BLF is truly one of the most amazing restaurants I have ever been to. I have had the pleasure of dining with them dozens of times since they've opened, and each time is more special than the last. The staff is truly unbeatable. Everyone there is so passionate about food, wine, and cocktails that it's impossible not to feel the same. Speaking of the food, some of my most recent favorite dishes are from here. Renee recommended a Paneer Pesto pasta that Chef Louis was doing as a special one night, and to this day I still tell people it was one of the most insane dishes I've ever had! Do yourself a favor and swing by here if you live in Montreal or you're just visiting, you won't regret it!

We ate at Bistro La Franquette for the first time with some friends who were visiting from out of town. Being a group of four gave us a chance to try a number of menu items. Overall we had a good experience at La Franquette, with one little hiccup which was handled very well by our server. The ambiance at La Franquette is nice enough, but nothing special. Our friends from out of town made a good observation saying that there was nothing about the place that really made you feel like Montreal. We order the following: olives, bread, tuna tataki, housemade halloumi, moules frits and the ravioli. Everything was very good with the exception of the ravioli, more on that later. Of what we ordered I'd say that the standouts were the olives, served warm and not acidic or salty which was very enjoyable, the halloumi, with a great flavour profile and texture (some halloumi can be a bit rubbery but not this) and the house cultured butter than came with the bread. The only disappointment was the ravioli. The tomato sauce that it was served with was extremely salty. To the point that I wasn't able to eat it. The raviolis themselves seemed well made. However, the server handled the situation extremely well and was very apologetic. Given that it was dealt with so professionally I'm not holding this issue against them in any way. Additionally, they offered me a complimentary dessert. I had the peach pavlova which was very good.

To say this restaurant was marvelous is an understatement. We ordered both pastas, every dessert, each got a steak and had some drinks from the bar that were faaaaantastic. When I told the owner that although we were originally supposed to be a party of 3, the now party of 2 would eat like at least three people. She later came up to us when we ordered and said "boy you're not kidding" and led us to a bigger table. It melted me!

The new kid on the block in Westmount is everything I love in a restaurant. Large portions, good drinks, reasonable prices, and a friendly and motivated young team putting it all together. I'm almost worried to leave such a good review because reservations here are still easy to get....for now. Adopting the French bistro formula, this restaurant serves dinosaur sized slices of homemade sourdough bread and butter alongside equally enormous appetizers. I got the chicken liver mousse which was surrounded by what tasted like a grape jelly aspic. Served with a delicious mustard and gherkins to go with toasted baguette slices, I could have left completely full after the appetizer. This isn't a complaint. So many restaurants serve dainty little appetizers and charge 20$ for them with no shame. The dish here was not only delicious, but came in at about 16$ and could have fed 3 people; Amazing! My wife ordered thin and rare slices of lamb with a celery root remoulade on top. Again, the starter was delicious and huge. For those of us who can eat good portions, this restaurant is exactly on point. For my main, I had to have the standard hangar steak and fries which is bistro 101. Served in thick sliced with a pan reduction, a generous pat of compound butter, and high quality fries with a garlic aioli, this dish is a winner. Despite being a newer restaurant, this dish is already in the discussion for the top 5 steak frites in the city. The meat was very well seasoned and perfectly medium rare. For dessert, we had some delicious homemade pastries. You can tell that the people behind this place know what they are doing and have brought in a rich skill set from their previous positions elsewhere. The staff is extremely hard working and eager to please. I will certainly be back here!

The worst experience in my life :) Two weeks ago, my boyfriend brought me to this resto. We had an amazing time, and the food is excellent. We decided to come back today. However, we had the worst service ever from " the owner" as she told us. My boyfriend ordered two drinks and food (cod cheek croquettes, hanger steaks, rigatoni)at the same time; after 30 mins, we started asking our waitress. She replied us : " that's the kitchen", she doesn't bother to go to check. Even though there is an entrée dish, we don't even have it. And then, we look at "the owner", my boyfriend asked her about the food. She was holding a glass, didn't want to put it down and came to talk. "She just craned her neck and looked at us". I never received that response in a restaurant. Especially, the price of the food we pay, we don't deserve to have that service . With that attitude, we would rather go to eat at Chinese restaurant . They serve better than yours. We waited for our order, and she told us to leave. What kind of service is this ? I recommended a lot of people to come but now I regret.

Absolutely outstanding simple food. We loved every dish. The highlights include the chicken liver with homemade sourdough bread, the steak was absolutely incredible with the best fries I've ever had and the ranch style salad was absolutely delectable. To top it off, the Negroni I had was perfect. Finally, our server was incredibly friendly, attentive and helpful. I don't have a single complaint - this is one of the best restaurants I've been to in Montreal which is saying a lot!

Inventive, creative, delicious food with each dish being so unique from homemade bread and butter to entree and dessert- you will never experience anywhere else. In a cozy atmosphere with friendly staff. Amazing time! Def will be back.

I'm a first-time guest in Montreal so my thoughts on restos are based on single visits to highly recommended places. This review is no exception. What I am finding is that the quality of the places I am trying is very high, but making distinctions between them is highly personal. So how do I award that precious fifth star? I find "cons" in every restaurant but they are very specific to my preferences and expectations. Pros of this place are delicious food, excellent service, and some truly stunning female servers. Cons are that it is much smaller than I expected so not particularly comfortable, and it has a very small menu. I expected "a brasserie" and this was definitely "a bistro", if you know the distinction you will understand why I might have been disappointed. If you are looking for a French bistro of high quality, this is your place. If you need a happening brasserie with excitement and commotion, this isn't it. But those women!
