We did the private omakase room for 5 and the vibe was perfect. I know some Michelin star places that don't offer the private suite, so that was nice. Had a really great time. Really good drinks. Really fresh sushi. Great experience. Really attentive and knowledgeable chef.

Wowowow!! I went to Mujō for dinner as someone who really has never had nigiri or craved it (my boyfriend reaaaaally likes this kinda stuff though). I was honestly nervous about whether I would enjoy the food if I hadn’t previously enjoyed raw fish. I WAS SO IMPRESSED!! All of the food was so amazing (except for the uni/sea urchin but I feel like that’s an acquired taste). Even things like mackerel (which I’ve had before but was always way too fishy for me) were perfectly prepared and not fishy at all. There were a lot of other supplemental options, but the staff were not pushy in the least. The chefs were friendly and welcomed conversation if you asked questions. The vibe wasn’t pretentious at all but was definitely luxurious! Even the bathrooms had heated seats and one of the most fancy bidets I have ever seen. This meal was so much fun from start to finish and was such a joy to experience. The price tag is very high but I feel like the experience we got was so worth it. Everything was so thought through, every flavor was beautifully balanced, and they even give you a pretty little Japanese fabric as a thank you for coming.. GORGEOUS!! If I had unlimited cash, I’d come here all the time! Don’t get me started on the ice cream.. it was so perfect.

Mujo has five star potential but I gave it only two stars for a specific faux pas for fine dining.

Let's start with the positives: The ingredients were fresh with fish flowin in twice a week from Japan. The atmopshere was intimate and comfortable. The service aura behind, both, the sushi bar and cocktail bar was what you would find in Japan: more introverted, serious about the craft, soft spoken.  The service staff were friendly, attentive and had great attention to detail. You can tell they were well trained in their protcols.  Finally, I liked the diversity of the staff for the goodness of that and proving strong training can give you the feel of a cultural experience.

Now for why I am not giving this place five stars...

I have had many omakase experiences, and separately, many Michelin rated restaurants. This is the first Michelin or omakase restaurant that tries to aggessively upsell you. For example, they gave you a menu with nine items to purchase in addition to the omakase. Typically, I would see a list of what they are serving in the omakase instead of a list of things they want me to add-on. This demonstrates where management's empahsis is: on the upsell vs the core omakase menu and experience. Another example, the service staff asked at least three times (maybe four) if we wanted to add more. In all the other omakase experiences I have had you would get more than you could eat and the decisions you had to make were the win pairing and maybe a caviar add on.

Keep in mind the term omakase is Japanse for "I'll leave it up to you" referring to the chef. It is not supposed to be a normal restaurant experience.

To the owners or management, I urge you be more true to the omakase experience and take out the aggessive upsell. Fair if you want to charge more - your clientele is prepared for it. But it's not a great fine dining experience when you are being asked multipel times if you want to buy more.

Overall, I enjoyed my time here and the food was good. It was not the best sushi I've had but it was high quality. Aside from the upselling, the service was excellent.

My friend and I ended the night with a $1,056 bill in which we tipped an extra $250.  This was about the same as my bill at Alan Ducasse in Paris (3 Michelin stars). Ducasse was  far superior experience and they did not try to upsell me once.

One of the best dinning experiences I have had. The food was fresh and delicious. I can not wait to come back. Service was impeccable.

If you get the beverage pairing, get ready for story time, it was super informative and I found it entertaining. We added Wagyu Temaki Beef Tataki, Caviar Service and I LOVED the Foie Gras Monaka!!!!!!
But let me tell you the bestest thing and personal favorite was THE DESSERT, OBSESSED. It was an overall spectacular evening. Thank you all so much! It was amazing :) oh and they have heated toilet seats 😅

So I accidentally went to the place
next door, so don’t make my mistake.
I recommend the restaurant next door
ask you if you had reservations at Mujō.

The imported ingredients from Japan were superbly prepared.  The chef and staff demonstrated impressive knowledge and attention to detail. The meal was a delightful culinary journey, leaving us pleasantly surprised by the high quality and expertise evident in every dish. Valet parking is hassle free and most convenient. Make sure you allocate plenty of time to enjoy your meal. If you love sushi and Japanese cuisine, this intimate restaurant is a must try!
