First time at the Daniel Inouye airport Rental Car Center in Honolulu. Actually now all the rental car companies is under one roof like all the other mainland airport. This weekend I reserved a truck at Budget and since I'm a fast break member I proceeded directly to the 4th floor where all the cars are staged . If your looking to rent a car at the airport you need to enter from the ground floor baggage claim than catch the escalator or elevator up to the 2nd floor. There you'll see all the different companies from Hertz,Budget, Avis, Alamo,National, Dollar, Enterprise, Thrifty and also Sixt.. Then once you have your contract you'll be sent to the 4th floor where all the cars are parked .

I rented a full size car from here. Picked up around midnight, the agent who helped me was quite abrasive. I asked about the free upgrade that comes with Costco rentals, and the conversation went like this: Me: Just curious, does my car include the free upgrade since I rented through Costco? Agent: You rented a full size car so that's what you get. Me: Oh ok, I saw Costco has a complementary upgrade so I was just curious -- *cuts me off* Agent: ...upon availability. ok, it's late, there's not much cars, i get it. So I drive off with my car. 2 nights later I get into my rental and it's infested with cockroaches. Like 10 of em. And little cockroach babies. I'll attach a pic. I brought it back to Budget and the staff seemed sorry but not surprised. They upgraded me to the highest trim jeep, a wrangler rubicon, which was a nice gesture. I just can't recommend renting from Budget given the car was infested with roaches. Thankfully I discovered this while I was near the airport, but the drive wasn't fun for me one bit.

If I could give this place no stars I would. The complaint below was formally lodged twice with budget rental company. They provided an identical generic response to each complaint. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY. Their own employees inform me when I was checking in the first vehicle, that the fleet is not maintained. They said they have numerous customers that have to return their vehicles due to issues. Pay the extra money and go to Enterprise. They're much better. Upon picking up my rental car, a Jeep Rubicon, I discovered that it was clearly not cleaned or properly inspected. There were sunflower seeds in the center console, trash under the seats, and most disturbingly, live roaches crawling on the floor. This is completely unacceptable. Cleanliness and sanitation are basic expectations when renting a vehicle, and what I received fell far below that standard. Unfortunately, the situation worsened. On the second-to-last day of my trip, after a short stop at my Airbnb to retrieve something I forgot, the car would not start. I had to call Budget Emergency Roadside Assistance, and while waiting, I also flagged down multiple people, including one with a Jeep Rubicon and one with a Ford F150, to try to help jumpstart the car, with no success. When roadside assistance finally arrived, it took them two attempts to get the car running, further suggesting a mechanical or battery issue that should have been identified before the car was rented out. Despite all of this, I was assured by the Budget agent at the airport that I would receive a 10% discount on my final bill for the inconvenience. However, I was later charged the full amount, and to my disbelief, I also received an email stating that I would be charged for the emergency roadside assistance service, which was required due to your company's failure to provide a functional, well-maintained vehicle. Moreover, when I exchanged the malfunctioning car, I was placed in a soft-top vehicle (Jeep Wrangler) without being informed in advance. This is a safety downgrade from the hard-top vehicle (Jeep Rubicon) I had reserved and paid for. At that point, I had already wasted over five hours dealing with this situation and had transferred all of my belongings into the new car. I should have been informed and offered a choice--not forced into a less secure vehicle without notice. To make matters worse, while waiting at the Budget counter, I overheard another customer complaining about vehicle issues (in that case, a car that was shaking when stopping), further highlighting that this is not an isolated incident. Your company clearly does not properly maintain their vehicles. I also noticed many cars in the lot with expired registration tags. I am extremely disappointed and dissatisfied with this experience. I should not be charged for the roadside service. Nor should I be charged the full rental amount given the multiple failures in vehicle condition, service, and safety.

Renting a car is usually a straightforward process for us--check in at the counter, head to the lot, pick a car, and drive off. But this time? Wow, what a mess. The long wait at the service counter should have been our first warning. We thought we had it good as we were second in line and there were two agents. That was deceiving as the wait dragged on and on... Once we finally checked in, we expected to go upstairs, pick out our car, and be on our way. When we got to the lot though, it was practically empty and slim pickings for more higher end cars. It was clear they had either oversold or were dealing with other issues as I overheard one customer say it was their "third or fourth" car and each car before it had some type of issue. We ended up waiting nearly an hour as the group of frustrated customers grew. The one silver lining? When we *finally* got our SUV, it was brand new--less than 1,000 miles on it. It was obvious it hadn't gotten the full cleanup. There were some weird white smudges on the exterior, but at that point, we didn't care. After waiting so long, we were just relieved to get on the road and be on our way! Hopefully it was a fluke experience, but honestly this past time wasn't the greatest.

This is a hard one. My travel companion and I were frustrated coming here after we arrived late from a delayed flight. In reading the confirmation of our scheduled rental, Budget would be waiting if they are aware of our flight number. Knowing about the delay before taking off a 2nd time, I called the 800 number at 9:30 pm PST and was unable to speak with anyone to answer my concerns. We arrived here at 2:30 am local time so the 800 number office was open since it was mainland time. The service of person told me this office would not open until 5 am. Debating on whether to take a ride share to our hotel and return at 5 am, we chose to save the roundtrip cost, the cost of two good meals, and wait it out. When the doors opened, several customers who waited by the glass doors to start the line. Three customers and ten minutes later, the lady at the counter helped me get my vehicle. After using their touchscreen to sign the waivers and agreement, we took the nearby elevator to the 4th floor in getting our car from the assigned space. Not sure who is to blame for our 2.5 hour wait which eventually resulted in a 33 hour day of travel before finally taking a 1.5 hour nap. The only reason this was 'okay' is the seamless help from the friendly counter lady. *** Kicker - Just before finishing this review, I was pulled over driving our car to the hotel and was pulled over by two deputies from the Sheriff's Department. Not aware of violating any traffic laws, I was stunned. After sharing our background and the car's, the deputies told us the registration was expired and subject to fines. After learning that this is a rental, they told me that the rental company would be subject to a citation. Talk about adventures.

Very friendly staff. The lines were wrapped around and the staff did the best they could to keep the line moving. This is a very busy location at the airport. A couple of rental companies including Budget had the longest lines ... I would assume due to the price.

The online experience is gratifyingly easy regardless if you're tech savvy. Booked a vehicle for a family trip and am thrilled it went smoothly. Prior to trip emails covered everything. Once at destination airport the process went off without a hitch. I will comment we truly would have appreciated more "checkin" agents to make the line move faster. Also, it was sweltering?! We were all dripping. Unnecessary! The vehicle was immaculate and as advertised. Turning car back in was super quick and painless. Overall, absolutely competitive in price and afforded us a top notch experience from the Honolulu airport!
