This is a beautiful historic hotel filled with mementos of the last century. There are photos of the hotel from the early 1900's and its on the historic register. It's within easy walking distance of shops and restaurants with a walkable public art tour featuring artists like Robert Wyland and Hunter S Thompson. The entire staff is friendly and helpful and the manager, Terry, spent lots of time telling me about the 26 room hotel and the haunted history. She showed me her video of a chandelier with just a few of the crystals vibrating inexplicably and told us that some ghost hunters had told them there were 32 separate entities inhabiting the hotel. I didn't see anything strange but I love the stories. There's a basic fitness room and a beautiful bar area (but no liquor license) where the breakfast buffet is served. The breakfast is small but adequate with the star being the pancake machine that looks like a copy machine but spits out thin pancakes when you push the button. There was no fruit available but they do have water, coffee and tea available all day. The room was comfortable with the old timey vibe. The updates include a power strip with USB ports, a coffee maker (and tea provided) and a large flat screen TV. There's no air conditioning but the floor fan works well enough. We chose this hotel to be within walking distance of the train station and the train rolls in at 5:20am - blasting it's whistle for about a full minute. It leaves again at 6:45am but the whistle is shorter. I was exhausted and fell back to sleep quickly so it wasn't really a problem for me. The huge gift shop next store offers hotel guest 10% off and they have everything you could want. I would definitely recommend this very clean and comfortable, unique hotel with its attentive staff.

We decided to stay here after our expedition cruise of the inside passage. It was way more expensive than any hotel we have ever picked...but all the hotels in anchorage are priced that high. We wanted a downtown hotel with character and that's what we got. The delightful front desk clerk was new but ever so helpful in her directions to the hip Quantum Laundry and Whiskey & Ramen. The room was really clean and well appointed. We enjoyed the historic vibe- the funky tub, the big windows, the hallway photos and the antique lobby bar. After a week of Alaskan Dream Cruise meals, the breakfast was a little disappointing but it gave us an excuse to find a local coffee shop. We are really glad we stayed at this hotel.

This hotel is exactly as is states. Historic. Everything is in bad shape, stinks, carpet stains, no air conditioning, no screens on windows so you can't open to cool down, homeless camps all around the area. This is a terrible downtown hotel. Very over priced for what you get. We have been all the way to Fairbanks and back and have stayed in a lot of small towns that had much better accommodation than this hotel has. We were very disappointed. Also asked for refund before we stayed and they have a seven day cancellation policy. So we could not move to another location without loosing are money. They should be very ashamed.

I absolutely love this Hotel. It's the heartbeat of Anchorage. Not only is it walking distance to most of downtown but it's also really cool and historic. The staff are so kind and professional. They make you feel welcomed. Rooms are immaculate and up to date. And GHOST fans will love that the place is also haunted. I have stayed here 4 different times and I love it. Highly recommended.

We had our travel agent reserve 2 king suites, one room had a couch, coffee table and end chair...the other just a chair in a corner away from the tv. We had to sit on the bed the whole time. The heat is a boiler, which was not turned on yet. No circulation of air, felt like I was suffocating. It was in desperate need of a refresh. The worst hotel experience I have ever had. And there are homeless drug addicts on the street! Go to the Hilton!

The Historic Anchorage Hotel is a pretty cool place. It really does a nice job of balancing historic charm with modern updates. Parking is a bit of a challenge, the coho lot is a lot a half block away. The rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable. The one downside I experienced was the lack of air conditioning. I left my windows open to get a cool breeze and that helped a lot. The breakfasts are in the historic bar and they are pretty simple. Premade cheese omelettes, pancakes, sausage, and potatoes. The coffee is fresh tasting and is available all day long. The hotel exudes history, and if you are lucky you might even get to meet one of the spirits that resides here. A special thanks to the staff who were helpful and always had a great attitude! This was a great place to spend my nights in Anchorage!

Excellent old school hotel in the perfect location. This is close to absolutely everything in downtown Anchorage. It's likely the best value downtown too.

This hotel has a lot of history. The structure and ambiance has the feel of a time lost. They give you an actual key(no key cards). The staff was super! There professionalism was a work of art, in fact I wanted them to relax a little. My room was excellent. I rented the Laurance Suit. It was a decent size with a living room. The bathroom was true to the traditional size of the early 20's, small. I wish the fridge was bigger too. But it served its purpose. My biggest negative was the amount of space under my front door.i put a towel there at night. This was a great hotel.....it reminded me of the the Shinnings hotel lol. It was scary but you see some historical context.

I was accommodated by the staff of the hotel during a week of an award ceremony. The staff was definitely top notch in my opinion. Had loud and drunk nights here during that time and they definitely adjusted for us! The cookies left out on the lobby desk was a plus!

I really don't know what to make of this place. The lobby is pretty, and the staff is very nice. It was listed in the guide book, and others seem to love it. But, the day we arrived, our room was about 500 degrees. Thankfully, it cooled off at night and with a fan and the windows open it was reasonably comfortable. Of course, with the open windows, we could hear all the loud, drug-fueled fighting going on in the sketchy park directly across the street...I should've known something was afoot when I noticed the white noise machine. The room above us sounded like it was full of elephants, and someone else sure likes music, because I heard it start at 7:30a and continue about all day. There was a nice ice machine and a vending machine which, alas, took only dollars, but that didn't really matter anyway because all it held was soda (no water). There was so much noise and so many people hanging about in the hallway that I thought we might have stumbled into a bordello. Oh, and as far as the reputation of the hotel being haunted goes, all I can tell you is that I'm pretty sure that my husband had a paranormal experience (although he will only call it weird and unexplainable). And one window kept popping itself open. Grateful that we're only here one night.
