The absolute best restaurant in Dunedin hands down. Prices are $$$$ but it’s 100% worth it. Everything is mind-blowingly delicious, they have an extensive wine list with a very informative and personable sommelier. The service is top notch. The atmosphere is quaint, romantically lit and lovely. It is a small place and always 100% booked so reservations are a must. It’s a fantastic place to celebrate special occasions. My only “complaint” would be that their bathroom facilities could use a little zhuzhing. I hope they get a Michelin star one day - it’s truly a gem.

My husband and I were celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary and we decided on The Black Pearl as we both have never been. It was one of the most impressive and memorable dinner experiences we’ve had. Our server Jay was wonderful. Super knowledgeable about all the food and his suggestions were on point. Adam the Maitre’D/Sommelier was amazing (background on the wines was book worthy). We had the best Brunello and Tokaji (dessert wine). Everything we had was delicious but the whole experience complimented the amazing menu selections. Kudos to the chef.

The Black Pearl offers the most amazing dining experience. The restaurants atmosphere is lovely, very romantic.   My husband and I had one of the best dining experiences ever. The food was amazing as well as the service. The head sommelier Adam was so informative and was spot on with all the wine choices. We are looking forward to the next time.  Our thanks for a great experience.

I've been to The Black Pearl several times and I've loved the experience every single time!!

The entire experience is incredible. Most recently Adam was our sommelier and chose a white burgundy that was out of this world. He also knew it was a special occasion and poured us some champagne! Jay, our server, made some fantastic recommendations. We started with the Roquefort & Carambola and Surf & Surf - both were stellar. The bread that came next was just out of the oven and so soft (I think it was a wild rice pumpernickel). We had the white truffle lobster risotto which was OUT OF THIS WORLD. We had heard it's been a fan favorite for years - and rightly so. The portion was perfect for my wife and I to split.

For entrées my wife loved the Pan Roasted Black Grouper and I loved the Pappardelle Bolognese. Both were perfect.

And for dessert (the cadence and portions of the meal are carefully constructed to allow for two people to split a dessert!) we enjoyed the White Chocolate Cake. Highly recommend that as well.

Everything about the experience was incredible. I can't wait for the next time!

Food was delicious. They have 11 tables, so be sure to make a reservation. Only one chef, and he makes the food to order. The dining experience was about 2.5 hours. I like when restaurants give you time to enjoy the meal and chat with the people you’re dining with, so they did good on that end. Our waiter was Sean. He’s so polite and knows everything about each dish.
We each stuck to water for the night, no alcohol and it was about $90 per person after taxes and tip.
I would eat here again.
