiting, another person showed up and started yelling at the girl in the back, they seemed to be very confused about what was going on with the naan. Once it was finally put into my bag with the rest of my order I took off to avoid and further confusion. The food certainly wasn't worth the wait. It was mediocre at best, it's like when you order Indian food at a restaurant that serves burgers. There was a cheapness to it and the amount of chicken and paneer was pretty sad. I think there were three small pieces of dried out chicken in a pool of butter chicken sauce. The naan was soggy and sad. The plus side was that there was a good amount of sauce and rice. I can't really recommend this place, especially with Indian crown right across the street, serving up much better quality food and better prices as well. They actually have a tandoor style oven in their takeout window, so no sad, soggy, grill top naan.

When this place first opened the food was pretty good for 'food court' fare. However the quality has slipped. Channa masala use to be savoury and rich, thick with chickpeas. Now it's watery soup with less ingredients. Naan use to be freshly made with a thin light texture. Now it's a thick doughy pancake that tastes and looks like it's been made yesterday and reheated in the microwave.

The food is good but the service was outright rude. I ordered online and went to pick up the food but was adamantly told there was no order (there was) and once they figured it out, tried to give me a different order and insisted it was mine when I asked about it. Finally got sorted, no apologies or explanation. Won't be going back.

Butterchick is located in the recently renovated underground level of the Sheppard Centre mall. I ordered the Butter chicken with rice which came out to a little over $10 total and was their special of the day. Immediately upon placement of the miniature 6 inch diameter circular box on my tray, I was head-dropping Charlie brown-like disappointed. I tried take the Linus bright-side, and thought to myself, "maybe the quality of the food would make up for the miniature portion size." As soon as I tasted the food I heard the Lucy-like "you can do anything right Charlie Brown". Then I wondered, whether Charlie Brown was me or the restaurant, or a bit of both. Although the food wasn't terrible, it was only slightly better than a box of frozen PC Brand microwavable butter chicken I would once in a while pick up at the nearby Shoppers Drug Mart for less than half the price. Regardless, if you're in the Yonge/Sheppard area and have a craving for quick Butter chicken or other Indian food, I would recommend trying the "Agra Fine Indian" cuisine on the north-west corner of Yonge/Sheppard. The even have an all-you-can eat lunch special for around $13 I believe with reasonable quality food.

Good wholesome and fresh Indian "home cooking". Really wonderful service for a food court restaurant. The food is very tasty and delicious. I'll write a more complete review soon.

No value for money. Quantity of food served does not match the price they demand. Very petty minded people. Very sad to see an Indian restaurant lacking the authentic Indian hospitality culture.
