Very poor course maintenance and no real clubhouse to check-in or use a non-porta-potty restroom. Very wide open, so wayward shots will end up on another hole. No real thought to the course and no shade. Seems more like it should be a bunch of soccer fields, but the lack of watering even makes that iffy. You get what you pay for; not worth the cheap price here.

Not a tour golf course. But, it will satisfy your golf craving at a moment's notice. A no frills, 9 hole city golf course, that may be the last place where golfers can walk in and play without any or much delay. (Barring a league playing) The grounds keeping is spotty, the fairways flat and wide, and hazards are few; in a few words, a fairly easy course that will lower your handicap and uplift your ego, but could benefit from an update. Columbus park has plenty of free parking, electric golf carts & push/pull carts for rent; what they are missing is full bathroom facilities. They have installed a porta potty at the entrance and between hole 3 and 4, but the park's full toilet, by the parking lot and between 6 and 7 hole, has been closed. It was poorly maintained and in need of remodeling when the Chicago Park District ran the golf course, but now it is closed. The city of Chicago should require, as part of the lease of the golf course, that the bathroom be open and maintained; not only for golf patrons but for the park visitors. This would not happen in a more gentrified area. With all it's shortcomings, Columbus park golf course is worth a visit for an impromptu golf outing. With better facilities this course would be a 4, and with a little tender loving care, maybe even a 5, but, for now it's a 3. For the easy access.

They have really stepped this course quality up. Nice course to play a quick 9 at. The greens and care for the course have really stepped up over the past few years. Love playing a quick nine here. Only minor complaint is no beer lol!

Golf is my summer project. I'm a beginner...and by that I mean I totally suck. After hitting the range a few times I finally took the opportunity to play an actual course, and while Columbus Park is probably pretty crap-tastic to anyone who's half way decent at the sport, I thought it was a pretty good spot for what I was going for. It's super cheap. Like 9 holes for 20 bucks including a cart rental. You don't really need a tee time, it's just first come first serve. Kinda nice when you're learning since a crowded course means more people get to watch you embarrass yourself. As far as the actual course, it's not good. Fairways gobble up balls even when in bounds, the holes almost all overlap each other, and the greens are not kept very well. If you're just learning though, these things don't really matter. Just being able to get out there, hit a few shots, and have a few beers (you're not technically allowed to but it's pretty easy on the course) is the biggest thing for me. They also offer Footgolf which is a new awesome craze I just learned about. Overall...it's not bad, but if you're looking for something fancy this is not it.

I'd give it 3 1/2 stars. I played on a Tuesday morning at 7:30am and we walked on and were not rushed. The greens are very well maintained and there is actual sand in the traps. The fairways were hit and miss. Some were in good condition and others were muddy or barren of grass. This is an urban golf course on the western edge of the city. it is not too long (2674 yards from the blue tees). The fairways were wide with few tree obstructions. The course is very forgiving and is well suited for beginners and less talented players-like me! I paid $19 for 9 holes. I thought it was worth it and will play it again.

Wide open, 9 hole course on west side. Free parking. Getting there is tricky. 290 west traffic is typically bad. You can get off and take jackson all the way but be careful, the neighborhood is rough in a few patches. The course is not difficult to figure out and is flat and wide but it's small so all the holes run into each other. It's a park so there are lots of people that are hanging out in the golf area playing dominos and cards. There are only a handful of carts so be ready to wait until one returns. Will I go back? Probably not. No challenge, no amenities, dry rocky sand, not enough carts, no Gatorade even at the small shop.... This is a hard pass for me but do appreciate the benefit the course brings the neighborhood.

In Dante's inferno, there are seven layers of hell. This golf course would be the crucible in which one must pass before entering eternal damnation. The only thing missing from our hellish experience, was nickelback being played on repeat and a group of angry old people following us around and commenting on our strokes. It is with great satisfaction that I have survived this experience and been graciously given a second chance of life. My friend and I have narrowly avoided death from heatstroke, malaria and toxic ooze that hides amongst the cess pools that riddle the course, on a day that is designated to be a celebration of paternal abilities. Despite the fairways housing the waste of every 3rd world country, we were delighted to see that the greens were in impeccable condition. However, any ball not played directly from the tee box to the green, were lost in the sinkholes that plague the fairway. The virtual scheduling process was simple and easy to use, and having a last minute tee time change, the customer support was gracious and helpful. Unfortunately, our story does not end here. The weather, completely out of control of the golf course, was abrasively hot (see Dante's inferno reference). If you pair this with the fact that there are 4 golf carts available for the entire course and 2 golf bag push carts, you find a recipe for heat stroke and dehydration. My friend and I found ourselves carrying our bags like the weight of our sins and taking a page directly out of Pilgrims Progress. To top things off, it seemed that everyone had the same idea of switching their tee time to 9 am. All 60 golf groups decided, "9 makes more sense" and the course coordinator thought it best to have a 60 man scramble at 9am. Sandwiched between two post-50's women's group, we enjoyed a leisurely 3.5 hour bake in the sky inferno as we crawled through 9 holes. On the plus side, our friendship was strengthened through this crucible, we finished at a course record of 115 strokes without having a stroke, and we have a story to tell for years to come.

As of this writing, this course is $10 for 9 holes (walking). If you come here with appropriate expectations (park district muni course, only one employee on site at all times, limited resources, etc.) you will have a great time. But understand that you get what you pay for, and if you are coming at peak hours you should absolutely expect to get stuck behind a really slow group (I've had to ask to play through a sixsome before). I would say this is a great course to work on your game early in the season. Most holes are wide open so you can hit driver with impunity. There is a short dog-leg left par 5 that is a very fun risk-reward hole. It's reachable in 2 shots for almost anyone assuming you are willing to risk OB on your second shot. Most of the other holes are straight line, tee to green, short par 4s. In short, you get what you pay for and if you live in the area it's a pretty good deal. They also have a small chipping area with flags set up, but no range or practice green.

Unfortunately, I feel I need to write this message to express my disappointment during my recent golf round at Columbus Park on Sunday June 18th. I feel that for the price, the course should be in better condition. I had some friends with me that are not from the Chicago-land area, and was frankly embarrassed that they had to play golf in those conditions for that price (nearly $30 for 9 holes including cart?) . The fairway on some of the holes is (for lack of better words) a disaster. There is a ton of bare areas, standing water (I understood it rained recently, but it wouldn't be like that if there were not bare areas of dirt all over the fairway), and the bunkers were in terrible condition (caked with mud). Also, the "rough" is not maintained at all. I lost at least 4 balls after trying to find them in the tall grass that is right next to the fairway. I hate that I feel I have to write this email, because I love the convenience of the course, and I like to support local courses, but this round was a major disappointment. Please fix the the course up a little bit. It has a lot of potential... I have played on far better maintained courses, for a much cheaper price.
