Bot Bakery has exceeded my expectations! I ordered a custom cake for my sister who is lactose intolerant and has a gluten sensitivity. Ive only been able to find limited selections in the past and I was so grateful to have found Bot Bakery in time for her birthday! All of their desserts are vegan & gluten free and there is a WIDE variety of options to choose from - even lavender, bell pepper (!) and ginger I ended up ordering a 6" lavender cake with blueberry compote & cream cheese frosting. Oh. My. God. It was phenomenal!! The cake itself was so moist and rich. The lavender was not too subtle and the blueberry compote paired perfectly with it. The cream cheese frosting was a little sweet for me but it was still a great addition to the cake. The decor was beautiful and I could tell that the cake was made with alot of love. The cake was a hit for everyone in my family regardless of their dietary restrictions. Betty was an absolute pleasure to work with. She responded quickly to me via email or text and was accommodating to any changes I had with the delivery time. Although Bot Bakery specializes in vegan and gluten free sweets, this place is somewhere anyone who wants a unique dessert should definitely check out!

Betty is the absolute best! I ordered a custom cake for my girlfriend's birthday and it was amazing!! Truly the best vegan, gluten-free cake I've ever had in my entire life. Fantastic taste and texture for both the chocolate cake and the pink frosting. And the gold flakes on top were a very pleasant surprise. It was easy to place an order and pick up the finished product. I'm also grateful that the cake could be made without any nuts. I highly recommend Bot Bakery to anyone with food allergies and/or dietary restrictions. I will be a customer for life!

This is my favorite gluten free bakery for the adventurous. Every visit will take you on a whirlwind of flavors from around the world. My favorite is the lemon yogurt cake. It is tart and sweet. The shortbread cookies are always filled with something delightful like rose, lemon or lavender. The cupcakes are always creative-the frosting may be rose or lavender flavored topped with mini cucumbers, rose petals or bright red gooseberrries. For example, the cucumber-chocolate cupcake was a pleasant surprise. It had the richness of a brownie, with a refreshing cucumber vibe. Savory items include the mini pizzas and flatbread. Mini pizza may have tomato base with nut spread replacing dairy cheese(which you won't miss). The flatbreads may be made from any combination of local vegetables(swiss chard,), herbs and mushrooms, all locally sourced. The pretzel bread is a new favorite. Try it toasted(if it makes it home). In the cooler months, waffles are a staple. Maple syrup included. The blueberry tart....perfecto-I almost forgot that it was gluten free. It's a close second to the lemon yogurt cake....oh its a toss up. For fellow OSU fans and alumni, in the fall the infamous Buckeye-chocolate covered graham crackers are a treat you won't want to miss. Baking gluten free and vegan is a hard feat and Bot Bakery is up for the challenge. Eggs usually make up for the texture lost gluten free foods, while sugar and butter may cover up aftertaste of nonconventional flours. Bot Bakery manages to make creative, tasty treats without eggs, milk and butter. Yes, some are misses, but overall it's tasty ride for the adventurous.

i had passed by bot bakery a couple times at the logan square and 61st street farmers markets, but never purchased anything. i was pretty skeptical as to why a white woman would open a completely vegan/gluten free bakery in south shore, a predominately low income black neighborhood that's still a food desert. this seemed like such a niche thing that screamed blatant red flags of gentrification and inaccessibility. however, i decided to stop in one day on my way to rainbow beach as i was curious how good their baked goods could be. despite my hesitations, the owner of the bakery, betty, was incredibly kind and very open to discussing more about her role in south shore. from our conversation, it seemed like she was pretty conscious about the implications of her business and was dedicated to contributing back to the community. although i am still a little wary as the majority of her staff was completely white. she seemed genuinely concerned and knowledgable about the history and current conditions of south shore, and i'm grateful that she was willing to talk about it. betty recommended the atomic cake, an iconic southside masterpiece of banana, yellow, and chocolate cake filled with coconut cream custard, bananas, and glazed strawberries and topped with a thick layer of fudge. i couldn't tell the cake was either vegan or gluten free as it was creamy, luxurious, and indulgent in all the right ways. my favorite part of the cake was definitely the thick fudge coating on top as it was subtly sweet and reminded me of a good dark chocolate truffle. since i split the cake with a friend, the slice was pretty reasonably priced at $5 considering the high quality unique ingredients that betty used. when we went up to pay the bill, betty gave us two brownies for free after we talked to her for around thirty minutes. the brownies were delicious, extremely chocolatey, fudgey, and not too sweet. i also bought a yellow shirt from her small selection of second hand clothing, and it's now a staple of mine. i think if i were ever in the area, i would definitely stop by again!

