Phenomenal restaurant and a rare gem. We did the four-course tasting menu and loved every second of it, with each dish showcasing some of the best Malaysian cooking I’ve had in San Francisco. While we didn’t have any dietary restrictions, the staff was proactive and asked us up front, and I noticed each dish had a vegetarian option.

Please note, the restaurant’s in a slightly rougher part of the Tenderloin, so I recommend taking a ride share to and from the spot if you’re arriving solo or not comfortable walking through the area.

I'm not going to write too much about food because I think it's borderline just pointless to describe food in words.

I'm convinced that if there were 1000 more Azalinas in SF, this would be the greatest city on earth.

After my meal, I had the privilege of speaking with Chef Azalina for two hours. She shared fascinating stories about her relationship with food, the inspirations behind each course, and her experience as a restaurant owner in the Tenderloin. Her passion for culinary arts and dedication to her community were obvious.

Chef Azalina also opened up about the challenges of operating in the Tenderloin. Many potential patrons unfairly dismiss her restaurant due to its location, overlooking the exceptional culinary experience it offers. Despite this, she remains committed to her vision and to making a positive impact in the neighborhood. Her presence has contributed to the neighborhood's revitalization, demonstrating how a restaurant can be a force for community improvement.

Azalina offers not just a meal, but an experience that combines culinary excellence with personal passion and community engagement. 1. The menu structure was weak. It was not clear the price of the 2 course or 4 course tasting menu on the menu itself. Not to mention the wine pairings were there but there was no price for the 2/4 course meal with wine pairing. But that the 20% service charge included was marked on the menu. It seemed a cheap way to guarantee lack of commitment. What’s more annoying is finally when ready to order, my father wanted a two course, and I the four; the waitress said this is impossible. Had I made two single reservations for individuals this would have though? That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard.

2. The server was friendly, but I cannot say the same about the waitress with 100% certainty therefore, I will not. I did not find her honest to the core and personal skills in this profession are of high importance. Not to mention her lack of skill in service etiquette. When we got up to leave she walked away as if not to see us and after we were at the door nonchalantly thanked us by calling to us while she was leaving another customer instead of taking a hair of time to give thanks graciously. For these prices I think a little respect is not much to ask. Especially when as tourists we walked to your restaurant where people within almost a one mile radius on the streets we’re shooting up/on drugs, and homeless littered the streets. In addition, after saying I have an aversion to sweet foods the waitress “accommodated” by arranging to serve me the jicama dish which had sugar in it. After asked about how it tasted, I got a laugh.

3. To sell a menu item as ribeye but not to include the bone is highly professional and transparency and honest both miss the mark since we can’t see the cut on our plate as paying customers.

4. On the flip side of the coin the fusion of flavors were delicious. But to be fair I’ve never been to Malaysia so i cant comment on thé authenticity of the Food.

I felt really uncomfortable as a customer:
-with the lack of transparency on the menu/pricing; but also lack of transparency in terms of the 2/4 course synchronization with my reservation. That was ridiculous.
-the lousy/impoverished neighborhood demonstrating social collapse
-the service

In rather a rough area so we were surprised by the location. Once we walked through the door though we were transported to a different world. The decoration reminded of Peranakan homes I have seen in Singapore.
You need to reserve in advance and decide if you are going with fixed 2 or 4 course meal. This is not your typical Malaysian nor Straits style food. Truly amazing and by end of the meal you will be full!
Wish I could have had seconds of the trifle desert though!!
On the pricey side as with drinks looking at >$120 per person.

Went to Azalina's for my 1-year anniversary, and they made it such a special night! We had the 4-course tasting that came with a wine/beer and a mocktail. Everything was very flexible and delicious. The beef cheek was amazing, and I've always thought it's an underrated cut of meat. The portions were very hearty as well, and we were stuffed to the brim! Highly recommend.

Jag har trädnötsallergi. Det är inte allvarligt – så jag går inte in i anafylaktisk chock eller får en reaktion på korskontaminering eller spår av trädnötter. Men när det finns trädnötter i maten svullnar halsen och läpparna, och jag får en allergisk reaktion som är märkbar och obehaglig. När jag äter ute ser jag till att berätta för restaurangen att jag har allergi. Så när jag gjorde min bokning på Azalina’s såg jag till att notera allergin i min bokning, och att berätta för servitören – många gånger – att jag hade en allergi. 

