I've stayed at many hostels throughout the United States and Seaside has become one of my favorites. The staff were amazing and very friendly. And I found Seaside to be an affordable, clean, and decent place to stay while in Hawaii. I had a conference to attend in the neighborhood of Waikiki, in the city of Honolulu on the island of Oahu. And I didn't want to pay $400 per night for a hotel room, which was the conference rate, so I decided to stay at Seaside which was conveniently located within walking distance to the conference hotel. Seaside is close to the beach, great restaurants, shopping, and other amenities, but just remote enough to provide some breathing room. If you haven't stayed at a hostel before, all you need to do is use your public manners and exercise your trust abilities during your stay. You share a room with people you've never met, but most people come with a very open mind and open spirit. You participate in a nice community and feel that energy when you enter. You share the refrigerator with others and trust your food will be there when you come back (and it is!). You share the kitchen, the dishes, cookware, coffee pot. You share a bathroom. There are lockers in the rooms to store your valuables. When you check-in you are assigned a number which tells you where your bed is in the room and the place to put your towel. During breakfast a few of us were chatting about the previous day's adventures or sharing recommendations of where to go. It's a very relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Quiet hours are enforced and I was able to get a good night's rest.

I travel to hawaii at least twice a year, and even single time I stay at Seaside Hostel. Yes - It happens to be the most affordable option, but what I love the most is the vibe - it's SO much fun to head back to the hostel after ending your surf session and end up making new friends while cooking dinner in the shared kitchen. The staff is great and friendly - the manager Georgia helped accommodate some date change requests very easily without any hassle. Last time I was there (July 2024) they were undergoing some upgrades to the rooms, also fresh paint on the building, new fridge upgrades - a welcome surprise since I was previously happy with the experience! Aloha, friends - I'll see you back at Seaside soon!

I stayed here for 7 nights and I would have stayed for longer! This was my first time staying in a hostel and it was such an amazing experience. The room I stayed in was 6 girls and they keep it incredibly clean and tidy, even being near the beach. It was very quiet and calm being all women, but you get put in a groupchat with the coed hostels if you'd like so you a still socialize if you choose. There is no AC so during the day it is very hot, but at night the windows are all open and I honestly didn't think it was that bad plus there are a lot of fans. Workers were all so nice, especially Georgia!! The kitchen and common spaces were cute and clean, no complaints I would 10/10 go back.

This Hostel is blocks from Waikiki Beach and 1/2 block from bus routes. Walk 12 blocks to the Seven Eleven and get a bus pass!!! It is kept very clean and has a huge shared kitchen with two fridges. Wifi works in common areas and bedroom. Bring a lock. Large and small lockers available. The staff are professional, warm, and friendly. Additional towels and bedding available. There is an amazing couryard for hanging out in with several areas so groups can chill together. I am older than most guests and felt at home and welcome.

My stay at this hostel was amazing! Great location, great people, and clean rooms! All the receptionists were so kind. This was my first hostel to stay in and it was better than I thought. If you're looking for affordability, comfort, and a safe stay this is your place!

Cons and then pros: Cons: Things to definitely know before you book, that I was not aware of: 1) It must be made REAL clear in ALL placements (Hostelworld, etc.) that NO ONE under 18 is allowed in this hostel period, even with a parent in a private room. I have never been faced with this in my 60-70 trips to hostels. I got this "no one under 18" notice in an email just before check in. I tried to both call and email the hostel, to clarify, but neither was answered in TWO DAYS. Don't expect a timely response to questions. 2) The "private" rooms aren't really private. They have windows that look right out to the major walkway, so you have people staring right into your room, your bed, and your stuff. You can "close" the frosted glass slat windows, but there is no ventilation if you do and no air conditioning. 3) There is a floodlight right outside the window and no curtains for the room. You get serious light exposure at night. I had to hang a sheet from the top bunk to get some decent darkness. 4) The owner appears to be over the top on Covid, because, every other lodging I looked up has gone with Hawaii in NOT requiring tests or restrictions (except if you have symptoms), but not Seaside. They demand a test or vaccine passport, even though vaccinated people are just as likely to pass it on, as we now know. This info also came by email right before check-in. 5) It can be quite noisy, because it is in the middle of Waikiki. I am not a fan of hyper-commercial culture, and, besides the beach, this area offers an orgy of in-your-face consumerism. Not my thing. You might want to "get off the strip" if it is not your thing. This hostel is all about the partying, Instead of "we have been the spot for backpackers and travelers of all ages" (Yelp self- description-- not true as noted above), it should read: "We are a 'What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas' kind of place, not a family hostel".) In a way I am happy this did not work out for me. I stayed this night by myself, and the two nights with my son will be at the Ewa Hotel, for not that much more money away from the madding crowds and walkable to the zoo, Safeway, and Surfer's Beach. Pros: Staffperson Hind (pronounced like "wind") was efficient, laid back, and kind, and was reasonable and as accommodating as she could be. But she cannot make up for the bad policies she is forced to enforce. Another pro: Kitchen open 24 hours, and pretty well set up. Bedding was adequate.

I've Booked multiple stays at this Hostel and wouldn't stay anywhere else. It gets better every time and clean!! The staff has a fun, professional, friendly vibe! An enormous shout out to Hella, Amber, Rhonda and Ben for their hard work in making this place run as smooth as possible with a fun vibe.
