A Hidden Gem in Downtown! This art installation is a fantastic gem in the heart of downtown. So many different artists showcasing their unique styles and creativity. The atmosphere was inspiring--I even had a great conversation with a houseless man who was simply enjoying the beauty and emotion that art brings. Truly a space where everyone feels welcome and connected through art.

Came to see a play (Titus Andronicus) here. There's a gallery which showcases local artwork, books. The stage area is small and cozy with tiered seating which makes for a more intimate setting. Acoustics are pretty good- no problem at all hearing the actors. There were drinks for sale as well. FYI-there's only 2 bathroom stalls which made for a long line during intermission. Really enjoyed the venue and play!

If you're looking for something cultural and artistic to do while exploring Chinatown, there is always something interesting going on at The Arts at Mark's Garage. As the name implies, this is a parking garage that happens to have ground level storefronts including The Arts. During open hours, you can go inside. Typically there is an art installation in the lobby area, which is bigger than it looks. These change frequently, so there may be something new to see and explore. There is often a gift shop part that goes with the exhibit. There are parts that are always there including a shelf of books, movies, and other media for sale by donation (put the money in the karma jar in the front). The front area as a welcome desk and a bar, which is mostly used during live shows. They have a full theatre area as well that can maybe fit 50 people. We came to a few shows over the years including an interactive Rocky Horror Picture Show and a Star Wars trivia night. Drinks are mostly used for your enjoyment and as a fundraiser. Be sure to check their website and social media for upcoming events and to buy tickets if needed. The back area also has office space for Honolulu art installations and festivals. It's definitely a hub for fun things in the city and worth your time to stop in and support.

Cozy gem of an art gallery tucked on the edge of Chinatown a few blocks mauka of Hotel St. This venue hosts frequent art showings as well as First Friday events. The space contains a cute nook of books for sale az well as a few table to sit at. Loves the new coffee and dessert company who just set up shop.

Came here to watch Rocky Horror on Halloween weekend and had a blast. They really need to do a screening of the Room. Perhaps the finest piece of cinema ever made. Oh hi Mark! Wait, that fits even better. Mark=Mark. Woah.

The Arts at Mark's Garage are now showcasing artwork from Honolulu Waldorf School for February. As soon as you enter the premises there will be a sheet of paper on the counter that has a list of all the artists. Majority of the artwork is not for sale. There are some artwork that would have a price as low as $140 to as high as $500. The artwork featured are acrylic paintings of different creatures of water, land, and air. My favorites are the howling wolves, the grizzly bear, the octopus, the seahorse, and the bird with its wings spread in the air. There are other acrylic paintings of people, plants, and one with eyes in the sky. There are couple head sculptures of a female, a display case that features metal knives and what looked like ivory carvings with string attach to make necklaces. The students of Honolulu Waldorf School are very talented and creative when they did their artwork. Different animals within one animal or fast food icons found on a fish. Besides the artwork in the gallery...Arts at Mark's Garage holds Throwdown Improv Comedy every Wednesdays at 7:30pm. I have attended the improv twice already and each time the actors had me laughing up a storm and practically pissing my pants. The improv actors that I really enjoy watching are Rebecca and Sheldon. Rebecca when she's talking in a British accent and she can even do the Worm which is a breakdance move. Sheldon...a fellow who could speak like he's from India though his nationality is of Asian descent and he also does carpentry on the side. Sheldon built the wooden donation box for Arts at Mark's Garage. Wednesdays would be an awesome night to enjoy the featured artworks and to get some much needed laughs at Arts of Mark's Garage. 62/200

Stopped in here because I've read some interesting things about The Arts at Mark's Garage and I also happened to be in Downtown Honolulu. I didn't go to any plays or performances, but was told they do have some from time to time. As for art content and the exhibit, it's a fairly small place and there's not exactly a whole lot to see overall. Only good thing was that I didn't have to pay to see the exhibits, which rotate every so often.

The Arts at Marks Garage is like a mini-landmark for the art community. When you refer to any of the smaller art galleries around it, most times it's referred to in reference to Mark's Garage. It is one of the best art venues in Hawaii due to its diverse offerings in the arts. Not only can you go every First Friday to experience a new collection, but you can also go to their performance art, theatre, and poetry events throughout the month. Their staff is first-rate and friendly. The flexibility of the space allows for the visual art to coexist in new and exciting ways with the performance art in the next rooms. The facilities are clean and well taken care of. Reminiscent of lab theatre, it is one large space simply set apart with black curtains hanging from the ceiling. Their ample chairs allow for flexible events, and their stage and PA system give artists the chance to express themselves clearly. The bathrooms are clean, which is great for a space that exists in Chinatown. Parking will suck if you go on a First Friday, and just concede that you're most likely going to have to pay for it. Most of the parking lots take only cash, so make sure to have at least $10 on hand. I suggest checking out Re:Verses every last Tuesday of the month, it's a poetry event that includes both strong feature poets as well as an open mic.
