Pet Walk 2023 was held at Kapiolani park this year! There was reserved stalls at Waikiki Shell and off site parking at Waikiki Elementary. The walk itself started around 845am and it was really hot already. They did the fun run first, small dogs, then large dogs. They also held a costume contest for the doggos and brought in different food and pet vendors to the event. This year was also combined with the wiener derby, so my little kiddo got to race after the walk. It was nice to have both events together this year so its one less thing for me to show up to and it was also nice to have all of our friends together in one spot supporting two awesome causes.

Oh my goodness! This was playmate sensory overload for my puppy! There were hundreds of dogs here. I was surprised to see how many people came out for the Pet Walk. My dog had a great time walking the long course, smelling all the other doggies, tasting the free treats. It was a great morning to meet dog lovers, their companions and to support the humane society (where we adopted our doggie!). We also were a part of the humane society ohana picture. Overall, it was a great event for all! Now if only dogs were always allowed at Ala Moana Beach Park....

The pet walk was really enjoyable! So many doggies!!!! It is a little early but that is better because by 9 it was super warm already!! I got there around 7 and met up with some friends who both own shibas so I got to be surrounded by them XD having a pet is like opening doors, so easy to talk to each other, obviously a little bit more if you have the same breed and even easier if they came from the same breeder. Everyone was really nice and curious about each other's pet's personality and experience. I saw lots of dogs I've met as well as IG doggies. We walked the short course which is just around the magic island path. I think the long path goes out towards ala Moana Blvd then snakes back around to magic island. There were all sorts of vendors for both doggy and humans. Through the course there were lots of community dog bowls to make sure they were well hydrated. There were also cups of waters for those walking on two legs. One of the vendors we're giving out nice ice cold towels to put on your dog to cool them off. I'm definitely looking forward to do this every year!

Come one come all dogs! It's that time of year for the Hawaiian Humane Society Petwalk. Donations are collected for the PetWalk prior to the walk. This charity walks helps raise necessary funds so that they can continue to rescue, re-home and reunite Oahu's animals as stated on the KHON News. The Petwalk is actually a short walk around Magic Island or almost around the entire Ala Moana Beach Park if your doggy can handle. There's also a pet costume contest, pet float competition and booths set up. This was my first year going and it was great to see so many different dog breeds. The Petwalk isn't limited to dogs but that's the majority who participate. I did see some birds (cringe...) and cats. I didn't bring my cat but walked my friend's dog so I could participate and he has two dogs. I must say some people are so creative with their costumes for their pets. I saw piñata dogs, taco dogs and even wok dogs. Most of the dogs seemed to enjoy being there to socialize and sniff other dogs. It was super humid, so it was nice to see so many owners prepared with water for their pooches. It's a great event to help the Hawaiian Humane Society and for doggy networking/dating lol.

The petwalk is always one of the highlights of in October. My team and I fundraise for the event every single year. I believe we were third place this year. Event is very organized, we parked at Ala Moana nearby the entrance. They had volunteers giving parking passes and directing people forward to park. If registration hadn't been done prior they had spaces for registration and a lot of tables for check-in. I had a great time doing the pet walk, and visiting all of the different vendors. I even got to play with other dogs that weren't my own. Five Stars. I will go to the petwalk every year for the rest of my life if I can.

PetWalk 2012 was the kitty's MEOW and the dawg's howl! This was my fifth PW and third as a Society employee. 2012 was the most well-attended (hovering around 4,000 people + their pets) in the Hawaiian Humane Society's history. Super-fun booths included a YELP bubble bath for pets (thank you Emi!), Mike McKennas smooch a pooch tent, pet goodie giveaways, costume contest and the second fantastic pet float contest. There were dogs, cats, birds and even a miniature horse. I didn't see the pig or fish this year who typically join the fun but I might have missed them. In addition to being well attended by participants, sponsors and dignitaries, PetWalk raised over $250,000. This money is sorely needed for the humane society to continue its mission. Little know to the general population, the Society provides over 30 programs and service, many of which helps the people on our island. From hospice and children's ward pet visits to teen clubs and anti-bullying curriculum, the humane society does an amazing job for the animals and citizens on our island. This is def the most entertaining walk on Oahu! Five stars to the volunteers, participants and sponsors! Woof-woof! Meow! Eyaieyai-oh!

All in all - it is a charity event and who can go wrong with that? The Humane Society does a lot of wonderful things and I was happy to support them with this walk. The day itself was hot, more than normal it felt - but I realize this is not something the Humane Society can control. So I suppose we can overlook that. There were lots of people with their pets (Mostly dogs, but I did see some people with their cats, bunnies, etc). I didn't expect such a large turn out - but it was absolutely wonderful that so many people came out to support the Humane Society. There were lots of different tents with different groups and companies there, which is fun to look around at. The walk itself offered a short and long option - we opted with the long option. We were very sad though by the time we got to the doggy pools (or where they were suppose to be) they had already shut them down. Sad day. All in all - nice walk and it is always wonderful to support the Humane Society. I wish there was a bit more going on though and I also wish they had kept the puppy pools up!

An added bonus of being on the island for BFFs wedding was the opportunity to walk the Petwalk course with her, future hubby and their dog-child! So many visuals I'll remember for so long...My favorite: I parked at Ala Moana Shopping Center, and as I was standing on the corner waiting for the light to change, surrounded by about 50 dogs and their people, a car stopped at the light and a cute little white dog ran to the window in the back seat filled with curiousity about where all these other dogs were going....Her cute little head barely stuck out the window. I imagined she was thinking, "I'll be there as soon as my people park..." A fun morning for a good cause.
