There is always a rotation exhibit with a wide variety of literature pertaining to art, religion, political history and so much more. I was surprised to learn Karpeles owns the original draft of the Bill of Rights of the United States. They also own a wide variety of things from Einstein's famous formula "E=Mc2" to the sheet music of "The Wedding March". Of course, all of these treasures are not right here in Jacksonville, you can go to their main website to see where all the locations are and that is: https://karpeles.com/ You may have driven by this building and wondered what it was or admired the old architecture. But since you never heard about it, perhaps you never went in...well, now you know! Looking for something to do? Put this on your list! As mentioned, there is always a rotation of exhibits and to view what is currently on exhibit, please go to their website: https://karpeles.weebly.com/ The admission is free, however, donations are more than appreciated. Every little bit helps to keep these exhibits available for all of us to enjoy. Lastly, there is ample free street parking around the building.

Karpeles Manuscript Museum is the largest privately owned organization for historically significant documents and works. The organization owns many unique things such as the proclamation setting aside Thanksgiving Day by George Washington, Richard Wagner's original composition of the Wedding March and scientific papers written by Einstein. My particular exhibit was at the Jacksonville location. The current showing was of Samuel B Morse work in the telegraph. It had many personal letters, diagrams and government correspondence for using the Morse code. It also included the very first transmission sent. Everything was nicely displayed and explained. Exhibits rotate around museums. Sometimes there may be a exhibits by the same name but with different documents so be sure to check what the specific exhibit contains. Facebook is usually the best place to find the info. Eleven museums exist in the United States. Locations and hours vary by location. Admission is free to all. A fantastic way to dig deeper into history and scientific discoveries. A true treasure!!

History buffs should enjoy this place. You feel like you're sucked back in time when you read the old manuscripts. After reading about this place for the last few years, my curiosity finally drove me here. It's a very small museum, and it's FREE to go in. It only took a 30 minute walk-through to take in all the different pieces. I didn't really read through them thoroughly (as in, word for word) but I imagine if you did, you could spend maybe a full hour and a half or more in there. The exhibits were pretty interesting. Their current featured exhibits are manuscripts from Houdini and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's encounters with spirits and some steampunk inventions art created by Jim Smith to complement the manuscripts. They were pretty convincing. I thought they were actually real ones. Lol. Another exhibit in the museum included small fossilized animals, such as fishes, turtles, and creatures that lived alongside dinosaurs. In another exhibit, there were carvings of Egyptian gods and goddesses, and some small-scale models of the old USS Constitution ship, which fought in the War of 1812. The staff woman was very friendly and helpful, and the artist Jim Smith was there assembling some new work. As Marie F. mentioned, the building has nice architecture and we felt like we were at the Lincoln Memorial standing between the columns at the front. There's a balcony that overlooks the entire main floor, so I think it was a performance hall at one point. I'd like to go back again and actually read through each manuscript and maybe ask the staff woman where Einsteins Theory of Relativity manuscript and the Bill of Rights draft were. I didn't see them on display.

This is a beautiful building. I'm a big dork so I love museums and libraries. But once I walked in the main room all I could think of was WEDDINGS. This place is so beautiful architecturally, but very empty as a museum. I could have quickly gone through the exhibit in under 5 minutes. The craftsmanship of the building is what kept me entertained. So if you are in the area, please take a moment to walk through and see what's new. But I wouldn't spend the gas money to come just for the museum. If you bring a child here they will easily be entertained by the nice piano in the main room - but please don't let them touch it unless then know how to play. The staff here was very warm and welcoming.

Formerly the Christian Science church, this building is now home to the Karpeles manuscript Museum. For history loving folks and people who love the written word, this little museum is good quirky stop on an urban excursion. Often hosts events like the Steampunk Prom, China cat Hippie festival and art openings, the Karpeles is a good neighbor to Jax's first suburb (Springfield). The museum director is super chill and very cool. My favorite time is when the Halloween exhibit of vintage postcards or trick or treating in the olden times are shown. Those people know how to do hand made creepy costumes superbly. Check out their Facebook page. The steps and the columns are great for photo shoots. It's gorgeous classical architecture and worth a look see.
