Small part of the jungle that seems bigger than it is due to be winding paths. But an enjoyable way to spend 1.5 to 2hrs.

Since it's nature you can't guarantee what you will spot each night. Sometimes it could be nothing and other times you might see everything.

We came during rainy season and our guide was able to pinpoint a number of insects and animals we would have completely missed without their help. We saw a couple of pit vipers, multiple kinkajou, stick insects, glass frog, baby scorpion, daddy long legs, various spiders, a few sleeping birds, a possum, Moths and butterflies. Various bugs.

We did occasionally interact with other groups either by crossing their paths or when guides shared the location of certain animals they had found so that other groups could get a chance to see.

Our guide provided example photos of the animals we saw on their phone and also informed us about them, from their breeding habits to what they eat and when. They also made sure our group of 5 all saw each animal before they moved to the next spot.

They can provide flashlights if required although if you have some good quality ones, I suggest using your own.

The night walk itself was very interesting, our guide showed us a bunch of animals that we would have never seen otherwise.

Pickup was a bit strange, because our hotel was not an option, but the random Airbnb on the next road was. The pickup was a bit late, so we were standing around on an empty street in front of a random house with no indication that it was the right one, wondering if they forgot us. I got a pretty quick response to my mail though, and then the bus did show up, and everything else went pretty smoothly.

Do not waste your money doing this night walk. Let me start by saying that although this was the only night walk we did in monteverde, we did do other night walks in Costa Rica during our stay and this was by far the worst one. There are at least 8 groups of 8 people each on this night walk. The land is not that big, so not only can you hear other groups but you can also see them and their flashlights too. Walk ways are big enough for 1 1/2 people but you are constantly having to move and make way for other groups passing you by.
Our tour guide was awful. Spend 80% of the time in complete silence. He was so quiet when he did talk and only catered to the people at the front of the group (we were unfortunately in the back). I asked him multiple times to speak up and allow for those in the back to participate and he still didn’t. At one point we were standing at a standstill on the trail only to find out that he was showing everyone at the front a tranatula for 6 minutes and didn’t even include us. Because of how dark and narrow the walkways are it is very easy to be left behind and left out if you are in the back of the groups. There is absolutely no reason for it to be 8 in a group especially since they can’t accommodate that size on a trail without it being a straight line.
Look through all the reviews. We saw the exact same things that everyone else did. Spent the first 45 minutes of the walk only seeing an ant colony (I am not lying!). Saw a couple birds, leg of a tarantula, snake, and scorpion. Besides that saw nothing. Not suprised, as I’m not sure what animals would be comfortable beings around 50+ people all talking and with bright lights. Seems like they know where stuff is on the trail and they plan stops at those few things.  I’m convinced our tour guide wasn’t even looking for animals and was just waiting for other guides to use their walkie talkie and state where the animals were. It seems we were walking aimlessly 95% of the time.
Don’t get me wrong, I understand that you can’t fault nature for not seeing the animals you were expecting. However, the environment they create is so far from inviting for animals that it’s no wonder you barely see anything. This entire places needs a revamp in how they go about these tours. Focus on quality rather than quantity. With the lackluster of animal sightings, the  least they could’ve done was provide some knowledge about the forest and animals but they didn’t even do that. Not informative, not interesting, and overall a horrible experience. We were counting down the time until we could leave. I do NOT recommend this place at all!!!!

Pretty cool experience overall. Got to see a lot of insects, frogs, toucans, migratory birds, sloths, tarantulas, snakes and more. Our guide was very knowledgeable and was able to spot animals that I would have 100% missed.

My only complaint is being provided with a terrible flashlight that would barely illuminate the trail in front of me and spending too much time on a single animal (we spent 10 mins on a single sloth). However, the tour was still worth it given what we were able to see.
