I’ve been circling around this museum for a while since it kind of starts even before you enter—there are two massive bronze heads at the gate, literally called Cabezas. If you’ve watched Attack on Titan, you’ll probably get the same vibes I did. Inside, you’re immediately greeted by another giant freak in the center and yet another one crawling on all fours.

And honestly, besides these statues, there’s not much to see. Contemporary art is what it is. There’s also a portrait of the artist himself in the gallery, and he looks like a regular guy, but his art is definitely… something. The 3D pieces are at least somewhat interesting, but the paintings? Especially the ones made by his wife? Absolute trash. Most of them don’t even have titles, probably because even the artist herself had no idea what she was doing.

As is often the case with contemporary art museums, the place was completely empty. Just a few bored staff members, a couple of workers tinkering with something, and me—literally no one else.

Entrance is 20 pesos, cash only. Funny enough, I thought I didn’t have any cash on me, but somehow a 20-peso bill magically appeared in my pocket—probably the universe making sure I went in.

Exceptional museum with only a 20 peso admission fee. Very peaceful environment. Focuses on two artists. Not just artistic talent but also amazing craftsmanship. The bodies of work are uplifting and you leave with a positive vibe. With so many museums in Mexico City I would say this may be the one that is the most enjoyable to visit.

sometimes I’d sit and ponder
conclude yeah that’s a shape
sometimes I’d stand and wonder
is that’s supposed to be a face
sometimes I’d make a blunder
that’s a ladder not art
sometimes I’d walk 15 minutes away to the closest atm because it’s cash only and I only had 4 pesos but I ended up getting a $50 pesos bill with a axolotl so it’s all okay today

Beautiful building and some very interesting art from one of Mexico's lesser known artists, to foreigners at least. It's a shame that there is so little information allowing to put the artist's work in context.
