Small, run-down, sports themed (?) Puerto Rican restaurant at the end of Pratt street. The menu here is very simple, as it merely consists of a variety of sandwiches, mofongo's, and over-the-top frappes The place is kind of falling apart, and it is counter-service, but when I came with my GF they still told us where to sit (which was especially interesting because there was practically no one else in the place) I got a chicken sandwich and it was solid, but it left an awful aftertaste in my mouth. My GF got a mofongo, but she was not a fan as it was doused in cheese and other sauces

Spectacular sandwiches! We stumbled across this place because where we wanted to go was packed. What a great opportunity for us. The sandwiches were tasty and excellent! It was a great place to stop before seeing a game or a concert. Walk on in and enjoy!

Before we break off into this review, just know that the operating time for this location is wrong on both Yelp and Google. They are NOT open everyday for they are closed on Mondays (as I quickly found out upon my initial arrival) and they open after 11. With that said, let us begin. I started with their Canoes, which is basically a sweet plantain filled with some beef action, shredded cheese, oregano, pepper, garlic and Sazon. Off the top, the initial bite was a flavor packed action movie that set my tastebuds ablaze in a good way. The beef was amazingly seasoned and though I am not a major fan of plantains, the slight sweetness was a perfect added flare within the flavor of the plantain itself that really complemented this canoes; through and through. I was also curious about their, "El Poeta Special" sandwich, which is a meat filled mini monstrosity of glee. Ham, Turkey, Salami and Mortadella (which is basically a large Italian sausage that is made of finely hashed or ground heat-cured pork) and Family, let me tell you that the first bite of this sandwich had so much flavor happening and I was impressed how it wasn't ridden with a salty flavor at all but you did receive a nice smokey flavor profile with the variations of meat on this one. It was hearty on the bite and the addition of mayo and ketchup added for a nice tang on the after kick here. Though the turkey bite is drowned out a bit, you will enjoy each bite and with the addition of a thin bread used to hold this sandwich together, it is pressed and grilled added a great crunch mouth feel. I did not stop there! I also went with their Pastrami Sandwich and this is where the game changed up a bit. Still with the great thin bread but the pastrami came with a stronger salt flex on the bite and here, the addition of ketchup and mayo did not work. The only condiment strong enough to cut through and balance out the saltiness would had been some mustard and it could make all the difference to add some diced up grilled onions to this one. The pastrami itself was loaded on this pressed sandwich but with those small changes, I think it would had been just as good as the El Poeta Special! Yes, there will be a wait! This is not one of those "quick to-go" restaurants. Everything is made to order and so expecting to wait for at least 25 minutes if you are the only person there, makes sense but if they have a line of folks awaiting their order, do expect to wait a little longer. Also, speaking Spanish definitely helps for the ladies behind the counter will speak some English but it helped that I brought my boy along that could translate my order with ease. Oh, I almost forgot that I had ordered some, "Pollo Frito Solo" which are fried tenders with some of their Mayo/Ketchup dipping sauce on the side. They too came out nice and hot! Crispy white meat pieces that were rather juicy too and dipping them within the sauce added some great flavor. Ok, now I am done ;-)

While the food is good . The cook or owner told me she didn't like me standing watching her . I just spent $ 210.00 in her store . Rude and order took 1 hour . Too bad she had a attitude. Yesterday the word for the year was WOMAN . She will never make it with an attitude. PR attitude in business is a disaster in the making .

So new places like this are always tough to review. They're still working out their kinks. It could be that in a month, things change. For now, this place has, what we call, potential. It is the outpost of a popular Park St. sandwich place and no doubt Puerto Rico is on the mind. There are popular PR dishes like Mofongo on here but it seems they are concentrating on two big things: Shakes and Sandwiches. And what sandwiches these are. Huge footlong ones layered with meat. No wonder the prices are high. You could share them with three of your friends. I ordered the Five Star sandwich. I wasn't quite sure what to make of it first. It was a bit messy to pick up; the bread crust, which had been warmed, started to crumble a bit. But as I ate more of it, I enjoyed the flavors of the different meat in there. The surprise to me was the fried potato stuffed with meat as an appetizer. It was a bit like a Knish with meat that you might get on the street in NYC but in a crispy circular ball. Either way, it was delish. Service was slow; far too slow for a lunch crowd. Shouldn't take nearly 20 minutes to get a sandwich for the slow start up crowd they had. Inside, was a nice fresh up of the Gyro and Kebab place that I enjoyed here previously (and certainly the coffee place before that). BUT here's something they have to fix ASAP: PUT PRICES ON YOUR MENU. 'Nuff said.

Delicious food, great music and good service. It be wise to order ahead. Place gets crowded and the wait is long but the taste is on point! I wish I had space for a frappe! They look delicious! I will be returning!

Very poor service Maria Cruz was very rude and made us feel uncomfortable and food was very over priced I paid 24.50$ for 4 empanadas which is insane i am very upset and disappointed in the way I was treated

So, I was excited to give this place a try for the first time. I walk in at about 12:35 and start looking at the menu on the wall for a good 4 minutes. There's 2-3 people at the counter. I then tell one of them, ok I'm ready to order. Her reply was, sorry we're not opened yet. First, there's no sign at the door saying it was closed. Second, the door was opened. Third, is everyone a mute in that place, no one says anything. C'mon people, it's about 12:40 something now and you're in downtown Hartford and you're not opened yet??!! Best of luck to you guys.

The menu does not mention the prices, which is surprising. And everything was a lot more expensive than I thought it would have been. Portion size is huge though. Anything you buy here can easily fill 2 people. So if you are 2 people, or want to take the left over for later, then the prices end up reasonable. I went with the downtown sandwich, as they said that is their bestseller, which cost around $13. Portion size was for 2 people. I cannot complain about the taste. Ferrero rocher frappe was above 6$. And the portion size of that was also huge. If you like ferrero rocher, you will like it. It is not milkshake or ice cream though.