Ändå fick jag en reaktion på huvudrätten. Detta efter att jag hade påmint servitrisen om min allergi, servitrisen hade faktiskt tagit huvudrätten tillbaka till köket för att se till att det inte fanns några trädnötter i skålen, och servitrisen hade bekräftat att hon hade kontrollerat med köket om trädnötter. 

Vad detta säger mig är att en av två saker är sant. Antingen lyssnade köket inte på de upprepade varningarna om min trädnötsallergi, eller så kunde de helt enkelt inte göra maten utan trädnötter. För att vara tydlig – jag vet inte vilket av dessa som är sant. Jag vet inte att kökspersonalen medvetet lagade maten i trädnötter trots varningarna om min allergi. Men resultatet är detsamma – och jag skulle inte rekommendera att någon med trädnötsallergi äter här. Vi begärde en vegetarisk meny. Middagen var fem rätter. Jag minns inte namnen på rätterna vi åt. Bland de olika rätterna ingick cashewnötter, ris, purjolök, svamp, kokos, tomater, gurka med mera, plus ett antal örter och kryddor i de olika rätterna. Efterrätt ingår frukt. Några av de livsmedel jag inte kunde uttala. Men uttal spelade ingen roll för jag kände smaken, och smaken var det enda som betydde något. Smakerna smälte samman briljant! Azalinas smak av Malaysia är extraordinär! Maten var enastående. Maten häpnade över mig. Det är en av de bästa måltiderna jag ätit. Och jag är glad att kunna säga att Servicen också var Välkomnande, vänlig, informativ, snabb, utmärkt. Jag skulle vilja äta där igen och ta med fler vänner. 

Problemet var faktureringen. I menyn längst ner står det att en avgift på 20 % för Service tillkommer. Inga problem där (och Servicen förtjänade otvivelaktigt 20 % eller mer). När jag sedan betalade sa jag att 20 % extra Service avgift som anges på menyn innebär att dricksen ingår, och restaurangen sa nej, Service avgiften är inte dricks. Jag har betalat för restaurangmåltider i USA sedan 1970-talet, och jag förstår alltid att dricksen är för Servicen. Att lägga till en Service charge (20 % här) och sedan säga att Service charge inte är dricks tycker jag är dubbelfakturering för Service. Att lägga till en avgift för Service och sedan säga att Service avgiften inte är dricks saknar tydlighet och öppenhet. Nästa dag mailade jag Azalina's för att be restaurangen att förklara skillnaden mellan en Service och dricks på Azalina's och att förklara varför dricks på Azalina's inte Gäst Service som det gör på andra restauranger i USA. Det är nästan två veckor sedan jag mejlade. Inget svar. Tystnad. En stor besvikelse.

Azalina lägger sitt hjärta och själ i en välbalanserad meny som hyllar hennes Mamak arv samt de kinesiska, indiska och malajiska smaker som gör det malaysiska köket så intressant. Varje bana exploderade med ren smak, och Azalina var på plats för att detaljera ingredienserna och tekniken. Vi älskade den fantasifulla mocktailmenyn också. Service, atmosfär och uppmärksamhet på detaljer var utmärkt. Rekommenderar starkt!

Azalinas är speciellt, eftersom det är upphöjd husmanskost, något jag älskar. Man kan säga att denna mamma & dotter operation drivs av kärlek till maten, kulturen och matgästerna. Varje rätt var utsökt kryddad och mängden mat var perfekt för mig. Det är svårt att välja en favorit, eftersom varje rätt hade sin egen karaktär och smakprofil. 

Service (dotter) var uppmärksam och vänlig. Kocken (mamma) besökte bordet för att kontrollera att allt var till vår belåtenhet. Du kände dig omhändertagen. 

De alkoholfria dryckerna var helt utsökta. Mitt enda klagomål är att hällen för vinparningen var på den blygsamma storleken. 

Priserna var okej och vi lämnade alla med en full mage, glad och redo för en god natts sömn. 

