We stayed here for a week and enjoyed every minute of it.
The room was spacious although the bathroom very small.
Breakfast was included and there was so much variety. There was certainly something for everyone regardless of their diet.
The location was perfect, being one street back from the water.
There was a coffee shop located on the ground floor which sold essential items and also a 7 11 just around the corner for anything else you needed.
The staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome.
Would stay here again and recommend this hotel to anyone who is t sure where they want to stay.

My family and I stayed at the Riu Plaza Fisherman's Wharf from March 20th to March 22nd, 2025, in rooms 1121 and 1127. What was supposed to be a pleasant family trip turned into a nightmare.
Upon check-in, we were assured breakfast was included for our two rooms (two adults, two children, and a toddler). The next morning, however, the breakfast staff refused to seat us, claiming only one adult and one child were allowed. This was completely contradictory to what we were told.
The front desk then demanded proof of our family size, and when I couldn’t immediately provide it, I was subjected to a series of humiliating interactions. The front desk manager, Kathy, was incredibly rude and unprofessional. She laughed at me, mocked my concerns, and repeatedly implied I was incapable of understanding my reservation. She refused to acknowledge the hotel’s error and instead chose to belittle me.
To make matters worse, the restaurant staff openly pointed and laughed at us, creating an extremely uncomfortable atmosphere. When I brought this to Kathy’s attention, she dismissed my concerns with a complete lack of empathy and refused to intervene.
This entire experience was deeply distressing and embarrassing for my family. We felt humiliated and disrespected. The staff's behavior was appalling, and the management's response was completely unacceptable. I have recordings of these interactions, which clearly demonstrate the staff's unprofessional conduct.
I strongly advise anyone considering staying at the Riu Plaza Fisherman's Wharf to look elsewhere. The staff and management showed a complete disregard for customer service and basic human decency. This was by far the worst hotel experience I have ever had. I am beyond disappointed.
I am requesting a full refund for the breakfast charges and compensation for the ruined family vacation and I hope that Riu will take serious action to address the staff’s behavior and prevent similar incidents from happening to other guests.

We recently stayed at this Riu in our pathetic effort to visit them all (just 200 or so to go I think...). Anyway, from the moment we checked in we had amazing service. Instant room upgrade which I'd loved to have shown greater enthusiasm for but after an 11 hour flight plus the rest managed to crack a thank you (2 hours later I was crawling into bed). Thank you again though, that was great. I think it was just a balcony but that was nice. Staff were friendly with hellos here and there.
The room was big compared to what we're used to in Europe. The bed was an ocean and I drowned every night! Very comfy! First night poor sleep due to jet lag (too tired to sleep; always find that weird) but one of the rare occasions where I didn't mind. The water pressure was great in the shower however the toilet needs a much stronger flush and the basin tap (fosset as you call it) needs a much much higher pressure! I understand California has issues with water but I'll tell you now this is not useful. Coffee machine was good, I'd rather have proper mugs than paper cups but I get the practicality. We had a view of a bus depot which to most people is dreadful but luckily I like these and it's very handy for getting the bus; so use it!
Breakfast was great! We have visited cities like NYC and read reviews before visiting and even in March eating breakfast in hotels in NYC is an olympic sport for queueing etc. The reviews said the same here and it may be in peak season but when we visited it was very relaxed and nice. No queueing whatsoever! Great selection, typical for a Riu city hotel, but enough to keep you happy for a few days. Cold meats etc, to cereal and some pastries, to a 5 option warm selection I believe. I'd only ask that a few more pastries be available.
Location is fantastic! You are where you want to be in my opinion. Easy access to immediate tourist items such as Alcatraz and Pier 39. You have bike rentals all around you. You have the street cars and cable cars a few minutes away. And as mentioned a bus depot outside. Many others!
Last but by no means least, the backbone that is housekeeping! We have a test when we travel. We have a bear that travels everywhere with us. 'Candy' is an extremely and I mean extremely  and personally important stuffed bear to us (see picture with her own plane seat haha) and our test for good housekeeping is to see how they respond to Candy. Candy is left in the morning undertaking an activity (say tucked in bed and watching TV with snacks and a drink) and the game is for the housekeeper to follow-up that activity. As well as cleaning the housekeeper(s) did this and they are a credit to the hotel! In general Riu seems to have this game nailed! I love it!
Personal favourites - ice machines which Europe could really do with! The hotel has a vibe which Riu typically only places in their all-inclusive hotels which was nice. General location. The size of the bed!
Great stay and we will come back one day! If anything I just wish San Francisco wasn't so far away!

Stayed here during my trip to San Francisco. Staff were all very polite, friendly and willing to help at all times. Good breakfast service with plenty of tables during busy times - a rarity in many other US hotels.

Rooms were clean, comfortable and had a nice hot shower which I appreciate. Only issue which stops it being a 5 star is the noise, lots of noise from the streets outside, especially early in the morning. Also could hear the guests in other rooms easily, which was annoying.

Great hotel in a decent location, close to Pier 39, Alcatraz and other attractions.

I gave this a 3 star mainly because of the noise. We were woken up both morning of our stay at 4am with banging non stop outside. I believe they were loading or unloading something into the hotel? Anyways 4-6am non stop noises. Hard to sleep through that. Besides that, location was great! Breakfast buffet was awesome! The family enjoyed that. Beds were comfortable, staff was amazing. If I stay again, I’d want to be on the opposite side where the pool is probably.
