The decor and vibe are unique and the food is tasty. There aren’t any prices displayed and I told the guy it was my first time. I ordered a BBQ beef sandwich with a side of potato salad - see photo. You order at a counter, they plate your food on a tray, and seat yourself. The total for lunch was $25.65 plus tip. I came for lunch and didn’t drink, but the bar looks great!

I wanted to try something new, I always past by this place, so I finally tried it. They have a serving counter where they make your plate in front of you. I enjoyed the turkey sloppy Joe; I felt like I was back at Grandma's house. The interior is hip, I liked the decor. People had there children eating there too, so it is family friendly. Try something new!

Walking in Tommy's Joynt feels like walking into a corner neighborhood bar. You're senses are overwhelmed with the smell of smokes meats and jazz music.

We had a pastrami sandwich and a roast beef sandwich. The pastrami comes in two varieties - regular and tender - the tender being $2 more. I tasted both and they were both excellent so don't waste your money.

If you like hard rolls, then get the sourdough. If not, ask for bread or a softer roll. The meat portions were adequate and the meat was tasty. However, for the price, I  expect a bit more. There are also no toppings for the sandwiches, except cheese ($1.25) and lettuce ($0.25). For $12, it would be nice to at least include lettuce and onions and a side of coleslaw or potato salad. Beers were $7 for drafts.

This is an old building with no accessibility so if you are mobility-challenged I suggest eating elsewhere. The bathroom is up a narrow, steep stairway.

That said, the place is OK and if I am craving a pastrami sandwich in the future and I'm in the area, I would eat here again but get a larger portion.

This place is a classic in San Francisco. I tried the pastrami sandwich and the potato salad; both were good. I didn’t like the bread, but the employees are very friendly and kind. The place is old but has a good atmosphere. I’ll be back to try more of their menu.

I’ll be honest and admit I don’t come here super often now that I live in the East Bay. But I have been coming here for a long time. I was absolutely schooled when I was charged $23 before tax and before being asked for a tip on the tablet screen for a below averaged size pastrami sandwich. The pastrami itself was tasty. But the portion did not justify $23 before tax and tip. Not even close. I feel bad for restaurants in today’s economy and empathize with whoever owns this place. But I am now a former customer as this was a very tough pill (in the form of a sandwich) to swallow. Wishing you all the best.
