I loved it, but when in with low expectations. Honestly, I would give it "5 stars in the category of places to eat at thatched to gas stations", but couldn't give it 5 overall, knowing other standards I have for other taco places. I ordered a pastor burrito and extra large Jamaican hibiscus drink. I sat down to eat so I got free chips and salsa as well. Chips and salsa were 5 stars for me. Was the salsa watery, yes. But that's too be expected. Both were dynamite and went fast. Burrito was good. Meat was seasoned well enough, beans were a lowlight for me. Drink was sweet. Like very sweet. Unfamiliar with it, to be honest, so maybe this is the norm. Drank it, it was good, just sweet. Overall, good portions, good flavor, very fast, better than anything (outside of desserts) you'll get at a gas station. Probably. Definitely check it out.

Not very good. Chicken tacos were very unseasoned diced chicken breast that was very dry. Canned beans. Flavorless rice. Five bucks for a small guacamole. Chicken quesadillas were the same flavorless cubed chicken and I seriously think they were microwaved, based on the weird stiff, yet uncooked feel and flavor or the tortilla. Portions are fairly large and the staff was attentive and masked. Restaurant was clean but the food is less than mediocre.

So there is a new Mexican spot at the outer edge of Blue Island to check out. First Impression: The restaurant replaces the old Burger King, and it is tucked inside of the Shell gas station. Clean open space, digital menu, and staff masked.. Off to a good start!! I grabbed a few items, a steak torta, horchata and scored some free chips and salsa. ($12 total) The Good: Good steak, well flavored, little to no gristle or fat.. beans, lettuce, tomato, sour cream and avocado, round out the torta which was pretty good and worth a second try. Customer service was good, I called ahead to order and I was told 10 minutes, I arrived in 5 and it was ready. Chips were fresh, crispy, and tasty. The Bad: Salsas were not very good.. particularly the free salsa, which I was meant to be more of a pico de gallo, but it was super watery, had no flavor or salt. Thankfully it was free and I didn't pay for it. The salsa verde and salsa roja, meant for my torta, taste pretty good, with a good level of heat, but again a too watery. There is nothing worse than pouring watery salsa on your taco, burrito, torta, and having it run off all over and leaving your tortilla or telera a soggy mess. I give this spot 3 stars for now.. Above average steak torta, good service, priced a bit higher than the other casual Mexican joints in town. I will be back to try a few tacos and re-calibrate my review.. hopefully the salsa is improved next go around, as the staff works out the kinks.

Had a hankering for tacos after watching Taco Chronicles on Netflix, and decided to give this place a try. They were very friendly on the phone and asked how we would like each of the tacos we ordered. Got them home and chowed down. The steak was tasty with cilantro and onions, went well with their green salsa. All the tacos were marked to avoid confusion. My wife and youngest had the piccadillo tacos which were packed with meat. Their tortillas were just the right texture. I will be going back, I hope they stick around.
