Terrible Family Rental Experience in Tulum – Avoid at All Costs- Only one key for a 4-person property!

Our family vacation in Tulum turned into a frustrating experience due to poor management and unacceptable conditions. Here’s what you need to know:

Unfriendly and Unhelpful Host:

The host was not welcoming, gave no proper tour, and was difficult to communicate with due to a language barrier.
When we raised concerns, he was stubborn and unwilling to accommodate even basic requests.
Key Problems:

Only one key for a 4-person property!
If the key is removed, the air conditioning stops, leaving the house at a stifling 85°F (30°C). Cooling down takes 1-2 hours.
Inconveniences include:
Going out at night and having to wake sleeping kids at 2 a.m. to get back in.
Needing someone to always stay behind to open the door, even for small errands like grabbing coffee.
Unreasonable Policies:

Despite offering extra money for a second key, the host refused.
We requested a refund after staying one night, but it was denied.
Poor Property Maintenance:

The house had ants and bugs, especially in the bathroom, due to the tropical climate.
The pool was dirty and non-functional during the day, making it unusable.

Conclusion:

I’ve traveled to over 35 countries and 200+ cities, staying in various properties, but I’ve never encountered such an inflexible and poorly managed rental. If you’re planning a trip to Tulum with family or a partner, this property will ruin your vacation. Stay away from rentals that refuse to provide multiple keys and basic amenities.

We recently stayed at this property for a family vacation, and unfortunately, our experience was far from ideal. The property, which accommodates up to 6 people, only provided one key. This made it incredibly difficult for our group to manage our independent schedules—whether for activities, meals, or just coming and going at different times. It felt more like staying in a school dormitory than a vacation rental.

What made matters worse was the owner, who was not only uncooperative but also quite rude and stubborn when we raised our concerns. For a group of more than 2 people, especially when everyone has their own plans for the day and night, this property is not practical and will likely ruin your vacation.

Overall, this was a frustrating experience, and we would not recommend it for larger groups or anyone looking for a smooth, stress-free stay.

Our family vacation in Tulum quickly turned into a nightmare due to poor management and unacceptable conditions. Here’s why you should steer clear of this property:

**Unwelcoming and Unhelpful Host:**
The host was cold and unaccommodating from the start. There was no proper tour of the property, and communication was difficult due to a language barrier. When we raised concerns, he was stubborn and unwilling to address even basic requests.

**Key Issues:**
The most frustrating part of the stay was the key situation. Despite the property being designed for four people, there was only one key provided!

- If the key is removed from the door, the air conditioning shuts off, leaving the house unbearably hot (85°F or 30°C). It would take up to two hours to cool down.
- This meant we had to wake up our sleeping children at 2 a.m. to let someone back in, or leave someone behind at all times to hold onto the key.
- When we offered extra money for a second key, the host refused, showing no willingness to resolve the issue.

**Unreasonable Policies:**
After experiencing these challenges, we asked for a refund after staying just one night. Our request was outright denied, which added insult to injury.

**Property Maintenance Issues:**
The property was poorly maintained:
- Ants and bugs were a constant issue, especially in the bathroom, which was disappointing given the tropical climate.
- The pool was dirty and non-functional during the day, making it unusable for our family.

**Untrustworthy Behavior:**
I noticed that the owner is actively refusing reservations in the comments for other guests, acting as if no bookings were made by them. To avoid this issue, I am adding a picture of my reservation as proof of our stay.

**Conclusion:**
I’ve traveled extensively, visiting many countries and cities, but this was by far the worst rental experience I've ever had. The inflexibility, poor maintenance, and lack of basic amenities made this vacation a total disaster. If you’re considering a trip to Tulum with family or a partner, avoid this property at all costs—don’t let it ruin your vacation like it did ours.
