Shrimp ceviche ....money!!! We stumbled upon this public pub off the beach in the middle of all the inclusive resorts....WOW!! Súper yumm!! From the fries to the ceviche to the cocktails! To make matters EVEN BETTER...the service was top notch from our bartender Alexis to Diego (can't remember his position but very kind and helpful)...we'll definitely be back! Can't go wrong with this view!

Just spent a week at Solymar. We rented a room through Airbnb. The particular room we stayed in was great. We had a great view and the owner took great care of us. The place itself is a bit run down. The restaurant by the pool was for the all inclusive guest, so we did not use it. Our sense was it was a cheap buffet that did not look very appealing. The pool was nice with a bar in the pool that had music blaring all the time. Again it was mostly for the all inclusive folks. The property is south of where the action is which is great if you want to get some peace and quite time on the beach where it is less crowded. We came down every day and got a tiki umbrella spot with beach chairs for free. We did alway give a tip so we were always well taken care of. The property in general is okay, but is not the best maintained. The all inclusive is just the buffet food and drinks, that I would not recommend. The beach is fantastic, safe, and comfortable. However, the sargasso problem is a real issue all over the beach. Some areas deal with it better than others. Solymar did not do a good job managing the problem. So I would not recommend this place for the all inclusive. The Airbnb option seems like a good approach to get away to a quite place on the beach for a reasonable price. Other note is that Navios is the only restaurant within walking distance that I would highly recommend. There are a ton of other good places and shopping to the north, but you will need to take the bus - recommend this over taxis.

We rented a condo at Solymar (12-29-19 through 1-5-20) during the week of New Years. The location is PERFECT if you are going to rent your own car and tour the Yucatan Peninsula! You are so far south in the Hotel Zone that you miss all the major traffic. You can get to Tulum, Chechen Itza, Coba, and all the Cenotes quickly! And, if you want to head into town at night, the bus stops right outside your door! You can drive...but the parking is not the best so take the bus! Food: we only ate one meal at Solymar. It was the restaurant that is right on the beach. We had tacos and they were amazing. Because there are so many great places to eat, we walked, took the bus, or drove to all our meals. The Room: we rented a condo through AirBnB at Solymar. First, the view of the sunrise every morning was breathtaking over the ocean. The room was spacious for two people. We brought our own smoothie mix and bought tons of fruit and supplies when we first arrived. We froze our fruit so it was ready every morning to make a big smoothie for our daily road trip. The hearty blender was able to mix our smoothies perfectly. The fridge was LARGE so there was plenty of room for food and WATER. We went across the street to the store and bought a huge bottle of water so we drank off of that all week long. We used the stove only twice. It was too much trouble to do dishes! We preferred to eat out for lunch and supper! Beach: the beach at Solymar is amazing! They had a volleyball net so we were sure to bring our own ball so we could play when we wanted. The water was clean and beautiful! Parking: we were a little worried about parking but there was always plenty of places to park. We usually got our favorite spot right outside our walkway to our room. And, there are trees that line that area so we could actually park in the shade! Staff: the Solymar staff was really friendly! I cannot say enough about how nice everyone was! Laundry: they have a laundry option right there for you. Half way through our trip, we had them do our laundry. I only cost a couple dollars to get our stinky clothes off the floor and back in the drawer. And, because it was so convenient, we had them do our laundry before we flew home so we just had a few things in a very small bag that needed to be washed when we arrived home! I cannot say enough about how convenient that option was!!!! LOVE IT! MOST SINCERELY!

Where we were staying villa nine it was the worst ever!! First of all when we got here the beds smelled like mildew and way more. Next the lights in our room we leaking and was terrible, aswell as the toilets were not working properly and the shower heads were going everywhere and it ruined my vacation also the food was terrible if you in Cancun please treat yourself and don't ruin your vacation thank you!

Stayed here through an Airbnb rental, and my boyfriend and I were not disappointed. For the price ($100/night), we got a spacious room with gorgeous oceanfront views AND a private rooftop terrace overlooking the bay. PROS: // On the quieter end of the hotel zone, so it wasn't sprawling with tourist // Easy beach access with free beach chairs available exclusively for Solymar guest // Super close to the Cancun airport CONS: // Place is a tad dated. Some renovations are due. // Not as many walkable restaurant options, but the ones we did try were all amazing. // Luke warm water. Not sure if this was specific to my Airbnb condo, but my showers weren't the most enjoyable. // There's a restaurant on the property but my Airbnb host warned us against eating there. Overall, I felt we got a great deal for the price. For our next trip to Cancun, we may book at a nicer resort just for the amenities, but I would definitely recommend Solymar!

I really loved Solymar. Came here for my birthday celebration/vacation and loved every moment of Cancun. The hotel is certainly a bit outdated, BUT, they were currently working on renovations on the other side, so hopefully they will work on some things that were really outdated in the rooms like more light fixtures, a better latch on sliding doors for balcony, lighting in bathroom. The staff was IMPECCABLE. We had the all inclusive option, so we visited the bars frequently and the snack bar and the restaurant. The front desk management was soo helpful as well. I suggest for American travelers to bring at least $50 in single bills as sometimes the front desk didn't have change readily available when we wanted to leave. The city buses are quiet the experience. We took them to the strip to where the clubs and restaurants are. It's only 1 USD. Please also be advised that Solymar does NOT have wifi in the rooms. Only in the lobby and at the bar. I have an unlimited mobile plan, with an international package- but that's why I docked 1 star bc of the wifi and the front desk not having the currency exchange or USD cash to give change back when we need. Nonetheless, the pool is fun and it is VERY close to beach and the other resorts strips as well. ALSO. Beware of the guys that will try to up-sell you excursions @ the resort. Unnecessarily expensive and you can find deals on the strip

We ended up booking an Airbnb in Cancun and it happened to be at The Solymar in the hotel zone which was perfect. The beach was beautiful, quiet, and not crowded at all. The majority of the staff were helpful and generous. There's a bus stop right outside the hotel which makes getting around easy, and there's an Oxxo within walking distance. The property is older and in need of a renovation, but that is just fine with me. We had a great time here on this side of the hotel zone, far more quiet than near the mega resorts.

This was booked through Orbitz and it was 2 standard lagoon view rooms. Receptionist was helpful. This is the hotel from hell. It only has your base sheets no blankets no towels .You have to check them out in the lobby. Also they have bed bugs. No wifi in the entire hotel except for the lobby, in case you were thinking of catching up with work emails, nope. There is no elevator, so you have to drag up the long staircase your luggage. The bar... oh man the beach bar.... no lie I had to slap back together the wood from the chair I sat in. We got "ALL Inclusive" bullshit, you get tap beer and hotel food is blah. No room service, don't even there try to take your food to the room or cup by accident because they will haunt you down. The showers were like you were stuck in the eye of the hurricane. If the hotel had just had the normal accommodations and they were true to their website listing and pictures I would of stayed there, but sadly they take advantage. I hope they honestly invest in this property and make it great again, it's stuck in the 1990's. It has a wonderful view from the lobby, breathtaking but sadly that is all. The pool my friends was full of people playing their boom boxes with Oxxos coolers. Please save your money and go elsewhere. Any positive reviews are probably for the apartments and villas they rent not the standard rooms. One last thing, all the above took place July 7th 2021, between the hours of 6 & 10pm, we left that same evening. I usually take pictures of everything, but I didn't want remainders of this hotel.
