Cannot say enough good things about this place. First, the location is stunning. The lagoon is so beautiful and the grounds of the hotel were very peaceful and well maintained. The food and drink was some of the best I’ve ever had at a hotel. We ate all but two meals at the property and thought everything was excellent. The complimentary breakfast was also a lot of food. Finally, everyone on the staff was so lovely. They were kind and helpful and made us feel very welcome. We especially appreciated Francisco and Camal. They remembered our names after one day and were so sweet and accommodating the whole trip. The only small downside was the spa- our massages were great but facial was a bit disappointing. Still loved our stay, and would recommend this place to anyone! We will be back!

After our first night my daughter had many bites on mainly her legs and we thought it was mosquitoes. The second morning there were more by the third morning she didn’t want anyone to see her legs. Our room had bedbugs and we had to call an outside doctor to come and diagnose the bites because I was told there aren’t bedbugs in the tropics. Denial… all hotels, regardless of the number of stars and location have problems with bedbugs but no one wanted to take responsibility. We were able to changed rooms, we went to a pharmacy and got meds all at our own expense, including the doctor. They had our clothes laundered but the manager never apologized.
The staff was lovely, as is the location and the food was delicious but it was truly a nightmare for my daughter.

Disappointing Experience – Not Worth the Hype

I had high expectations for Our Habitas Bacalar, but my stay was a massive disappointment. For the price they charge, the experience is far from luxury and lacks basic hospitality.

First, the service was shockingly bad. Staff seemed indifferent and unhelpful. Any request took forever to be addressed, and communication was frustratingly slow. It felt like they cared more about their Instagram aesthetic than actually making guests feel welcome.

The rooms were poorly maintained—beautiful in photos but impractical in reality. We had issues with humidity, musty smells, and even bugs in the room. For a place that claims to be “eco-luxury,” the lack of proper ventilation and comfort was unacceptable.

The food was extremely overpriced and mediocre. Limited options, small portions, and service that took way too long. There are far better restaurants in Bacalar for a fraction of the price.

Another huge letdown was the lack of privacy and noise issues. The way the accommodations are set up makes it feel like you have no personal space. You can hear everything from neighboring rooms and the common areas, making it difficult to relax.

And let’s talk about the lack of amenities—for the price they charge, you’d expect at least a decent pool or a proper lounging area. Instead, the lagoon access was crowded, and there was nowhere truly comfortable to unwind.

Overall, this place is a complete rip-off. It markets itself as an exclusive retreat, but it’s poorly managed, overpriced, and fails to deliver a true luxury experience. There are so many better options in Bacalar that offer actual hospitality and value for money. Save yourself the frustration and stay elsewhere!

We had a wonderful stay at our habitats bacalar. The rooms were quiet and thoughtfully done. The food was excellent. The staff were friendly and responsive. The lagoon was very special. We will look forward to a return trip!!

What a beautiful place! Exactly what we needed after almost 2 weeks travelling around Mexico. The staff are wonderful, the food was delicious and the scenery is stunning. I only have one comment and that is the music at the lagoon bar. The styles of music were very random and very loud, even after asking to be turned down, later in the day it was back to being loud. For a hotel the prides itself in helping you reconnect with mother nature, the choice and volume of music made this very difficult even in the further sun lounger from the speaker.
Other than that. We had a wonderful 4 days here. Thank you.
