This is a really cool free museum to visit lots of cool displays outlining the different wars and the materials and guns and strategies used during multiple wars very cool rooftop display of a cannon and a helicopter. Staff was really nice in the map and the gift shop was really cool lots of cool stuff in the gift shop to buy. They work off a donations Would definitely recommend visiting.

This was a hidden gem! We had a great time learning and walking along each room and outside and spent a little over an hour here. Parking across the street and the mall will help validate so it's not expensive (I can't even remember what we paid but maybe around $5?) and no admission fee for the museum either so it was awesome. Clean bathrooms, awesome gift shop with some fun shirts and hats, and tons of information that you can read/listen to if you desire. Very grateful for our service men and women, it is a blessing to live in this state! TIPS & TRICKS: * Don't forget to go upstairs to the helicopter, there is also another nice bathroom near the elevator.

Hidden FREE gem in Waikiki! It's located on Kalia Rd in the Fort DeRussey area on the Ewa end of Waikiki. Parking is in the open air lot on Saratoga Rd and is validated for a discounted rate. It's an interesting look into Hawaii's involvement in the past wars. Lots of things to see and there's actual tanks and a helicopter! Plan on spending an hour here. The gift shop has pretty cool things too!

Great place to learn more about the history of the army in Hawaii. On the first floor, the museum is divided into different time periods: Kingdom Period, early 1900s (WW1), WW2 period, Korean War, and Vietnam War. On the second floor they have a room dedicated to decorated soldiers who fought in the different wars, and a room that details the Army Corps of Engineers involvement in Hawaii and environmental efforts. They also have a helicopter on the rooftop too. It is a highly informational museum and I spent a good 2-3 hours reading all the exhibits and walking around. I definitely recommend coming here if you're in the area or putting it in your itinerary (plus it's free admission though donations are appreciated). And they also have a gift shop with fair priced items!

Fort Derussy Beach Park is a major piece of green space at one end of the Waikiki tourist zone. The "U.S. Army Museum of Hawaii" is part of this complex. The structure that houses this museum was originally a shore battery. And if I read between the lines, the only reason this museum exits is because it would have been too difficult to demolish. Inside, on the ground level: There's life-sized diorama showing what an artillery position looked like. There are uniforms, arms and artifacts from different wars. There's information and displays to tell the story of the U.S. Army presence on the Hawaiian Islands through history. These are the kinds of displays you expect. But then you can go to the second floor. One of the rooms on the second level is the "Gallery of Heroes". In this room, there are plaques memorializing military members, who had ties to Hawaii, and were awarded significant military honors (in most cases posthumously). When you see the images of those faces (mostly young), and you read why they received their decoration(s)--it gets to you. Go to the museum's webpage to check the schedule. The US Army Museum of Hawaii is located in walking distance in Waikiki. The museum is free and really well done. Fascinating information and neat displays throughout the building. It's deceivingly large with a majority on the first floor. They do have a 2nd floor to the museum with more displays. This is a museum you could easily spend a few hours in. They also have a great gift shop that has some great hard to find US Army items. Eric was working the register and was a wealth of information. Many thanks to him for his knowledge!!! They have cannons, tanks and a helicopter on display. While you can't claim in or on them, the history is super cool! Definitely a great place to spend some time in the A/C and learn about the local history.

Very informative tour that can easily span over 3 hours. The volunteers are all super nice and we learned a lot about the Vietnam War, Hawaiian warfare, Unit 100, and so on. Cute gift shop with lots of war memorillia and a nice upstairs area with lots about the Mdeal of Honor Recipients.
