Strangest hotel that seems to double up as an art gallery of sorts. It's really quite nifty and honestly the place has a very visual flair that no other place I've stayed at has and I am rather fond of it for that reason. However, at the end of the day I'm also rather practical, and as a place to *stay* it's high on style, but lower on execution. Not much in the way of sound proofing and HVAC is loud so earplugs recommended. It's kind of like somebody who designed a hotel (room) that doesn't actually use them. This leads to some fun things like a pool table with loads of books and artwork dotted around and communal spaces that function pretty well. But then you have other oddities like a chandelier above that pool table that gets in the way of actually playing it. They use a text service they emphasize over the traditional phone line, but then I couldn't get a fast response to it (I wasn't waiting more than an hour when I could just walk down and get an answer faster). All sorts of odd and small decisions that add up to a stay that's rather quirky for seasoned travelers. That's not getting into the super old elevator too (I'm sure it's charming for some folks, but it was definitely discouraging regular use and I can see it being a problem if you couldn't opt to take stairs). First off there's no space for *your* stuff. There's no space to really put any amount of luggage, no desk space, and the only trash can is in the bathroom. Very minimal places to put your things at all, which makes it feel even more cramped. Spaces for cabinets are just hollow metal stands underneath a tiny tray thing. For two people it's quite hard and we used the tiny bannister that was used for ambient lighting to also hold items cause we were desperate. I hit my head on the hanging rack since it's directly over the only place to put a backpack. It's like they didn't comprehend anyone having check-in sized luggage or someone taller than 5'3". There's barely room to setup a CPAP machine by the bedside, which I've never had to deal with in any other hotel I've stayed at (over ~50 stays to date). The electronic controls for the shade is neat. But then there's the door hanger which if you hang anything on at all will get crunched up against the wood bannister. It's more of a door handle since there's nothing else to pull on to open the bathroom. Then there's the piping like putting the sink in the bed area which is weird. The shower has no door or curtain so the water tends to just spill everywhere and the drain is where the divider would be. It was on the lower end of pricing in Toronto and for a place to crash it was serviceable given it's proximity to things. However, this was the only time my frugal brother told me to straight up just spend a bit more money. It was all fine, but definitely wouldn't be signing up for round two soon.

Yesterday Gord and I had lunch at the Gladstone House Bistro + Bar. Gord had a cheeseburger and salad and I had a burger and fries. Both were good. Lu was friendly and took good care of us.

Stayed here for a quick work trip in Toronto and had a nice stay! It's a boutique hotel, with a lot of charm. The room was really comfortable and well laid out. The bed was great. The sink is outside of the bathroom. The rooms aren't huge so they make the most of the space. There's no closet...just a rack to hang some clothes. My room was facing the Main Street which meant I'd hear the tram passing all night long. Not ideal. The first night was a bit rough to get used to the noise. The hotel is located in a great area with a grocery store across the street and so many restaurants and cafes a short walk away.

Boutique Hotel in a happening part of Toronto. Reminded me of the Kimpton via Flamingo Las Vegas. Room was spacious but a bit noisy on the fourth floor. Elevator was not working, so a bit of a walk up. High end teas, coffee and great billiards and work space. Loved it and staff was accommodating and sweet

Had brunch with my cousins here and found the food to be quite average. We had the "spicy" chicken and waffles which looked and tasted unassuming. The shakshuka was overly oilly to the point where the oil coats your mouth. I did however enjoy my green tea which came in a delightful silver teapot. Afterwards we had the house beer which wasn't bad but also isn't something I'm going to rave about. All in all not a place I'd probably return to but the hotels decor is nice with the ceiling painted by Toronto local Bryan Espiritu of Legends League which was the highlight of my visit personally

What a great space! I had never noticed this hotel before. It is in the Queen West area and has many restaurants close by. We were coming to an event being held in the hotel so we decided to stay one night. Each room is designed by an artist and has a theme. We were in the Lucky Strike room, which is one of the newest and has a double bed. The main floor of the hotel has a cafe that has gf and vegan options, plus a restaurant/bar. There is a manual elevator which is really cool. Each of the levels 2, 3 and 4 have art installations that you can walk around and enjoy. The rooms are on level 3 and 4 and level 2 has meeting rooms. There is a Metro and FreshCo just outside in case you want groceries. The parking for the hotel is underground at the Metro and costs $25+hst per night. Book your spot with the hotel and they give you a paper to display on your dashboard.

Brought my bf here for a surprise bday weekend getaway. We both love interesting architectural details, so with it's history, Gladstone House was for us. Very glad we stayed here, my bf loved it. Fun to explore each level of the hotel and all the nooks and crannies. Breakfast at the restaurant downstairs was very good and they were able to accommodate my request for just Greek yogurt and berries on our last day. Staff was super helpful. Coming from Michigan I was unfamiliar with the area and they were able to make good recommendations. Parking is definitely weird, so watch the video on their website. We really enjoyed being in such an artsy/foodie part of town and having streetcars right outside the hotel. Left our car in the parking structure and either walked or rode the streetcars our whole visit. Fair warning: the hotel is NOT quiet. You will hear noise from the street, public transit and other guests. There was a wedding party there our second and third nights and even with ear plugs it was loud. We were told they usually host wedding in the weekends when we checked in, and I had read that in other reviews before I made reservations, but still. I would also recommend making reservations on the hotel website and not a third party. I reserved through VRBO and ended up getting charged twice because the hotel staff couldn't find my payment and without being connected to Wi-Fi my American phone did not like Canadian service so I couldn't bring up my paid confirmation right away. I believe you can also get a discount on your reservation when made through the hotel's website. Nevertheless, we really enjoyed the location, the staff, the food and the hotel itself and will be back.

3.5/5 There's always something happening here. I've come for readings, art shows, parties - pretty much name it in arts and culture - and this place does it. They had a local market today and a photography exhibit so definitely always something artsy to do if you are bored in the neighbourhood. More often than not food for me has been secondary to the event and say, whatever cocktail I am having. On this day's venture, it was brunch. They have two spaces: the cafe and melody bar. The latter of the two was the only one open for dining in. I believe it re-opens for dinner. Had their Gladstone Breakfast 2.0 Not too bad because of the twist to it brought on by the chef's Filipino influence. It was the first time I had longanisa sausage as an option. It was good but I admit I would rather have had it with rice. Potatoes just don't do this justice. The second surprise was the sourdough toast. I love this flavour of bread. I took for granted how normal if not routine it was on a Vancouver brunch plate. I rarely come across this in Toronto. The usual option is rye bread which pales in comparison but ya know - I take what I can get. I also ordered a drip coffee. It had a really good finish - a nice body with this smooth, crisp finish. Rather curious of the roaster. I would order that again. All in all not too bad. I'd give the spot more a 3.5. Comfortable chill space. For brunch definitely good for any group size even peeps with kids. There's a an expanse of space to keep everyone happy.
