The Hedley club has re-opened as of May 22, 2025. They are open Tuesday-Saturday, and host live jazz on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. On 5/22/2025, the Roger Glenn quartet performed.

The Hedley Club is a diamond in the rough. It is still an amazingly beautiful venue and reopened after having new hotel owners. I went there on a Friday night and sadly the venue is only a shell of its former self. I heard it had reopened and tried to find information online. The first search result is the Yelp page that says it is closed (I messaged Yelp to fix). Then I found a Facebook page which hasn't been updated since 2019 (apparently the new owners don't have access to the page from the old owners). But Instagram shows that there is some life to the venue. Then I try to call to get more details. I kid you not, I tried 5 phone numbers and finally got in contact with someone at the hotel who didn't seem to know much about the club or music schedule but assured me it was open. I asked about food and they were a big cagey but said there are "bites" available. I then made my plan to visit. First impressions are important and the hotel front door is locked. I was able to make eye contact with the front desk in the distance and they noted I needed to use my hotel key card to open the door -- not helpful if you don't have a card since I wasn't staying in the hotel. In absence of any sign, one has to figure out only the side door on Notre Dame Avenue is open. The Hedley Club is still there like a time capsule but without life and few signs of activity (maybe jazz nights Tuesday and Thursday are more lively). I arrived as the only patron besides a person at the bar staring lifelessly at a TV playing a random sports game . Back in the day the bar was one of the best in San Jose for the quality of drinks and service. Sadly this was not the case when I visited. Service was ok but I ordered a standard bar stable a mojito and it arrived as a sour lime concoction. I should have returned it but I was enjoying a conversation with friends. I decided to stick to beer for my next drink. I cheerfully received the beer in an unopened can -- like I was in some quaint honky tonk bar on the bayou. After seeing my disappointed face, the bartender offered a glass. I opened my beer and poured it myself. Not to drink on an empty stomach, I inquired as to the "bites" and they I was told they only have food on Tuesday and Thursdays. This seemed so random but it aligns with the jazz nights. Disappointing. A DJ was setting up for 8 pm music but I left before then. I'll visit again for a jazz night but at this point I would say it is a beautiful place to visit but stick to the menu cocktails or beer. Check out the beautiful patio as well for a different vibe. The hotel could considerably improve the experience by either keeping the front door open like before or adding a sign to indicate only the side door is open without a key card. Also having a dedicated club webpage that clearly and accurately describes the state of the club. The best webpage is the hotel de Anza website at this point. Instagram is the best option for information. They need to improve their bartending game -- especially on a weekend night if they want any hope of success. Some sort of food which be appreciated but the hotel restaurant is still closed and I don't know if there is any kitchen for the hotel. I would think Fridays and Saturdays would be prime days for live jazz music and revenue but we will have to wait for that.

Second stop of the night here in downtown San Jose. The ambiance and vibe here tonight is awesome. Will definitely be back. Live down the street.

Disappointed. TRIED to experience the club during a recent stay at the host hotel. No music, despite website promoting the same, as well as the reviews on Yelp. The bar itself was not even open on the Saturday night of our stay. No sign, no "private event"...nothing.

The Hedley Club does not care about the musicians who play for them, because the club doesn't bother to maintain a music calendar online. Why? How do you expect to draw people in? Not listing who is playing obviously hurts the musicians (hey manager -- ever hear about a tip jar?) and it hurts the bartenders and servers too. And what about the customers? Hedley Club, you've got a beautiful lounge. Why don't you try to fill it?

The best jazz lounge in San Jose, the Hedley Club is located at the back of the Anza hotel and adjacent to a not less beautiful patio. Every single thing there is exquisite. Check the ceiling. So much detail in the paints and the whole ensemble is very classy. You don't need to have anything to do with the hotel in order to access the club, and i noticed talking to people that is a total hidden gem not so known in San Jose. So do not miss a chance to attend one of their jazz nights free events, have a drink and get some Art Deco style to transport you to another era. Check that patio as well, it is just wonderful for gatherings or have a drink solo by those tiled fountains.

The South Bay really needs a decent jazz lounge and the Hedley Club Lounge suits that need! My boyfriend and I went here on our last date night before he left (long distance sucks!) and shockingly, it was pretty empty! We went at around 9pm and there were only 3 other people there. The drinks aren't as cheap as I would have liked but this lounge is inside a hotel so it makes sense. Lagavulin is about $20 which is normal I think. But the real highlight was the jazz band! I can't remember their name but it sounds like they frequent this spot. They were a fun group of sweet older guys just having a great time. They played both popular and more obscure songs. I would definitely go back here for a nice night out with my significant other and everyone should check this place out!

The perfect lounge for a relaxing evening. I've come here on multiple Wednesday evenings when they have a live jazz band playing and I find myself refusing to leave because of the lovely ambiance. If you love listening to Jazz or unique artists, this is your spot! You might want to check their website for when they have live musicians playing. Even when there is no live band playing, they have the music in the background that creates the perfect atmosphere to eat, drink a glass of wine and have a nice conversation. The waiters are absolutely phenomenal. They do a great job attending to everyone in the room. They have a good enough wine and mixed drinks selection. This is one of my favorite lounges in the Bay Area. I highly recommend it!