Kommer jag tillbaka? Absolut. Malaysisk mat är svårt att hitta och Azalina's är en njutning att inte missa. Tack för den trevliga kvällen!

Jag skriver denna recension med bävan - med sådana lovord kommer Azalinas att förvandlas från en personligt älskad bastion av Mamak köket, en underbart bara i Sf och sannolikt den enda i USA melange 
 av unikt läckra kryddsmaker som fann fusionen av tamilsk hakka och malajisk mat på Malaysias gator i en bekvämt avslappnad atmosfär till en internationellt känd och Instagrammed / globalt kritiserad Michelin-stjärna Iron cheffed Utube sensation , omöjlig att reservera och avsedd för ära? Låt oss hoppas inte på ett tag! 

Azalinas är en av de otroligt sällsynta platser där ödmjuk ambition möter kulinarisk briljans - kocken de cuisine, den självbetitlade Azalina verkar lyckligt omedveten om briljansen i hennes skapelser - hon fortsätter att växa och blomstra och är en San Francisco skatt. 

Interiören i utrymmet i en grov del av filén transporterar en till en bakgata i Malacka - servicen är underskattad och önskvärd att behaga - men kronan på verket är de spektakulära läckerheter som erbjuds - en månatlig föränderlig avsmakningsmeny till ett rimligt pris som innehåller det bästa av dessa unika smaker och kryddor med norra Kaliforniens färskaste ingredienser för att producera en så intressant och unik matupplevelse som man kan hitta någonstans på planeten. 

Blandningarna av kryddor och smaker slår i gommen och förvirrar och glädjer - jag ville äta mer och mer av vår första rätt , ett riff på en tomat Shorba som skulle förvåna de mest avtrubbade Bollywood gommarna i Mumbai och för oss medborgare i Bagdad by the Bay är verkligen tredje ögonöppningen . 

Vi har haft nöjet att se Azalina växa och mogna till en Mästerkock från ett Bondemarknadsbord till hennes restaurang i Noe dömd av pandemin till hennes tempel av unik och härlig mat i Tenderloin. Hon hämtar från lokala leverantörer som en 3: e generation allt kvinnligt fiske im Half Moon Bay och olika lokala ekologiska bönder z 

Gå medan du kan och njut av hennes månatliga nya menyer som anpassas efter vad som är lokalt och färskt och räkna dig lycklig att vårt San Francisco fortsätter att producera sådan excellens.

Vi är så glada att se Azalinas renässans - denna gång på en snäppet plats i Tenderloin. 
Inredningen är redolent av gamla Malaysia / väl utförda kvasi exteriör av ett block i Malacka kanske med de välbekanta träluckor och keramiska takpannor - 
Azalina är förmodligen den enda kocken av Mamak köket - unikt malaysiskt riff på tamilska köket från arbetarna som fördes av Raj till halvön som en del av deras söndra och erövra imperial politik på 1700- och 1800-talen - 
Med ovanliga kryddparningar och förening med några av de kinesiska och Bumiputra köket i Malaysia middag kommer att vara en fest för sinnena - visuellt fantastisk , och läckert glädjande gommen . Prix fixe menyn är rimligt prissatt för gourmet läckerheter som erbjuds . 

Azalina och hennes restaurang är en skatt att stödja och vårda eftersom hennes färdigheter bara verkar blomstra med tiden

Gick på middag med flera vänner och hade en fantastisk tid. Jag har ätit här två gånger tidigare och otaliga gånger på Azalina tidigare platser och servicepersonalen var vänlig och uppmärksam som alltid, men vad som verkligen lockar mig att besöka denna restauranger är de unika smakstilar och kombinationer. Förrätten med en Dosa-våffla och grillad bläckfisk över en currysås var en perfekt blandning av konsistens och smak. Huvudrätten var en mycket balanserad och vackert presenterad Ribeye i en husgjord sås med rött ris och broccoli spigarello som fick mig att överväga att försöka beställa mer att gå. Jag ger denna erfarenhet en 5/5 och kommer tillbaka!

