The store has an inside office that Cashes checks and you can send money out of country. You can send a lot of money but recipients can only take out $50k pesos per month. Chavez will charge $2 per thousand American dollars sent.

Groceries are expensive here. Bought marinated carne last weekend. $16.99 a pound. Popped it in the air fryer and cut it up for taco night. Very good flavor! Will be back for more.

The Mrs. The Little One and I recently attended my nieces birthday party. My brother ordered catering from Chavez Supermarket for her birthday party, and unfortunately, the experience was far from satisfactory. Here are the details: Communication Failure: The initial order was canceled without any notification. He ordered for it to be delivered via ChowNow and ChowNow informed him the food was never made. This lack of communication caused unnecessary stress and inconvenience. Late Delivery: Despite giving them another chance, the second attempt was also late--approximately three hours after the scheduled delivery time. We ended up ordering from another catering business instead who prepared food at the last minute and far earlier than the food that was promised to "make up" for the initial unannounced cancellation. This delay disrupted the party, leaving everyone hungry and upset. Parents with children left before the new food arrived, hungry and upset, and with crying children throwing tantrums to boot. Missing Order: To make matters worse, my brother confirmed that not only did the order not arrive, someone from their business contacted him and tried to claim that he never picked it up. Overall, I cannot recommend Chavez Supermarket and their food for a party like this. Their lack of professionalism and poor execution significantly impacted what could have been a wonderful celebration. Although my reviews are usually accompanied with food pictures, obviously, I have none here because the food never arrived!

I 'm impressed and think Chavez Supermarket is good. From walking and observing the entrance. I was greeted by a security officer. This is the first for me to experience. This just tells me hold your wallets and belongings lol!!! But in a serious tip. I can make a list of all the Mexican supermarkets where the meat department sucks, but this isn't one of them. Food is always super fresh. I will someday buy my meat products here. All staff is very welcoming and helpful. I super recommend the taqueria. Food is delicious and fresh made, and clean. As a transplant from Texas, finding an "authentic Mexican" food that hasn't been completely desecrated with Cal influences (think: alfalfa sprouts and fennel tacos), can be a challenge. At Chavez Taqueria, you can be sure to find all your favorite meats (al pastor, carnitas, Chile verde, lengua) ready to be stuffed in a tortilla with some good refried beans. Is it cheap? Hell no, this is still California and a burrito will be $18 before adding cheese and toppings. If you're asking if the meats are cheap, then maybe yes but they are marinated and flavorful and the salsas are HOT (spicy, not temp). I can't speak to the catering but honestly they are not a full restaurant, and I just wouldn't. It would be like asking 7-11 to cater a hot dot cotillion. The market also has some decent pan dulce, a wide meat counter (try the marinated pollo en adobo for the next BBQ), fresh produce including hard to find ingredients, and some Mexican staples like great tortillas, Bimbo treats, candy, Jumex, and other diabetic nightmare products. I must stress that this is a place for Mexicans and not lily white explorers out sampling la vida loco for an Insta reel (try the Mexican endcap in a San Jose Target).

I bought menudo to cook open the bag The smell was bad I threw it in the garbage. I couldn't stand the smell. It was rottenow I'm having a hard time getting my money back. That's the worst store. You can go to I'm very disappointed.I know the owners since 1960"s Stores In redwood city The original stores are good Very disappointed. I can get my money back. I have the receipt still. My friends took me here for lunch. The Taqueria is in the back, on the far right. I had a Quesadilla con lengua. It was outstanding. It was one of those meals where I wasn't interested in talking. I just wanted to savor the food, it was so good. I most definitely want to go back. The service was also very good. They will ask you what extras you want on your food and you can easily point it out. Also, the lengua wasn't on the menu but we asked for it and it was right there. So if you want a certain meat and don't see it on the menu, make sure to ask anyway. The market isn't well suited for staying and eating. The only seats are out side and if it's raining, there's no coverage. We were lucky and it wasn't raining and the temperature was nice. So we ate outside the market. The market is one of those smaller independent types I like. It's well stocked and has plenty of room to move around. Some of those small markets can get cramped. The parking lot has plenty of spaces. Also the market is in a nice area.
