This is by far the best food experience I ever had.  Each dish is prepared with the best ingredients.  Naturally selected.  Combination of amazing flavors.   The variety of Mexican drinks they have is incredible.   The staff is wonderful.   Definitely my new place to visit in DC.  Highly recommend to take metro.  Parking is complicated as any place in DC.

What a find! Everything we ate and drank here was absolutely spot on. The food is truly innovative, and really reflects the culinary diversity of Mexico. It's sort of hidden on P St. but definitely worth seeking out. Also a great place to eat or drink at the bar and gaze at rated Mezcal and tequila selection.

We just finished dinner here for the first time and overall, it was good but not epic. We sampled several dishes and they ranged from so-so to good. Service was great throughout the evening, very friendly atmosphere. Decor is surprisingly bland and way too minimal / sterile.

We started with the following dishes:

Nopal Asado (grilled baby Mexican cactus, queso panela, roasted mushrooms, salsa molcajete) - solid flavor, but nothing too memorable

Caesar de Broccoli Asado (grilled broccoli rabe, lime-caesar dressing, cotija, boquerones, corn tostada) - deliciously salty anchovies made this memorable, and the dressing and cotija cheese complemented the broccoli very well. Solid dish.

Chile Relleno (egg battered roasted poblano, chihuahua cheese, frontera salsa, chile oil) - loved the salsa this was bathing in, added a ton of flavor. The chihuahua cheese was the most memorable part of the pepper. Another good but not great dish.

As for our mains, we tried the following two dishes:

Tacos de Pescado Estilo Baja  (market catch of the day, guacamole, guajillo mayo, pico verde, purple cabbage) - my wife was not a fan, in part because the guacamole was not fresh, and while that was true I didn't mind the fish tacos but at best, they were just good

Can't remember the name special (mix of fatty wild boar and jalapeno cheddar venison sausage, on a bed of pinto beans and a side of Mexican potato salad) - overall very good, especially the smokey pinto beans and the sausage together. The boar was basically pure fat, like pork belly, too rich for me. The potato salad had a nice mustardy tang.

As for dessert, the Tres Leches cake was excellent and well presented. They also gave us a complimentary hot chocolate with some sea salt on top, delicious as well.

Service was steady and friendly, a very nice part of the experience.

I think with some tweaks on the menu to bring flavors more alive, Amparo could do quite well.

If you want REAL Mexican food with FANTASTIC mezcal, this is your place! Amparo totally delivers! The chef sources from the very best and it's apparent in the food. Go for the tasting menu and definitely try some mezcal (which comes with worm salt and crickets!). I personally like the seafood and carne asada. Pro tip: if you can't get a reservation, their bar takes walk ins!

We got the two different tacos on their 2024 summer brunch menu. Both exceeded our expectations. Though pricy, definitely worth trying. Cactus salad and chilaquiles were also pretty tasty! Ceviche was ok, not my favorite

Dessa respektlösa människor tog min bokning för en söndag kväll bara för att stängas. Ännu värre är att de hotar med en avbokningsavgift på 35 dollar om jag avbokar IT. Dessutom svarar de inte i telefon. Absoluta huggormar med NO hänsyn till människor.

Varierad, sofistikerad mexikansk mat, inte alls som de trevliga men enkla mexikanska restauranger man brukar stöta på. Det är uppfriskande att uppleva något förmodligen som att vara i staden som kocken kommer ifrån. Drycker A+, mat A+, så mycket variation, insekter ingår. Kör!

Maten var god, men inget helt utöver det vanliga/det bästa jag någonsin haft. Det är extremt dyrt för vad du får. Vibbar är okej. Servitrisen var mycket söt, men servicen var super långsam. Kommer förmodligen inte tillbaka.

Min fru och jag åt middag här. Maten var mycket intressant - detta är inte din vanliga mexikanska restaurang eftersom det har en annan twist till dina normala rätter plus några nya rätter (för mig i alla fall). Vi gick igenom menyn med servitrisen för att säkerställa att vi fick vår beställning rätt som menyn har en förvirrande lay - ut. Vi borde ha frågat om kryddighet i maten eftersom min fläskrätt fick tårar i ögonen! Plantain sidan var mycket bra. Servicen var bra. Inte billigt - $ 180 ink skatt/dricks för två.

Vi hade Totopos, Enchiladas Divorciadas och Huevos Rancheros. Allt var helt utsökt, och det kändes som om det var lagat med oss i åtanke. Okej, jag rekommenderar den här restaurangen inte för att jag träffade kocken utan för att maten, servicen, atmosfären och priserna var väl värda det och mer. Min vän försökte locka mig att prova Flan de Café, men jag tror att jag skulle ha förolämpat kocken om jag skickade tillbaka den utan att äta den. Jag såg dock en annan kund beställa den, vilket såg så lockande ut. Nästa gång, kock Irabien, lovar jag att göra det.