Vi åkte till Mahila vid 1320 Castro, samma kock / ägare som Azalinas men tydligen mer sitta ner och med en helt annan meny. Det är ett mycket attraktivt rum, bord nära varandra, den enda nackdelen är buller - - det finns inte en mjuk yta i rummet och din, för äldre öron, är ganska dålig. Bra att maten (och tjänsten) var utmärkt.

Detta är uppenbarligen en underuppsättning av malaysisk mat, som kommer från en viss etnisk grupp i landet, och de negativa kommentarerna i andra recensioner speglar förmodligen det faktum att detta inte är vad andra kan förvänta sig som "malaysisk". Bra jag hade inga förväntningar på vad det skulle vara, så jag kunde bara njuta av explosionen av delikata, skiktade smaker i varje maträtt. Vi hade en tripe sallad, tripe kokta skarpa och framträdde som en accent i en välsmakande gurka bas. Roti Murtabak var en underbar typ av lammpannkaka med en slev av en mild gurkmeja sås, och Duck Kurma var också utmärkt. Läckra cocktails (inte en väldigt utarbetad bar - bara grunderna), en blygsam öllista, viner både flaska och glas, den röda blandningen som vi beställde skulle gå perfekt med middagen. Publiken rensade tidigt på en söndagskveld och vi hade en härlig pratstund med ägaren i slutet, efter lite lika förtjusande chatt med kockens dotter - - en vänlig och trevlig plats med utmärkt mat. Värt omvägen.

Fantastisk mat med olika blandningar av asiatisk smak. Rekommendera starkt om du vill prova något annat. Jag har varit i båda - Azalina's i Twitter-byggnad och Mahila i Noe Valley.

Jag bodde hos en vän i NEMA tvärs över gatan så beslutade att prova Azalina's till middag en natt. Beställde gurkmeja nudelsaksen och det var läckert!

Jag gick faktiskt till "Mahila by Azalina's" på 24th Street i Noe Valley - men det är samma ägare och otroliga smaker. Jag fick till och med prata med kocken personligen och lärde mig allt om hennes urval av smaker. Sötpotatis klimpar var fantastisk; torsken var ett smakfenomen; och ärligt talat vet jag inte ens vad jag åt till efterrätten, men jag skulle aldrig ha tänkt att pepparkorn på en pudding skulle fungera. . . men helig moly. . . OTROLIG! Jag kommer definitivt att gå tillbaka!

Vi båda beställde vegetariska rätter. Pumpkin Tofu Curry
Serveras med kokosnötris. Vegan, Glutenfri, Nutfri, Mjölkfri, Skaldjurfri, Äggfri. $ 12. 50 var stor. De serverar kötträtter också, och de såg frestande ut.

Inga stjärnor om möjligt. Vi är från Malaysia och besökte i juli 2018. Beställde Hokkien Mee och Laksa. Nudeln som användes i laksa såg speciell, två typer användes en klar och den andra såg och smakade som spagetti. Buljongen smakade inte som laksa. Hokkien mee smakade ingenting som Hokkien mee du skulle hitta i Malaysia. Kanske försökte chefen skapa fusionsdiskar för att göra disken mer tilltalande för de amerikanska konsumenterna? Rätterna var söta. Vi märkte också att det fanns en tagline Azalina's Handmade i SF. Vi undrade vad handgjordes? Var det nudlarna? Skulle inte rekommendera denna plats om du letar efter äkta Malaysia mat. Vi blev besvikna middag här.

Jag hade Laksa, som är en vacker blandning av gurkmeadnudlar, rostade och råa vegies i en citrongräsbuljong. Smakerna är känsliga och dröjer ett tag. Det bästa av malaysisk hemlagning med en ny vridning. Rekommenderad!

Jag såg fram emot en smak av malaysisk mat. Min dotter beställde Laksa och jag hade nasi lemak.

beviljas, det finns så många olika laksa, men det var inte ens nära vad vi brukar vara tillbaka i Singapore och Malaysia. Vårrulle med Laksa?

nasi lemak. . . . . biff rendang är bra. men riset smakar som om det bara kom ut ur frysen. Det serveras med någon slags grönsaker och gröna kryddiga saker.
Det skulle vara bättre om det bara serveras med gurkor, och enkel sambal eller chili.

Vi avslutade inte ens hälften av det.
