Check out this cute local Saratoga Civic Theater in The Bay Area! Immerse yourself in art, theater, and entertainment! I came here for the spectacular musical No, No, Nanette. The theater building is old, small, charming, and fully equipped with air conditioning. There are three women bathrooms and one men bathroom. There are plenty of parking spaces. Enjoy!

Most of the shows here are very good, great artists, costumes n music, well done. Theater is very cozy, no bad seats. Hope to seee more shows in the future.

Although small and quaint, SCT gets the job done. For a fraction of the cost of a broadway show in NYC, SF, or LA, you not only get a good seat and free parking, the South Bay Musical Theatre is top notch. Recently, I saw A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder. The cast members must be strong singers to pull this show off and they were. Having seen this musical in NYC, I was impressed with SBMT's production and will most definitely look forward to seeing more. Caveats: 1) if you need handicap or parking that's close to the entrance, get there early as there are limited spaces, and 2) there's only one small restroom for the ladies. Snacks/Beverages are sold in the lobby during intermission and blankets are available for guests who are cold.

Light Opera in Saratoga? We went to see West Valley Light Opera's "Footloose" playing at the Saratoga Civic Theater. Took the Saratoga exit off of highway 85, driving toward the mountains, but missed a left turn onto Fruitvale Ave, going to the Saratoga Library instead. Fortunately it was still daylight, and we were able to make the correction, despite not having GPS in my 1998 Honda Civic sedan. Beautiful park like setting, with plenty of parking right next to the theater, and the USPS parking lot across the street should the theater lot be full. I back into a parking space, nose out, for quick getaways in crowded venues. I'm in shorts and thin white crisscross strap Birkenstock sandals, one of the very few men in shorts, despite the summer weather -older crowd here in Saratoga, despite the youthful topic of the play. Black bars like at the zoo on the box office for will call tickets -you know this theater was built before they used shatter proof plexi glass! Sign on the wall says capacity 346 occupants, and yes it is a small theater -two aisles, two side sections of 7 seats each row , and a center section of 13 seats each row, and 15 rows. Staggered seating, so that you are looking between two people at the stage, with a gentle slope downwards toward the front. Clocks on both walls. We get assigned near the back center, with a decent view even way in the back. And air conditioned! Shows starts right on time, despite the fact that the elderly lady next to me has a difficult time getting to her seat with a walking cane. Easier to get in, then get up and get out! I know I'm going to have to go the other way at intermission. The show is composed mainly of local actors, who have played only in theaters in the Bay Area outside of San Francisco and San Jose, and under contract with WVLO. Stage has lots of changes in sets and colorful costumes. Decent vocals through the speakers. Intermission time, the wife races for the bathroom, but is held up by more senior folks trying to get out of their seats. One men's bathroom with 1 urinal and 1 toilet, and one women's bathroom with 2 toilets. Two unisex single use unisex bathrooms. So 6 toilets for up to 346 guests, or one toilet for every 58 people. Not up to airline standards, let alone army standards, and there is a line out both the women's and men's bathrooms. Concession stand with everything $2, including 2 ounce candy bars, and warm soda poured from1 liter plastic bottles, without ice, into 4 ounce plastic cups. No popcorn, no hot food, and no beer -guess they didn't want to go to the trouble of getting a license to serve alcohol! Screen on the back of the venue with the conductor leading a tiny orchestra of 7 players, who are invisible -not sure if they are underneath or behind the stage. Play ends with the audience getting a chance to greet the performers outdoors, but we scramble to get ahead of the crowd, get in our car, and are among the first out of the parking lot, without hitting anyone of the slow moving guests. Tough rating this theater, when I've just returned from New York city and seen 3 Broadway plays. No question of value: purchased two tickets through Goldstar for $48 total. Can't beat that at San Jose Center for Performing Arts, let alone Broadway! But then again, it's a misnomer to call this light opera, let alone opera!

Today, my family (I, my husband, our son and daughter) went to watch "Thoroughly Modern Millie". Watching its promotional video, I noticed that I enjoy the costumes of 1920s, excellent decorations, fancy hair style when women were bobbing their hair, and raising their hemlines. I enjoy a lot of dancing flappers, dashing leading men, and overall madcap merriment. The choreography produced the highly level performance. Every movement, every position matters. Many specific postures are masterpieces. The entire performance is marvelous. I was laughing listening "Forget About the Boy". Watching the performance of the song "I Turned the Corner", both actors show they are very far from the ears, 20 floors away. Listening "Gimme, Gimme" with the toe-tapping title tune was also funny.

Recently came to Saratoga Civic Center for the 1st time to see a friend acting in - THE BELLS ARE RINGING....a comedy about an answering messaging service girl who's taken a personal interest in helping out the lives of her customers & her sneaky ways to help them realize their dreams Very small venue but I've been to smaller - views were partially obstructed by the row in front but could duck around; sound was really quiet to the point there were times we couldn't hear the actors & they were all wearing microphones - pump up the volume please! Seats were comfy but it got really hot in the venue since you're sitting almost shoulder to shoulder to your neighbor. Be sure to wear layers so you can peel off as necessary Staff was really nice & refreshments were ONLY $1!!! This is the best deal you'll find ANYWHERE! Props for not gouging your patrons!!! Would certainly come back to this venue to see other local Theater & combined w/ the FREE PARKING, have to say this venue was A-OK!

I visited the Saratoga Civic Theater for the first time this weekend, to see WVLO's production of "The Drowsy Chaperone." This is honestly one of the smallest theaters I've ever been to; most junior highs will have a larger auditorium. (Albeit, most junior high auditoriums will be much more run-down, thanks to our decreasing public school budgets and increasing punk kids). Appropriately, the stage and lighting were all very well done at the Saratoga Civic Theater; so, despite the "cozy" setting, it didn't feel like a low-rent production - maybe "exclusive" would be a better description! Parking was free and plentiful! They had a table set up in the lobby selling refreshments before the show, but food and drink was not allowed inside the actual theater. The show was great, and most of the cast came to mingle in the lobby after the show.

I attended the WVLO production of 42nd Street last night and I was just blown away by the talent onstage and the BIG production I saw on such a small stage. I'll forever be amazed by how much talent there is in our community -- singers, dancers, artists, you name it. From the moment the curtain opened to the final bow, I was smiling so big. Shoutout to the enthusiastic and talented cast! The standout to me was the lady who played the role of Dorothy Brock (Annmarie Martin). A genuine talent. Her voice and stage presence is flat out Broadway quality. Her performance alone is worthy every penny. I also enjoyed the actor playing Julian Marsh (Bob Visini) and the actress playing Maggie Jones (Molly Thornton). All three lent such gravitas to the production. Really just superb. Kudos again to the fantastic ensemble. Jonathan Campos as Billy Lawler was especially effective in the "Dames" number. Very charming!

I've seen three shows here. All three were well produced and entertaining. My one gripe with SCT is the bathroom situation. I know it's a relatively small venue but there simply isn't enough bathrooms so accommodate everyone. Unless you get in line at the start of intermission, you'll be late getting back in. 3.5 stars.

Just went with my girlfriends to see Spamalot this afternoon. The play was hilarious and the actors were fantastic. Such great talent we are blessed with in the South Bay. I would highly recommend everyone to go and see this fun production. The Theater is small, intimate and very comfortable. Plenty of parking and easy in and out.
