Santa Clara University has hired a horrible catering service, Bon Appetit. Between finding hairs throughout many dishes, meat being uncooked, and BUGS in the food, Benson Marketplace is literally inedible. It is a shame Santa Clara University makes all on-campus students pay thousands of dollars for a meal plan that goes to complete waste. Many students have gotten food poisoning and felt ill after eating there. Unfortunately, they refuse to allow students to use their dining points at local grocery stores, preventing the opportunity to purchase their own food. This money goes to waste and the university just profits. Do better please!

While it may be run by a place that used to supply the food at Google, this is not Google food. For college food, it isn't bad, it gets the job done. There's a variety of foods here, ergo most of it is Americanized, despite its attempts to be global. La Parilla is Mexican (10/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND, I always get food poisoning), The Bistro serves different specials for lunch/dinner (Tuesday lunches are sushi rolls!), the Marketplace has customizable salad bar, which is connected to Saute which can make rice and noodles with different sauces and proteins. My favorite probably is the sandwich bar connected to the California Deli (premade sandwiches), I love their chicken and egg salads!

Ok so this place looks like some sweet ass place now, nothing like when I was a student. They are really working on getting all organic and all farm to table food so that is awesome. Granted, the prices are pretty high but it works for those of us working at or going to school at Santa Clara University . The Bon Apetit staff are all very friendly and they do their job quickly so no one has to wait too long to get their food. There are a variety of stations so that you can get nearly anything you are in the mood for. Pasta, they have it... A salad bar, they have that too! Want a burrito, pizza, sandwich, sushi, soup, stir fry... yep, they have that as well!

Just the standard college cafeteria to grab some food. At peak hours it's a little slow but if you want a sandwich from the "deli" section, it's just grab and go. The pastas are made on the spot and customized to your liking. (Regular or whole wheat pasta, sausage, steak, chicken, add veggies, type of sauce, etc) One bowl is around $8-9. The La Parrilla sells grilled and fried items. Chicken tenders, a classic burger, grilled cheese, fries, etc... Around $7-10.

Oh benson, where should I begin? While this place is better than average college food and does have some things going for it, there are many things about the place itself that could be improved upon. The pros: Definitely the staff is one of the biggest highlights of this establishment. Démon and "Snoop Dogg" never fail to crack me up, and Cecelia is just the nicest. Compared to some other colleges, I hear the food isn't bad. Especially considering that this company used to supply food for google. That being said, there are plenty improvements to be made. The bad: one of the bad things about benson is the amount of oil used in the food. Especially in la parilla. After eating one of their breakfast burritos, Mount Vesuvius erupted out of my anus. Sometimes the burgers could use less oil as well. Their Asian food is a hit or miss. Some things like the ramen were terrible while the Indian isn't too bad. Overall benson is mediocre. Not too bad but could use improvement.

The Mediterranean bowl was so satisfying. The portion of meat was so big I didn't think it would even fit. It was pretty dry, luckily there was enough sauce that it was still very moist and I was able to enjoy it. The cherry tomatoes were great and squirted with flavor! The cucumbers were also very impressive and looked like they packed a punch. I definitely see why the upperclassmen boys still frequent benson! The new interior design is so classy that it feels like a place I could even take my daddy to.
