Our original plans to go to a BBQ in the Yonge and Eglinton are fell through so we went in search of another place to have a birthday meal. Luckily my friends heard that Playa Cabana was close by. We've been to other locations and it was always good so off we went to find Playa Cabana. It's located right at the north east corner of Yonge and Eglinton in the E-Condo building. It was a bit tricky to figure out how to get to the restaurant though as it's located on the 2nd floor. We had a stroller so we were trying to get up using the elevator. One of the 2 elevators is dedicated to get to the 2nd floor but everytime we called for an elevator the other one would arrive. We ended up having to send away the wrong elevator before calling upon the 2nd one. Finally we were able to get to the 2nd floor. Ambiance was actually very cozy and definitely gave off the cabana vibe. Oddly enough though, it was pretty empty for a Thursday evening. Only one other group was in the restaurant however there were lots of takeout bags prepared to be picked up. The restaurant only had 1 staff member that I could see on the floor but she was very attentive and kind. Food was really really good and hit all the right spots. One of the taco's of the day was a pork belly so we got 4 of those, as well as 4 fish tacos, 4 pulled beef tacos and 4 braised pork tacos. Every taco was packed with ingredients and flavour and not a drip got wasted. We also got the guac with chips and the elote corn. Both delicious in their own regards but the elote definitely stood out to me amongst the two. Prices are little expensive but we left stuffed to the brim so I wasn't mad about it. Would come back if in the area.

Dropped by for takeout at the newest addition to the Playa Family. This one is conveniently located right at Yonge and Eglinton. The restaurant is on the second floor, and looked like a great hangout spot from what I could tell - I can see this spot being popular once things open back up. The food was standard Playa goodness. I got the fish burrito, which was packed and tasty. My wife got the short rib tacos, which had a nice crunchy shell and tender beef. Portion sizes for both were small for the price, but still worth a try. Don't think you'll regret dropping by if you're in the area.

We were few friends and decided to order different items so everybody could try everything. The order came very fast, well packed and very good quality, everything seems to be so fresh, specially the guacamole! Oh gosh soooo good! They are cool with most of the modifications, which is nice for people that have allergies and intolerances. My favourite so far is the Diablo Shrimp, which sounds spicy but it's actually not, it's a little sweet. Shrimp is soft and the tacos are just delicious! Second favourite is the al pastor, tiny bit spicy that makes a perfect match with the pinneaple. The meat is very well marinated, taaaaasty! All of them were great, there was nothing that we didn't like. The burrito is huge, very filling! Tip: if you love hot sauces, ask them for their home made hot sauces, both are very nice! And then we finished the feast with churros, hahahaha. Crunchy outside, soft inside, the Cajeta is very delicious! Now I'm gonna die in the sofa because I ate like craaaaaaaaaazy! Bye bye!!!!

I went there for my birthday and I was very disappointed by a few things. The food was bad. We got the guacamole as a starter and the chips were so oily and greasy, the guacamole had no taste, fairly disappointing for a $15 bowl of bland guacamole. I got the fish tacos and was let down by the taste of the fish and the salsa. My partner got enchiladas and his rice tasted like baking soda. The ambiance wasn't great, the restaurant was empty but still they put all the customers in a small corner so it became very loud. Overall don't recommend at all.

Holy wow! As someone who eats out a lot - it is quite hard to impress me this much. This little hip place in eglinton square really surprised me with the ambiance and area. The service was quick and the food came out super fast. We decided on getting Mexican corn as our appetizer which was amazing and flavourful and better than a quac and chips appetizer (which was for some reason $15!?!?) Next we shared 3 tacos, crispy shell shrimp, soft shell fish and soft shell octopus. Out of everything we ate the shrimp taco was 10/10 amazing. It reminded me of Birria tacos but for people who don't eat red meat! And to follow up was the fish taco which was an 8/10 because the fish was crispy and perfect and felt fresh which was lovely. The octopus one was good as well but my 3rd fave. I will and would go here again - what a fabulous place and you should 100% check out the Mexican corn appetizer and the shrimp tacos!

I'd been meaning to check this joint out for a while now, and a recent sunny Sunday proved to be the ideal time to do just that. I was intrigued by their Taco Kit, which includes "8 soft corn tortillas, filling of your choice, guacamole, salsas, guajillo sauce, queso duro, crema, cilantro," and I went with Chicken Tinga and Diablo Shrimp as my proteins. It's a good deal, basically, though I wouldn't say that it contains a generous amount of food (i.e. we ran out of certain condiments long before we finished the tortillas). But the components are all really well done and certainly add up to tasty tacos when combined. The two proteins are especially delicious, and I honestly could've eaten them just on their own. We also got a salad to start, the Ensalada Picada ("avocado-black bean salad with iceberg lettuce, tomato, corn in lime, and creamy chipotle"). Again, it's not a huge portion, but it's tasty. The dressing was maybe a little sweeter than I would've preferred, and the avocado was far from ripe, but when combined, I didn't mind this concoction one bit. I'm looking forward to the day when I can get a meal in person, but this'll do for now.

Was craving tacos so we ordered the grilled fish tacos, a burrito and a side of chips. The fish tacos were not that great and pretty small, but the burrito was big and really filling, so I'm glad we got both! The chips were tasty and we ate it with the guacamole that came with the burrito. Overall we would come back again but just for the burrito and chips, and skip the tacos.

Playa Cabana Bar Esquina is a cozy Mexican restaurant. Very nice ambience for a weekday date night. However, the food was a bit of a let down (6/10), I thought it was good for the price. The service was average, my gf made it clear that she doesn't want anything spicy. She ordered a chicken burrito but it was super spicy and topped with chili sauce on top, we were quite disappointed in that.

Amazing. There's nothing better. All these years I've been spending my money at Maiz (yonge and Lawrence). No more. The food here is next level.

I just wanted to say "thank you" to the wonderful chef & staff of Playa Cabana for helping me make my friend's birthday special. I'm in Dallas, TX, USA and I used Uber Eats to send a surprise birthday dinner to my friend there in Toronto. I included a note on UE that it was a birthday dinner, and you graciously included a complimentary dessert, as well as, writing a happy birthday message on the packaging. I was so elated when my friend shared this with me. I ordered the shrimp diablo tacos, rice, beans & churros for dessert. My friend advised everything was delicious. He loved the shrimp tacos. Full of flavor. The churros were excellent, as well. He'd never had Tres Leches cake before (birthday dessert) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you, thank you for your generosity and attention to customer service. We'll definitely order from you again.