Bot Bakery is the best!! Not only is the owner awesome, she always finds new ways to accommodate her clientele with vegan, gluten-free, and allergen free treats. The customer service is grand and I'm happy to have this place on the south side. The chai vanilla bean cupcakes are my favorite!

Bot Bakery is for those that love sweets but need to stay veganSo Bot Bakery takes care of all your needs in the sweets department. The smoothies are delicious as well. Betty may allow to sample a treat to let you see why you'll buy whatever is in those cases that are sooooooo yummy!!!!!!! Breakfast too just call to check which days it's served. Her assortment of teas are delightful as well. Great southside vegan bakery that serves the community.

Didn't plan to write this review, but after my fiasco with Bot Bakery, I feel compelled to share my poor experience. I placed an order on Sept. 24th, for a Lemon yogurt birthday cake and was waiting for a call from Bot on delivery time confirmation for November 19th. I Never received a call but a text message on Oct, 11th, from the owner stating " I was out of commission for a little. And unfortunately I have to inform you that our Baker's will be out of town when you need your order." Worst yet, I called the owner several times and never got a response. While I was not looking for anything, I at least expected some empathy. A more professional response would have been "is there anything I can do to accommodate you", which is Customer Service 101. This bakery lost me and many other potentially good customers after this experience. I will never use this bakery again and will not recommend it to anyone else.

Best Bakery in town! Don't miss the Atomic cake! Betty has been baking since she was 4 years old - Mom Eileen & Dad Josh, who have owned a few gluten-free businesses, help run the Bakery - just the nicest and friendliest family ever! They constantly switch up their menu to reflect the seasonal changes & use local produce when possible to enrich the flavors, textures, and varieties of their baked goods! My personal favorite is the pizza pies. The waffles were a win today. Always a 10 from me!

I love me some bot bakery! I make my weekly trip to the logan square market for my gluten free treats. The tarts are delish as are any of the options with short bread cookies. The smores shortbread cookie was delicious!! All the cookie options are pretty fabulous. I'm not a huge fan of the more dense items like banana bread b/c it does tend to be a little dry (partly expected of any gluten free desserts). Also, any of their cookies with peanut butter is super delish!! They had donuts one week at the outside market and that was amazing. I've been waiting for it to make a comeback! I think some of the negative reviews are bit harsh. There are definitely couple misses with the more denser items. It's gluten free so you know it will be bit dry to begin with. I've enjoyed amazing gluten free desserts in new york and as good as they are, they will never have the texture of the real thing. I wish people would get that when reviewing gluten free products, especially ones made with healthy ingredients like at Bots and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. The prices are so reasonable! I stick to the tarts, the shortbread cookies, and regular cookie options at Bots, and for me, it's the best gluten free I've found in Chicago. I just hate that i have to wait for the market every sunday to enjoy it! Couple weeks ago, they had gluten free sour dough bread. I loved eating it with my lentil soup. It had a very distinct bitter taste to it, but I thought it was delicious. I hope that makes a come back along with the donuts!

I wonder if "bot" is short for "botched," cus this was the worst thing I have ever eaten. I'm not using that as a hyperbole, and I'm not removing things like worm filled apples or Domino's pizza or the chocolate truffle from Vosges that was completely filled with mold -- this was *the* worst tasting thing that ever entered my mouth. The thing I had -- same gooseberry chocolate basil tart mentioned in other review -- tasted like bad pizza with chocolate, mushed up and put in a shell of pure salt. I took one bite and said "eew. huh?," thinking maybe I got a bad bite, like a rotten berry or something, so I tried another, which, upon realizing that was what it all would taste like, I spit out. My friend tried, also spit it out. Other friend smelled and declined to taste. The 'bakers' went to art school, and I suspected that maybe it was an art project: "let's see how gross of a thing we can make! That will be art!" It's also very overpriced. If they make things that are not this repulsive, I highly suggest they offer free samples.
