Great way to ogle skyscrapers without making yourself a ground level target. Easy to navigate for non-locals. Lots of homeless/unhoused traffic too.

I love the Skyway. We normally use it on the weekends for events downtown, but rode it for the first time during a weeknight when we went to Art Walk. Believe me, it is so much less stressful to park in a well lit place and just ride the Skyway downtown. (Trying to find a parking space downtown is a nightmare for me.) It's well worn, but clean and safe. Workers are present, and I frequently see police patrolling. There are people from all walks of life riding this. My only complaint is that it needs to be expanded to go to further areas in Jacksonville. Just downtown and San Marco isn't enough. It needs to go farther into Springfield, into Riverside, etc., maybe even across the river into Arlington.

I've used the JTA Skyway for a few events in the past and it's pretty cool. It's a great way to get around to some spots downtown and very cheap entertainment for my boyfriend who doesn't get out much. Just be aware of your surroundings when you ride as you can bump into some pretty sketchy looking people that may or may not have good intentions. It's pretty efficient for those major events throughout the year and I would definitely recommend trying it once. With the limited stops, it still leaves a lot to be desired for transport. Now if they can only expand it to service the surrounding downtown communities, the airport and possibly the entire Jacksonville area, it would be more useful and then I would probably take it all the time.

Not quite sure what the story is behind this monorail... I just don't understand how they can run this for free. As a tourist, we had no destination in mind but based on prior reviews, figured we would get some nice views. We took the monorail from the San Marco station (after a walk around the San Marci area), and took it over to Hemming Plaza. At Hemming Plaza, you get a really nice raised view of the plaza. If you walk around the corner, you will find the Jacksonville Visitors center. This itinerary is a nice little excursion that gives you a taste of the monorail system. Just keep in mind, the station is very quiet so it is better not to travel alone. Also note that the monorail is stated to run on weekdays only, and weekends only for special events.

If it was $2 or thereabouts, I'd balk. Since it's free, there is NOTHING to complain about. Does it go everywhere? No. It wasn't meant to. Just like Miami's Metromover adjunct to Metrorail travels on a tightly defined loop in downtown Miami and skirts the harbor and the cruise terminal, Jacksonville's JTA Skyway has a compact layout necessitated by its more horizontally spread out downtown on the north side of the river and a portion of the commercial area, containing insurance company and medical buildings, that is on the south side of the river. Not only that, it makes for some great elevated views, it is air conditioned, it beats walking across a long bridge to get across the river, it will make you feel like a kid, and it can, and probably will, be expanded. Again, it's free. So quit bitching.

Took the skyway yesterday to Southern Grill by Riverplace. Think of the El Train in Chicago but in smaller scale -- wait, no, think of those little shuttle trains they have at airports. Yeah, that's more like it. A 2 car people mover. There are several stops for the Skyway: Hemming Plaza, across from the Bus Stop on Bay Street and Julia Street, in Riverplace across the street from The Southern Grill, FCCJ Downtown campus, and several others. It's a great idea. Too bad it won't take me all the way to San Marco or Five Points. Need to take the trolley or drive my car to Five Points. San Marco is car only. Ho hum... Jacksonville is spread out. Our downtown is a downer. So many cool venues that are not used to their fullest potential. But I'm sure if the public transportation was made useful, then downtown life would be much more exciting. Especially now with the crappy economy. 50 cents is sooo not an excuse to stay indoors. See, picture this. A skyway that took someone from the Stadium to Hemming Plaza to the Landing to the Convention Center to Five Points and then to San Marco. Hardcore awesome, don't you think? And then the car-less fellows (yes we have those here, I always ended up dating them!) would have more reason to get out. And the more the merrier! If you haven't ridden the skyway yet, you should give it a try. Just for the sake of the big city feel. Plus, the views of the river are beautiful. This is a terrific thrill ride and it's FREE!!! The tram feels smallish, somewhat rickety and it tilts. I'm pretty sure that if you shift your weight to one side too quickly it may well flip over. It's Jacksonville's version of a Busch Gardens ride and I think it's awesome. It also gives good views over parts of downtown including the former Cohen's department store that has been renovated into City Hall. A few of the passengers I was onboard with didn't smell great, but it's hot outside!!! It's a great way to get around downtown and to get a feel for Jacksonville's landscape. Did I mention that it's FREE?????

I BELIEVE I CAN FLY! The JTA Skyway is a free monorail train that travels along an elevated platform around downtown Jacksonville. It is a great way to see views of the river and surrounding areas. We had no particular destination in mind but just want to experience the Skyway. It was a really nice ride and best of all, it was free! Just keep in mind that riding this train is like taking public transportation in any major city. We found the station to actually be a bit deserted on a weekday morning and this may make a female rider uncomfortable. You may also encounter some interesting characters. Despite, any misgivings you may have, the experience is worth it because the people we met during our adventure were kind, engaging and very helpful. I could definitely see this train being popular during special downtown events. It is a great way to avoid having to park downtown. Kids will love this train so enjoy the ride and don't forget to take photos! *** The train runs from 9am until 6pm.

Have never really had a chance (or desire) to ride the Skyway until One Spark. Great utilization of something I didn't really ever think had much of a place in Jacksonville. I don't work downtown and I'm not really downtown enough to be a huge fan of the Skyway, but parking at the Prime Osborn and getting off at Hemming Plaza was so much easier thanks to this little ride when I was headed downtown for One Spark. I think we will only see this continue to grow and downtown grows. It may be slow, but it will get there.
