I played the "flat 9" north course three times in the past few weeks and thought it was a great place to start my return to the game. Some of the holes are quite challenging, with only a narrow window to the fairway. No sand or water to worry about. I played the front 9 of the south course this morning and found it in great condition. There are some "ground under repair" spots here and there, but the fairways, greens, fringes, and roughs are all in beautiful condition. Prices are very reasonable. For a senior* who walks and carries his bag, it was only $14 for 9 holes. *Note: the date of birth on my driver's license indicates I am a senior... my brain vehemently disagrees!!!

No comment on the golf course itself. This review is for anyone who might be planning to run the Star Marathon series, held at this location. The golf course offers nice views and the path is an easy one to follow. It's very hilly - keep that in mind - and there's not a lot of shade on the paths so it can get hot quickly. The course itself was pretty busy so my guess is this is a fairly popular municipal course.

Hartford's other municipal corse. Very nice and the city has been spending money refurbishing the place. Not perfect yet. 27 holes driving range, putting green. It's got a great layout nice relaxed bar and good pub food. Nice staff. Cheap rounds and carts. Fun place! Home of the State Capitol Staff Golf League.

I've been golfing here for half of my life and I have never had an experience like I did today. We are all golfing on the 3rd hole to be interrupted by an older ranger at the course harassing us for our tickets while we are in our back swings. This is not our first run in with this pour mannered gentleman he has always given us and others a hard time during are matches. Canning this man would be a step in the right direction.

This Place is great, the greens are nice and the course is usually in great shape. The staff is also great very polite and kind, also the food is great, great for food after the round.

When is a park not a park? When you its part golf course and part community park. I was here one morning in May 2019 on a Friday morning running laps around Goodwin Park & Golf Course. Glad I didn't get hit by a ball. By all accounts, this scenic community park / golf course was the excellent venue to hold a marathon & half marathon event on the grounds one morning. We used the main path that looped around the interior of the park / golf course. According to Google Maps, it's called Goodwin Park Road. We just had to watch out for the arrant golf balls and people driving around in their golf carts around. Nothing happened with the golfers, although they were looking at us funny. I did enjoy the scenery while we were doing either 13.1 or 26.2, depending on which distance we signed up for. The large pond was nice and quite adorable. Every time I crossed that area, it was basically half way around the park / golf course. I didn't really enjoy the uphill leading up to the north end parking lot, but it had to be done. For the most part though, spending time at the Goodwin Park and Golf Course here in Hartford, Connecticut seemed to be more of a holiday than an endurance event. We all started at 6am and I promptly left the area around 10:15am. I did enjoy this park though. It was lovely. The overall experience here at Goodwin Park & Golf Course was nice and quite awesome. It was nice that the golfers did their thing and us runners did our thing. There was a clear cut asphalt path that starts near the corner of Maple Ave / South Street and ends up at The Hangar at Goodwin Park / north parking lot. It was about a 2 mile loop around for just about anyone and everyone to enjoy Goodwin Park. Regardless if you golf or not, having this park here is a boon to the Hartford, Connecticut community. It's somewhat away from the downtown district, but it maintains its suburbian feel to it. I assume the park is maintained by the city of Hartford. The park is beautiful and wished that I spent more time here. I did enjoy running laps around Goodwin Park & Golf course, which was my main source of experience here. If I had more time here, I would certainly hang out at the lake and make it a morning out of it. It certainly isn't the beach, but I would enjoy it. Perfect for families with kids, pets and their owners, and just about anyone who wants to get out of the urban rat race at least once a day. I would recommend coming here if you are in the Hartford, Connecticut area. It's a perfect place to stop and relax after a day of driving or a tough day at the office. Whatever you decide to do, consider coming here if you're in the area. The Goodwin Park and Golf Course is located at 1130 Maple Avenue in beautiful Hartford, Connecticut. As a park, there is no admission fees involved for anyone who wants to use the park in this manner. If you are a golfer, you'd need to pay the associated fees for using the golf course. On the Maple Ave side of Goodwin Park & Golf Course, there are generous parking options on that side of the park. Best bet would be to have a private or rental car to get here. Pretty sure there is public transit that serves this part of Hartford, but if you don't like that, consider Uber or Lyft as well. I had fun during my time here at Goodwin Park & Golf Course. It was a nice Friday morning in May 2019 when I was here. Very quiet and casual, especially when everyone is at work. This is probably what retirement feels like. Come on by and visit. 4.0 stars for the overall experience. Support local! A+

This is a hidden gem. I've been golfing here for about 6 years and it has come a long way! The course consists of one 18 hole course and one 9 hole course, not a par 3 but no water or sand traps, just straight. Their main 18 hole course is great, plenty of hazards, a bit soggy in places but all in all a great, very affordable course. And I've always seen either deer or hawks. Their 9 hole course, during the week is only $9. I've also taken lessons here! Overall a great facility for an unpretentious day of golf.

I have never had a worse experience at a golf course. I would recommend never even driving past this place. As soon as I arrived the worker came out begging for cash. They were explaining that to even walk on the course it would be around 300$. I couldn't believe it. Unfortunately, I did end up paying this man but when me and my associates arrived on course, another different guy asked for even more money. I was forced to go into debt for this hell hole. Golfing should never be this expensive. Also, did I mention I am an African American? I think there could have been some legitimate racial discrimination due to my experience. I have heard similar things from my friends, though. Anyway, never go here worst place. Also the course was pretty shitty and not well maintained. There were dogs and wild animals roming around the course making it very hard to play. There were also several groups of tweens walking around playing loud music on Bluetooth speakers and smoking cannabis cigarettes. When I got into my cart, there was a crack pipe in the cup holder. The list goes on.

Maybe it's only because my expectations of golf courses have changed after another year of play, but Goodwin is pretty freakin' terrible. It's not a one-star experience because it does remain cheap as hell. I just paid $20 yesterday for 18 holes, and I was a non-resident playing on a Saturday. I can only assume you cannot play golf for cheaper than that in the state of Connecticut. But this is a downright bad golf course... I guess you get what you pay for. After about 9 holes, I started to notice that nearly all of my well-backspun approach shots were not sticking on the green as usual. Then I began to realize: oh, right, there needs to be GRASS on the green in order for the ball to check up. Most of the greens did not contain grass. They did, however, contain a lovely mixture of bare dirt, patches of dead grass (doesn't count), and weeds. One of them was so bad there were actually small potholes developing in it... Talk about lift-and-replace... It's the Denny's of golf courses.
