The Cultural Gardens within the airport are an oasis for meditation and relaxation before a flight out of Honolulu. The gardens are divided into three sections with features from Hawaii, Japan and China. Each section has a water feature (pool or waterfall) and tropical plants from the different regions. Bench seating is abundant throughout the gardens. I like that plants are identified on signs. Several modern art sculptures are displayed around the gardens as well. The Gardens are on the lower level adjacent to D gates after passing through security. Elevators or stairs ascend to the area. There is no charge to enjoy the gardens. The Gardens are a unique feature to the aloha airport and worth a visit before or after a long flight.

Heading to the airport, getting through a long check in line, and then getting through an even longer security checkpoint line takes up A LOT of time, and the two and a half to three hours of time you allotted yourself is all gone as you already need to head over to the gate, which might be a long ways away too! With all my travels, I never had time to even consider walking around the airport to visit stores, restaurants, or anything else. This time around, the entire check in process went quite quick. Many check in agents, so the line moved fast, and the key was one of the airport security opened a second line at the security checkpoint just when we were there, so it was even quicker! After gathering our things and putting my shoes on, I was stunned at the amount of time the whole process took. So...now what? Get plenty time now. Let's go to the garden! I've always wanted to go. I always thought it was just a Chinese Garden, but it's a cultural garden that also has a Hawaiian and Japanese garden. Nice! The gardens were kept pretty well and tidy. The plants and trees were green. There are a couple of airline lounges around the gardens as well as modern restrooms. There are informational display boards along the walls describing each garden and its unique plants. Overall, you wouldn't think there'd be a little botanical garden within the airport. You don't even feel like you're at an airport while you're there. Everything was well maintained and well kept. It's a decent place to walk around to kill time while you went for your flight. It's not very noisy either. Hopefully you can check in incredibly quick to find time to visit the cultural gardens!

Commonly it's a pretty stale atmosphere in airports. Daniel K. Inouye International Airport has quite a few pleasant things about it. In the terminals are several cultural gardens honoring Chinese, Hawaiian, and Japanese culture and serenity. Find these in pretty unexpected areas close to airport craziness. These are a fast place to get away from the hassles of traveling. Best parts to the airport are these gardens. It's got several of these to check out while looking around here. These were created by Richard C. Tongg when the airport opened. Makes traveling better. The Chinese Garden has a bright red pagoda with a yellow roof. Also there's a statue of Dr. Sun Yat Sen, the founder of the Republic Of China. There's an arched bridge over a koi pond that symbolizes spanning the seas in order to achieve world peace. Has to be a good reason to like this airport, because most don't have anything like it. It's a popular resting place after traveling. These are located in Terminal 2 by the E gates and you can pass by these on the way to wherever.

What a way to end our trip! A couple of days prior to exiting this delightful island of Oahu, we visited Foster Botanical Garden, and we completely enjoyed it. I mention this because when you search for 'botanical garden', the HNL Cultural Garden also gets listed. This wonderful little garden has three areas to explore: ~ A Japanese garden with pagodas, stone walkways, some koi, and a 90° angled walkway as well. Which leads to a little roof and bench to read and relax. ~ A Chinese garden with a bridge, more curves than angles, bigger koi fish, and a noticeable red pavilion with a golden roof. Seemed like a peaceful place to reflect as well. More grassy and green on this side. ~ And finally, a Hawaiian garden in which I gotta say it felt somewhat secluded. Had plenty of green, but also plenty of color. I'd say it's the more lush side. As for the waterfalls and size of the koi pond, that just takes the cake for me personally. The great thing about this place is that you almost forget that you're at the airport. It gives you the opportunity to take last minute photo as well. The lounges are down in this area. And to top it all off, there are a couple of restrooms and a relief area for your service dog. Well, if you're at Terminal 2 and you've got time to spare. And you need one last taste of Hawaii, then you're just take an elevator ride down (or take the stairs) and enjoy it!

Awesome airport and very easy to get around. They have plenty of shops to get your last minute souvenirs like every other airport. However, the staff is super friendly and they will help you get around the airport. When we landed here, my family and I were trying to find where our car rental would be but because of the layout of the airport, it was so easy to find our way around. It was also very easy for us to get our car rental so it was pretty nice. The only iffy thing I didn't understand was how they keep gates closed until about.. 20 minutes before boarding time. Seating was a little tricky while waiting to board until finally they opened our gate area. It wasn't horrible but it was new for me to experience! Whatever works if they need to keep things efficient the way they know how to.

Friendliest airport staff ever! This airport runs so smoothly. There is plenty to choose from when it comes to shopping or restaurants. Prices are fair. Plenty of seating room and super organized when boarding. This definitely has to be my favorite airport this far.

An old airport but one with culture of the island and always clean. I love the open air areas and the cultural garden. HNL is also about 15 mins from Waikiki when traffic is low. The waiting areas are clean also. TSA precheck can get busy sometimes, security in general so alot for enough time for departures during peak seasons. It once took my partner 1 hour to get through security.

Gee. I lived in Hawaii for almost a decade and landed at HNL Airport dozens of times. This was my first-time visiting HNL Airport Cultural Gardens. We managed to arrive at the airport to avoid the crowded TSA line. Instead of heading to restaurants, I decided to visit the HNL Airport Cultural Gardens on the ground floor. We got down there just in time for the break of dawn. Duckies were pecking the ground for worms. Water was flowing to make that tranquil sound to soothe our travel anxiety. Restrooms at HNL Airport Cultural Gardens were modern and clean, which was a contrast to the rest of restrooms at HNL Airport. I would return to HNL Airport Cultural Gardens on my next visit to the island. Yeah, don't feed the animals.

Chill out around the rush... We usually drive out to the distant area to find some peace and serenity place among the concrete towers of the city and though our airport in Honolulu is far from the updated current levels of the Nation places like this Cultural Gardens is one to be proud of. With three separated sections of Hawaiian, Japanese and Chinese and the beautifully kept gardens has been here for decades though I never really had the chance to give it that moment to truly enjoy as I did today and what a beautiful arrangement between the three where even the pathways are connected with gravel and posts for me like a symbolization of our cultures living the life together in Hawai'i. Many varieties of plants are found here and the water features somehow just drowns out all the airport sounds brining a much more relaxed vibe before you start your journey. Thank you!

I always enjoy flying out of Honolulu International AirPort. 1. It's home for me. 2. Whether I fly Hawaiian Airlines or United Airlines, getting to my gate is easy and seamless to navigate. I tell people to get the TSA Precheck because the lines just moves quickly no matter how long it is. The inter-island flights are just as quick and convenient. I've never encountered a person with a bad attitude. Mahalo, for your service.
