We got picked up at 7:15AM for a snorkeling tour. The guide was super friendly and patient when instructing us how to snorkel. She took us all around the Hanauma bay and showed us many spots that would have sights of fishes. It was a bummer that we didn't get to see turtles (due to the tide) but it was still great. One of the many great things about booking a tour is that we got to skip the long line to enter the Hanauma Bay reserves. You do have to pay for your own fees to get in and up and down the beach (only 19 bucks for 2 ppl). My goggles kept falling off during the tour so I had to stop frequently to let the water to come out of the goggles. She saw that I was struggling so she stopped and swapped hers for mine to ensure that it was comfortable and safe for me the rest of the tour. After the snorkeling session, she gave us chips and water :) . Highly recommend this place!

*UPDATE* I was refunded in full after I was contacted back. Did not rebook a tour but thankfully the company took care of giving me my full refund. I ended up getting a shuttle and equipment to the bay without a tour.

Worth the visit. You'll learn new information and what the history of the reservation is, in return you'll have an appreciation for it. They have all the gear for you to rent there. If you've never gone snorkeling before it'll be a self-taught / get the hang of it learning experience.

Although everyone in my group had been snorkeling before, we still enjoyed this tour/lesson. Allyn was prompt, and thorough in making sure all of our equipment fit. He was friendly and gave us additional information about other places to see on our vacation in Oahu. Perhaps it is cheaper to rent snorkel equipment and go on your own, but I didn't have to worry about any of the details I would have to take care of if we went on our own - transportation/parking (the parking lot fills up quickly), snacks/water, lockers AND photos. We took disposable water cameras with us, but one of the things that I enjoyed most about this company was that they post pictures of the tour on Facebook within a day or two of the trip. Allyn took nice pictures of our snorkeling group and of the turtle and fish we saw in the bay. I was able to share those pics with our family on the mainland by the next day, even though nearly a week later, I have yet to send our cameras out to be developed. :) Allyn and his company helped make our Hanauma Bay snorkeling trip one of the more memorable parts of our vacation. I would definitely use them again when I go back to Oahu.

My family went with Fumio, and it was a great experience. My daughter is 7 and not a great swimmer. Fumio took the time to let her ride on her back and basically gave her a guided tour. She also speaks both English and Japanese which was a great help as I speak English but my mother-in-law speaks Japanese. She even took the time afterwards to take us to a shop we casually asked her about on the way to the Bay. Could you do something like this cheaper? Sure, but the reason you hire a guide isn't to be cheap, it's for ease and convenience. Fumio made this as easy and convenient as you could ask for. In turn, this was definitively a highlight of my daughter's trip.

This review is for a tour we setup last month. My wife and I have snorkeled previously but felt like it would be a great opportunity for some proper instruction. Although snorkeling is pretty straightforward, the little details and tips and tricks offered by Allyn were great. The weather was not ideal, we had wind, strong currents, rain but with Allyn as our guide we had a great time and made the most of our experience. He was great and definitely knew the best spots of Hanauma Bay. He knew all the little nooks and crannies of the reef. And would help the participants of the tour by pointing out where turtles and fish can be spotted. Thanks Allyn for the great experience!

I do not recommend these folks to go snorkeling in Hanauma Bay, Oahu, Hawaii. They charge $59 plus the $7.50 entry fee to the preserve. For that you'll get about one hour of snorkeling. The remaining 2 1/2 hours are chewed up in transportation, picking up snorkeling gear, a quick lesson in how to use the gear, bathroom break, etc.. Also, you must stay with the group and guide so the group can only move as fast as the slowest swimmer. We had someone in our group who was terribly out of shape and needed to go back to shore after 15 minutes so we all had to go back. The beverages and snacks advertised by HBDT consisted of a bottle of water from costco ans bags of chips and cookies. You would be better off renting your own gear. My hotel had a snorkeling outfit that for $18 provided gear and transportation. That would have been a far better value.
