Hannah was a great guide. Her information about the whales was very informative. Captain John did a great job getting us on the whales. We really enjoyed this excursion!

Family of three had an amazing time with Captain Alan and his wife who is first mate. We needed to move up our time slot from an 8am to a 7am departure which was not an issue. Everything game together to make our trip memorable: 1. The boat is very new and well maintained with a proper bathroom (liquids only can go down.) 2. Captain Alan is passionate about fishing and will put you on the fish. That also speaks volume for the equipment you'll be using which is all top shelf. In addition he takes great care in handling the fish and properly releasing species we could not keep. 3. His wife does a great job capturing your moments and sharing them with you. Couple of other items to note. They also take time to stop for whales and orcas, we saw both on our trip. Captain Alan also follows all fish & game regulations so you'll need to bring your fishing licenses and young kids have to wear life jackets when on the back deck (which our daughter actually liked because it kept here warmer and she could put the butt of the pole in the jacket.). The coolers they have are small, but its pretty cool on the boat so we didn't need them to keep our sandwiches and drinks cold (they only provide water and granola to snack on.) They work with a fish processor who will package and ship everything back to you ($3 per pound plus shipping) OR they will clean some for you to take back to your rental to cook for dinner. Would definitely recommend to my friends. FYI: they book months in advance but we got lucky and filled a last minute cancellation. Yes its private and a little more money than others, but definitely worth it!!!

What a fun time! The captain knew where to find these creatures. We saw at least 12 gorgeous animals. Cold rainy day but the inside seating was comfortable and the windows are perfect huge size for sightings. The naturalist guide was clearly in love with her job. She was as excited as we were at each siting. We came across a family of sea lions napping on a buoy. So cute to see the baby poke his head out from under mom. Worth the money for sure. Even though we had seen more whales off the coast of VA, these were Alaska whales!

A week ago, 5 of us went on a fishing trip in Juneau with Alan and Tanja. It was my first time fishing, and as our captains and guides, Alan and Tanja were outstanding coaches helping to get me started. I went from complete novice to catching halibut and even a quillback rockfish. They were patient, and explained everything very thoroughly. I will definitely be going fishing again, and next time I'm in Juneau I'll be chartering with Alan and Tanja!

This is my second attempt at reviewing this business. For some reason the Yelp computer won't publish my last one. I don't know if the computer thought I might not be a real customer or what. Anyway, my husband and I took Whale Watch tour with Captain Alan and First Mate Nolan on July 5. We had an absolute blast! First of all, both men are very knowledgeable and personable and keep you engage with stories about the wildlife in Juneau and particularly the whales. It's obvious they love what they do and know the whales very well. Secondly, this boat, the Scania, only takes 9 passengers. So you have a very personal experience. Also the tour is 3 1/2 hours long, which I think might be longer than most of the other ones. We were actually out nearly 4 hours, because we found a group of whales Bubblenet Feeding, which was a little early in the season. I'm so glad we went with this company. We saw other boats out there that were 2 decks and had dozens and dozens of passengers, all crowded on the railings to see. We had plenty of space and moved around as we wished, and visited a little with the other passengers. I admit, I don't know how their price compares with the other companies. Once I found out it was a small boat, I chose them. And I'm so glad I did!

We highly recommend booking the Scania Yacht independently when you are cruising the Inside Passage in Alaska. Juneau is THE place to Whale Watch. Our party of four booked with Adventures in Alaska (Captain Jack and his son-in-law, Alan) 4 months prior to our voyage on the Grand Princess which docked at Juneau on July 2, 2014. The Scania only holds 9 passengers, has a fully functional "head"/ restroom and provides sodas, water and Captain Jack's famous salmon spread on Ritz crackers. We followed a pod of three humpbacks for a while and then happened upon a pod of 12-14 engaged in bubble-net feeding. It was too early in the season for this, per Captain Alan so we took that as a sign of our good fortune. Alan was conscientious about our safety and even stopped to retrieve my Masters ball cap that had been caught by the wind. Bring a big lens and get ready to shoot a lot of photos. This trip will be the highlight of your cruise.

PRO TIP: only book if you want to see whales with the best guide in Juneau ;-) Never have I experienced such a unique, personal, and unforgettable tour before. Captain Allan was not only incredibly knowledgeable but also kind, helpful, and hospitable. Our whale sightings were plentiful and impressive. It's hard to put into words just how moving these mammals are when you see them in the water. The way they methodically and gracefully maneuver themselves is admirable. The same can be said for Captain Allan with the way he was able to follow, sight, and respect these whales.

I can't recommend the the Scania and Capt Alan enough. This is a small catamaran that is extremely stable and has both outdoor and inside seating. We have been whale watching with Capt Alan 3 times now over the last few years and it it's always the highlight of our cruise to Alaska. We've always seen whales, up close and personal. We've been on the big boats (100+ passengers) and there's no way you have good visibility for seeing the whales-unless you're the 6'4" guy blocking the window.
