I've had positive experiences renting from Thrifty and Fox here, dependable rental vehicles at a super cheap rate (like $10 per day), all within the last year. Most recently, I rented from Thrifty (again), for a lil road trip to central cali this past weekend, and the rental process was just as easy. If you book and pay in advance and bring the necessary materials (ID and credit card), use your own insurance, fill up your own gas (simply refuse all the extras when you check in at the counter), and understand that they will place a deposit on your credit card (don't waste time arguing about this, even if it's $1000, because you will get this back later), the process should be quick and easy. The only wait you might encounter is a possible line to get to the front counter. This happens to each car company at some point, or during popular days/times, but I often see or experience no lines when I visit the rental car center. What's more, you can skip all that with the convenient option of checking in online, which I took advantage of for my recent Thrifty rental. I was able to check in a week in advance, and select my car online about 20 minutes before my rental start time, went straight to the garage the day of my rental and the keys were in my vehicle, so quick and easy, it was awesome! Returning vehicles is easy too... just follow the signs and arrows (as you circle the airport and enter the rental return garage), they email your receipt, and you take the garage elevators back to the rental car center lobby. Basically you just have to come prepared and you'll probably have a positive experience.

With no time to waste on our drive from Monterey to Norman Y Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC), the Rental Car Center at SJC didn't let us down. We made it to our gate with about 10, maybe 15, minutes to spare after initially misjudging the drivetime it took to get from Monterey to SJC (our mistake for not independently checking what the lady at the hotel front desk told us). Upon arriving at/near SJC property, the signs for Rental Cars were clear and easy to follow. We rented with Alamo, originating at Oakland International Airport's Rental Car Center. I had to drive up the ramp many times before I saw a sign for Alamo. I was almost afraid I wouldn't see one. The rental car drop-off was quick and easy, similar to other recent rental car drop-offs I've experienced, like at San Francisco International Airport. The staff here at SJC were polite and efficient. After dropping the car off, we headed straight for the elevators (again, signs clearly marked), down to the Rental Car Center lobby, through the lobby, and outside onto an awaiting shuttle to the airport. It was a quick and quiet early morning ride (still dark out) on the shuttle. The shuttle had comfy seats and plenty of storage space for luggage, including our carry-on roller bags. This was my first visit to the SJC Rental Car Center, having never seen it nor doing any research about it beforehand, and everything went smoothly.

They make this pretty easy. Not sure what others are complaining about, but the center is big and open, and easy to access. Heading away from the airport can be a bit confusing, but that is not the problem of the rental center - its the roads and signs to the south. I have rented here many times and never had any issues at all. The elevators are well designed, although the voice announcing the floors is annoying. That needs to be updated. Otherwise, easy! That is what we all want, right?

HAVE I EVER MENTIONED... Let me repeat... THE WORLD'S WORST ELEVATOR DESIGN PLAN. Eight elevator doors down the line. Push the button on the left end, and the most distant door far right opens. On your way to the door, it closes! It is an engineering marvel. Push the button. Run the distance. What dumb sh*t of an architect designed this and was rewarded for his/her thinking? Why didn't the architect's management team not catch this upon review? I proclaim my frustration aloud on every visit to the SJC rental car center.

I found the Rental Car Center at SJC to be very convenient the past 2 rentals I've had there. Once I landed and picked up a rental from OAK but returned it at SJC and flew out of there after a 49ers game. Another time, more recently, I rented and dropped off at SJC. I like that the Rental Car Center is just across the way from the Southwest Airlines terminal baggage claim. This makes it a quick turnaround from picking up my suitcase, crossing the crosswalk and up the elevator to your respective rental car company. I have Avis Preferred so that is located by itself on the 5th floor. Super convenient. You take the elevator up, go to the kiosk, sign some paperwork then you're on your way. Service from the lady at the Avis Preferred desk was friendly and she got us going to our destination quickly. I always have to do a little more paperwork than usual when picking up a rental because I add an additional driver. Pick up and returns was a breeze. Service was friendly. The small suv we were given was good on gas. Could have been a little cleaner but it was ok. We were just in town to catch a Niner game and they won HUGE. Good times.

The Car Rental Center is the best part of SJC San Jose International Airport. Despite of criticism with individual rental car companies in this building. It's absolutely necessary for car rental buildings to go vertical. Real estate is at a premium in the Bay Area. I believe this building has been here for awhile. I was here to experience this facility when I returned my car at Avis. Yup, not fond of my experience with Budget in the past, neither. However, this building holds a higher standard to serve every rental car well. My sister was waiting for me to return the car. She parked at the short term rental in the garage. It's nice they offer first 20 minutes being free. But car return takes 5 minutes to drive up that spiral case. Plus, another 5 minutes to get to check in and get a receipt. By the time I got into an elevator and walked across the huge lobby, we missed the free period. So trying to save $5 is not worth of hassles. Because it gives you for up to an hour to do whatever instead of hurry up.

At avis budget group there was no management on site, talked with employee and was told all managers were out drinking, one employee seen management employees taking shots before leaving in avis vehicle.

Worst car rental facility you will ever encounter. Had a rental with Thrifty. Went to the Thrifty desk and was told to go down to the Hertz counter. Went to the line and waited 30 min. When I got to the front, they told me that I needed to get in line at the Thrifty counter. Another 30 min wait. They have the most inept staff I have ever seen. You would do better renting off-site and taking an Uber to a location away from the airport. What a waste of time! They deserve 0 stars for being a bunch of morons

To start off I originally had my reservation at Fox car rental, so when I arrived the car rental center is conveniently across the street very easy to find, but the drama started when I arrived at Fix they told me Priceline overbooked their reservations and had no cars to give me, but not only that they had no cars they told me since my reservation was made less than 24hrs ago they couldn't help me, but if my reservation was more than 24hrs then they would rent me a car ridiculous. So Fox blamed Priceline and of course I contacted them and said go to another car rental company and we'll KIT. I went to every rental car company available and nobody had cars the only place that had cars was Sixt car rental, I had never heard of them before, but they had cars to rent and what a surprise when I found out that it's a European car rental company and all they have are luxury European brand cars I was excited to say the least & it was very reasonably priced. The service was quick, agent was polite, and very affordable, but upon returning the car it was a slow process short staffed, but in stead of standing in line with others that want to rent a car since I was returning there is a key drop off I spotted and dropped the keys in there or you can leave them in the car as one guy did, and eventually you get an email 2 days later that the car was returned and if you didn't fuel up they will do it for you at a price so it's best to fill it up yourself if you can. Needless to say Sixt is my new go to car rental company, because they saved me or I would have been stuck in san Jose when I needed to get to Monterrey thank you Sixt & thank you agent Chardonnay D, who helped me a job well done.

I'm a fan of the SJC Rental Car Center. It's conveniently located directly across Terminal B. It's new, organized and very efficiently organized. I was able to come in, pick up my car and be on the road in less than 20 minutes with a human cashier not their computerized self-check out kiosks. When I came back to return the car, it was pretty much the same process. Thanks SJC Rental Car Center for providing excellent service and a reliable car (Alitma) that was efficient on gas and relatively inexpensive. When I come back to the area, I will not hesitate to use their facility and services.
