A great property and resort. Such a great check-in process. The staff are all very helpful and friendly. The Surf Shack is amazing because it's right near the beach. They have a local market which has so much. Also you can check out bikes and explore. They also provide free snorkel gear and paddle boards. A tip is to go to the local store to get beer and other alcohol and use your room fridge to keep it cold. Beers at the surf shack are $12 but go to the on site market and they are $5. They also have a morning canoe excursion to see the sun rise, note you need to be up at 6am to do this. They also provide a free Mercedes for 3 hour check out, first come first served. Lastly or first time on the Big Island and it is now our favorite. Can't wait to go back to this property.

My family stayed at the Mauna Lani for a couple of nights on an island hopping spring break trip last year.  Why posting a review now?  I just posted a pretty negative review of a totally different hotel and realized that I was mostly posting negative reviews, and I don't want to be that guy!  I should also take time to point out when things went well.  We had a wonderful experience at this resort and it is among the top few hotels I have ever experienced.  The atmosphere is very tranquil and there was plenty to do around the resort to keep our elementary school-aged kids busy while we were there.  Granted, our visit was short, and we spent some of the time exploring the island and the national park.  Our room was very sizable and nicely appointed. We had a view of the ocean from the balcony.  We had a wonderful meal at Canoe House where my 8 year old son decided that he likes oysters and wagyu beef.  Hopefully, that won't cost us too much in the years to come!  I was surprised to see so many poor reviews here as our experience was top notch.  It is expensive, but that shouldn't be surprising when staying at a high end resort in an expensive place to be.  There was no point at which we felt we were not getting our money's worth from our stay.  We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

The Mauna Lani is every bit the 5 star resort that it says it is… it has a plethora of amenities available to the guest. The staff is one of the most friendly, knowledgeable and gracious staffs at any hotel or resort that we have stayed at previously. Free sunrise yoga, free bike usage, shuttle service to the shops in the village. Easy free access to unlimited filtered chilled water. Great food and drinks. Pools, beach, snorkel, etc…. And easily the very best concierge service that we have experienced.

Best restore I’ve stayed at. They really did a fantastic job upgrading the resort. Every inch of this resort is beautiful and heavenly. The service is great and what they offer is endless. I can’t wait to come back. We hiked along the coastline and saw other resorts/hotels and none compared to Mauna Lani. We felt so proud that we picked the best spot. Both my husband kept saying to each other that this is paradise.

This hotel is so peaceful and just a perfect way to relax on the big island. The rooms are well appointed but you want to spend too much time in them as there's so much to do outside. The pools are well placed and have enough loungers to relax without feeling cramped or like you're on top of others. The beach is also amazing with little tide pools to protect you from the waves. Everyone at the resort is so friendly and willing to help. The pre-arrival team was the perfect amount of helpful, helping us plan the things we absolutely wanted to do while still leaving lots of time to just relax and enjoy Hawaii. This is exactly what a 5 star resort should be.
