The hotel location was great in regards to being on a private beach however you can not swim at the beach because of the strong current.  The road to get to the hotel was terrible (see the photo of the road below).  The road was full of ruts and rocks.   It looked like a dry river bed.   The hotel rooms were nice however they could use some maintenance.  The weather stripping on the windows was falling off which allowed bugs and hot air to get in the room.   It was difficult to keep the room cool.   Also, the balcony was full of ants which would come into the room.  The restaurant had really great food and the staff were great.  They were friendly and provided good service.   Overall the hotel was nice however it’s definitely over priced.  I believe the hotel rooms are only worth $150 USD max a night.   I would not recommend staying here for the price as the value just isn’t there.   I have stayed in nicer hotels in the area for a much lower price.

We had an exceptional week at Casona Sforza. Secluded, yet close to town, the setting is beautiful. The rooms are large, well done and beautiful. The restaurant is by far the best element of this place. The FOOD!!!! Is exceptionnal, so flavouful. We stayed in everyday just so we could keep eating our way down the menu. It is expensive, but they are secluded and have lots of staff, so it is all justify in my opinion. This is by far the best restaurant in Puerto Escondido.

We had a great stay at Casona Sforza. The hotel is  impressively beautiful, particularly its architecture and the way the hotel coexists with nature. The food in the restaurant (La Boveda) was top notch. From its breakfast to dinner options, everything we tried at La Boveda was great! Last but certainly not least, the attention from all the staff at Casona Sforza was excellent. They all made sure our stay was thoroughly enjoyable.

This place was suggested by our friend Julie z. (Who is a chef by the way so her review is very legit) we tried it the year before but got refused because we had our kid with us… (Adult only) the road to get there is absolutely horrible but dont let this fool you.. once you get there, it is absolutely gorgeous. The food is beyond delicious and the venu and staff was amazing… It is a lot more expensive then what you usually pay for a meal in Puerto in general but totally worth it… make sure you get there before sunset if you can and grab a drink to check it out on the beach.

Review: La Bóveda Restaurant, Puerto Escondido – A Warning for Locals and Nationals

I strongly caution locals and nationals against visiting La Bóveda restaurant inside Casona Sforza. The service is not just bad—it’s outright discriminatory. The staff blatantly prioritize foreigners, treating them with excessive attention while neglecting or outright disrespecting Mexican patrons.

During my visit, it was clear that being a national meant you were second-class. Despite arriving first, we were made to wait much longer than foreign diners, who were served immediately and given preferential treatment. To add insult to injury, the restaurant allowed foreign customers, particularly those who fit a stereotypical “ideal” appearance (blonde and light-eyed), to dine without even wearing shoes—something unimaginable for locals.

This kind of behavior is not just unprofessional; it is an insult to the very people of this country. For a restaurant in a Mexican tourist destination to openly disregard and mistreat its own nationals is both shameful and unacceptable.

I urge locals to avoid this place and spend their money at establishments that respect and value everyone equally. La Bóveda has shown through its actions that it does not deserve our patronage. Let this serve as a warning: don’t waste your time, money, or dignity here.
